Feb 16, 2012I have this horrible Compaq laptop. It is a Presario CQ62. I want to smash it.The OS is Windows 7, a major problem in itself which requires other remedies.The issue that randomly started happening one day, and won't stop, is that the left and right arrow keys, home and end, page up/down, and delete don't work. They do work, however, if I disable the wireless network adapter.This is extremely annoying, and cripples the way I use the computer, becuase I use those keys a lot to navigate applications instead of clicking everywhere like a serf.I did try uninstalling both the keyboard and network adapter in control panel, then rebooting so Windows would find them and reinstall the drivers. I thought maybe they would go on another IRQ or some crap.

Nov 16, 2009I lost my Event Viewer, and had to do a repair installation to fix it. Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?

I wanted to create a partition for games at the beggining of the 2nd drive (the left side) as i heard it increased performance to put games in anoher drive and at the beggining of the drive.Will it make difference to make a partition at the beginning or at the end of this drive when it comes to gaming performance?My cousin showed me one game in the same drive installed in the 1st of four partitions of a 500gb 7200rpm (the same i have) performing with 3-5 fps more than that game installed in the 4th partition of that same drive....

In XP, when I selected a folder with say my down arrow key, the contents of the folder would be displayed. That's what I am used to.
However using Seven and navigating with arrow keys the folder contents are not refreshed. They continue to show the previous folder.
I have to touch the space bar to get it to display the files in a folder.

May 13, 2011A week back or so, it was all fine (With occasional Win 7 freezes, which i have never been able to troubleshoot). Then my Win 7 started showing a BSOD (Pretty frequently but randomly). While struggling with this i tried to add/remove RAM sticks (I am running on 4* 2GB = 8 GB in total. Tried to keep one stick (changed slots as well) and remove other three but still the same BSOD). Then i removed NVIDIA graphics card, hard disk & CD rom cables, processes and put everything back again. But to no use.BSOD was not really an issue, as I was thinking of reinstalling Windows and getting rid of that. Before that while Windows would restart (after a BSOD) the arrow keys were not working means: i was not able to choose from 1) boot windows normally 2) run repair etc options.Then i thought of booting the system from a bootable USB drive and run the repair. I pressed F12 to choose one time boot device, it showed the list but arrow keys were not working again. Strangely enough if i enter BIOS setup by pressing DEL, everything seems to work fine. So finally i made the USB drive my first boot device and the system was able to boot from it.I also had one Acronis bootable CD which i used for creating an image of C drive (After fresh Win 7 installation). I thought about restoring that image. I set my first boot device as CD ROM and was able to boot into Acronis. It gives 2 options (the default being boot into Windows). Acronis is a GUI based stuff so i tried to use mouse there. Oh man now mouse was not working and following the default option, the system was booting into Windows.

Dec 15, 2011so recently i put together a comp using my old HDD, CD-DVD Drive, CPU, and PSU. I bought a new Mobo, GPU, Ram, and case. Anyway i was messing with the CMOS because it wouldn't turn on, so i was resetting it(once or twice) and when it turns on now, the computer directs me to the system repair page. It gives me the option to go repair the system or start windows normally, but the arrow keys don't work on this page. They work on the system repair's next page however. So i got out my Win7 disk preparing to reinstall, but after i put it in it directs it to the same page still.

May 12, 2012Been having 9 RootKit issues popping up on our Laptop found by the AVG scan for about a month now. I wanted to just do a complete Restore to get things running normally again. Problem is I have a huge amount of pics on there that are not backed up. Been trying to come up with a quick & easy way to do it.Did a Google search the other day & read that I could use a Bridged USB-USB cable & transfer the pics to our PC. Went to Best Buy to get it & they told me that the Belkin Easy Transfer Cable would do it. Well, I attempted to run the thing last night (I don't think it was even doing what I wanted) and now the laptop will not boot at all.There was an error message (that I didn't write down) on it when I got up this morning & now all I get is a black screen with the arrow cursor on it.

Dec 3, 2009I use the auto scroll feature on my mouse frequently to browse web pages. Before upgrading to win 7 (and ie8) when activated I could scroll using the arrow keys on my keyboard. Since upgrading the arrow keys no longer work. You can only scroll by moving the mouse itself. That function is very important to me as it allowed me to keep my hand off the mouse reducing the aggravation of carpal tunnel syndrome. Any fixes? Aug 30, 2009I upgraded from Vista64 to Windows7 64bit final (not a clean install) on an HP M9300T desktop.
Everything worked fine, until the final restart. System will start, I get the colored thingees, I get the Welcome screen, when it should go to my desktop, I get only a black screen with the arrow in the middle. Even if I boot into safe mode, I still only get the black screen...
I've tried reinstalling x4.
I can hit CRTL+ALT+DEL and get to the task manager, and I can run task, programs go on-line etc.
Ran the Nvidia control applet, the monitor is set to native resolution @ 59hz. Don't know if that is causing a problem, I've changed it but it doesn't seem to stay set.
Other than the DVI output I've tried VGA and HDMI outputs to several different screens from the GS 9800 video card, no change.
I even browsed to the Nvidia site and installed their latest Windows 7 64bit WHQL drivers. I've disconnected everything except the keyboard, monitor and mouse, I've pulled every card out of it except the video card, no change?
