What Is Reason For Spin Up And Heat Increase
Sep 11, 2011
This has just started recently, my computer tends to make a loud sound as though something is spinning incredibly fast. When I feel the top of my case when this happens, it is hotter. When feel the copper tubbing on my CPU fan, it's hotter. When it spins down, everything cools off to the touch. My CPU and PSU fans are both running, it is an older PC.

I recently bought a DIY computer package from Tigerdirect. I put all the parts together, making sure to handle the parts correctly. Once everything was hooked-up, hardware-wise, I tried to install Windows 7 off of a friend's USB drive. It almost worked, but it requested that I insert a disk into the drive, which I couldn't do.I bought a brand new Windows 7 OEM version. Computer still won't boot-up, even though BIOS screen shows that the optical drive is connected. After checking the boot order sequence several times, I figured that the driver must have something wrong with it, so I bought a cheap DVDROM. Both optical drives are made by LG (not sure if relevant) but neither work. In fact, neither one would even spin-up the disk. Message on screen reads: 'Reboot and Select proper boot device, or insert boot media into boot device and press any key.'

I was replacing my heatsink for my cpu. Unfortunately the cpu came up with the heatsink. Before I get out a chisel and hammer, I thought I might first check on the forum for some advice on how to gently separate the cpu from the heatsink. Is there a solvent that I can safely use to disolve the goop without damaging the cpu? Computer is about 5 years old and has never had the heatsink removed before, so the cpu goop that was put on at the factory is probably like glue now.

set up my parents brand new PC running Win 7 64 bit. Basically everything is fine except for 2 things which may be connected?1)Even though I connect to the internet no problem the little blue circle continues to spin in the taskbar as if it's trying to connect.2)I installed the latest version of firefox and that shows a banner along the top of the screen constantly saying something along the lines of updates are being downloaded.I have asimilair setup at home and have not come across this before.I've also installed AVG,Ccleaner and Comodo firewall.

Just a quick one (hopefully). The fans in my PC have been making a lot of racket and I was checking them and cleaning them today and trying to pin point which one was kicking up such a racket.During this I removed my CPU heatsink/fan and gave it a clean, but I wondered if I need to reapply thermal paste? I know when changing you're supposed to put it on, but I thought that as I have removed it, but not changed it, the paste won't be as good a contact between the CPU and the heatsink and won't disperse the heat as well (or maybe hardly at all?)Just checked the temp with only Firefox (and background tasks of course) running, and my Q6600 is running at about 45, 45, 45, 58. The final processor is always the hottest and it says the max it has been was 70.I'm loathe to do to much with the PC (gaming and I've got some videos to transfer to DVD, which always pushes one of the processors) if the lack of paste could damage the processor.

I have a Radeon HD 4500 graphics card that's plugged into the PCI express slot on my motherboard. The heat sink on the graphics card is huge and covers the next PCI slot down completely which I now need. I don't want to buy a new graphics card as the one I have works fine and I can't afford a new one.I can take the heat sink off but I don't want the thing to overheat and blow.

When booting my Dell Latitude E6410, there is a really loud noise coming from the left side of the computer (what i think is the fan?). It's also very hot and the login screen freezes and I am unable to login)I am however able to login in safe mode no problem and there is no noise or excess heat.I thought that maybe the problem was related to my use of the Anti-Virus program Avast, so I uninstalled and used their uninstall utility.I'm copying my list of installed programs below---I allready cleaned out all of the temp files and deleted anything that seemed iffy or not in use.

i want colored heat-sinks to go with my computers theme (black and orange with blue highlights here and there) im looking into an ASRock extreme 4 990fx, but do not like the light blue and dark blue and gold, so to even it up a bit, i want to replace the north bridge and south bridges (if there is a heat sink on it) heatsinks. im thinking i want orange to contrast with the blue and dark brown/black.

About a week ago my PC had restarted on its own when I wasn't there and was stuck on a screen saying "Reboot and Select Proper Boot device or Insert Boot media in Selected Boot device and press any key ". I manually restarted the PC but nothing was shown on the screen. I turned off the PC, disassembled it and took out the BIOS battery and left it there for about 30 minutes. I then put everything back together and booted. The PC started fine but after about one hour it crashed for no reason. Since last week sometimes it crashes or restarts either within minutes from logging into windows either within an hour but never over 2 hours. At first I though it was a power supply issue, I had a Corsair VX550W for the last 4 years and so I replaced it with a brand new Corsair TX650, this has not solved anything though. But since I replaced the PSU the PC now only restarts every 1 hour when I am logged into windows. However, at this moment I have left it open into BIOS and it is working for 2 hours without any restart.

I was planning on buying the upgrade because I need a 64 bit os. I've been told that the installation process was messy and that this was not a good choice specifically for gaming. I would be upgrading from windows xp 32 bit.
Are there any important issues that I should be aware of? Are these warnings true?

I thought I had this problem fixed but I guess not. My computer will randomly turn off (as if I unplugged it) at different times. I have had it done twice in the last hour I tried removing RAM in case that was the problem NO CHANGE. I bought a brand new power supply yesterday because I thought my old one was bad. It is a thermaltake 600 watts, which is more than enough to run this PC. A few days before that I got a new motherboard from the manufacturer. I am literally stumped, the only other thing I can think of is if my power switch is getting stuck. I have no idea how to replace or rewire a switch though besides getting a new case.

To the point- specs of my comp- AMD Phenom II X2 550 (no OC), 4 Gb Memory (Kingston), Geforce GTX 260 (latest drivers), Chieftec 600W, Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit. From time to time, without any specific reason, I've got BSOD's. I realise that often (but not always) they are connected with watching films or playing games (recently for instance Diablo 3). Sometimes BDSOD's occur 5 times during one day and sometimes I have they off my head for 2 weeks. I tested my hardware with Memtest, Orthos, Prime95 and some other programs- can't remember their names- no errors at all. Here are my dumps file.

I have come across an issue lately that is kinda pissing me off. I installed iTunes in order to update my iPhone but for some unknown reason after I installed iTunes many of my executables crash for no reason. When I say crash I mean they won't even start up. The executables that crash are random each time and when I do a system restore it gets fixed till it gets messed up again. It even seems to happen after a clean installation of Windows.

Basically, what seems to be happening is when I'm using a program or something, like, for example, Google Chrome, the window will randomly be deselected or deactivated. It's like someone clicked on another window. Normally, this isn't a huge deal. I just click on the window and keep typing until it happens again (it usually happens two or three times then stops for a while); It's just annoying. But the real issue is when I'm playing a full-screen game, where it's constantly minimized. Not only does it take a good minute or two for my slow computer to pull the window back up, but this also sometimes crashes games, like Team Fortress 2.I haven't been able to play any games for a while.
