Software/Hardware Inventory With Agent?
May 29, 2012recommendations on a hardware/software inventory tool that comes with an agent.I manage a windows network of about 150 machines and would like to be able to install the agent on each machine and then get an overview of all the machines on the network with list all their installed hardware and software. Also we have laptops that leave the network. I would like them to "phone home" once in a while to check in.The reason I'm looking for an agent vs agent-less is I don't want to have to poke holes in the local firewalls or have to configure remote access per machine. Just looking to deploy the agent. Spiceworks almost does all this but doesn't have a stable agent yet as far as I know.

Jun 29, 2012I recently upgraded a MICRO-STAR INT'L CO.,LTD. MS-1034 0341 from XP/SP3, to Windows 7 Ultimate SP1. The laptop has a Digital Camera integrated into it. While the system was XP, the webcam worked. I could open My Computer, and if the camera was turned on, it showed in the inventory of devices. Now, with the new and better Windows 7 ULTIMATE, , as the camera says it is connected, but it isn't in the "Computer" inventory, and that is where you really turn the thing on. I have downloaded drivers out the ying-yang and get the same result each time.

When feel the copper tubbing on my CPU fan, it's hotter. When it spins down, everything cools off to the touch. My CPU and PSU fans are both running, it is an older PC.

Feb 1, 2013I recently bought a DIY computer package from Tigerdirect. I put all the parts together, making sure to handle the parts correctly. Once everything was hooked-up, hardware-wise, I tried to install Windows 7 off of a friend's USB drive. It almost worked, but it requested that I insert a disk into the drive, which I couldn't do.I bought a brand new Windows 7 OEM version. Computer still won't boot-up, even though BIOS screen shows that the optical drive is connected. After checking the boot order sequence several times, I figured that the driver must have something wrong with it, so I bought a cheap DVDROM. Both optical drives are made by LG (not sure if relevant) but neither work. In fact, neither one would even spin-up the disk. Message on screen reads: 'Reboot and Select proper boot device, or insert boot media into boot device and press any key.'

I tried giving permission so i can change it but it wont give me permission to give permission to change. when i change it says some program still running it but of course nothing is running it and ontop of all that I don't even know how or what to change.

It can only show PROGRAMS you would like to find. Ex. I would like to find techguy.doc. I knew the file is in my system but I cannot search it in Start Menu Search Panel for quick access. It says No Items match your search. In contrast, in my desktop (OS is Windows 7 Ultimate) it can find specific file ( pictures, music, doc etc) and also the programs. I would just like to know if it depends on the Windows Edition.

Apr 10, 2011ive been backing up data on my computer only to open up recycle bin the other day and find most of the files missing. I was very confused. Then i realised i had recently deleted 2 or 3 large files in size of 2 or more gb and that the recycle bins capacity is 4gb Has recycle bin deleted my older items because there wasn't enough space? I need to find or restore the old files. Im guessing the recycle bin dir in c: has now been modified showing the current status. Can i recover any older recycle bin dir or any files which list the files that were in recycle bin before is was modified and deleted old files? I have tried free undelete programs but they all only show the current recycle bin contents, i need to find the old contents. I also mucked around with some security settings of recycle bin and corrupted it. I had to empty it. Does this mean a new recycle bin file has been made? How can i restore the old contents.

Dec 22, 2010FI have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit computer with 6 GB of DDR2 and an Intel Core Quad processor. My problem started when the beta for Office 2010 came out. My computer came pre-installed with Office 2007 so I wanted to try the new and it wouldn't install. I didn't really care too much because I don't use Word or anything too much. But when I tried to reinstall Office 2007 I got the same error. Error 1935. Over a period of three days I spent with Microsoft Tech to just lead me to call Gateway about the problem. I figured it was a Microsoft Office thing, but recently, I tried to install Microsoft C++ and something else that another program relied on. Another error. And just today, I tried to update my Anti-Virus and I got this, "Installation of the Microsoft Runtime Redistributable Kit has failed.The probable cause is a Windows update running in parallel." So I updated my computer, with 2 unnecessary updates, and restarted. Same error.
So I made a repair disk and ran it, still the same problem. I've looked all over the web fornothing credible has worked. I have already deleted and un installed everything off my computer that isn't necessary for it to work. I just want to type up my essay with the comfort of not having to try to format things in WordPad.
List Of Pinned Items?

Mar 18, 2012I decided to run ccleaner again and make a virus scan. Some viruses were found and a lot of crap was deleted with ccleaner, I also disabled some things in the boot menu with ccleaner (or what is it called?). After that I turned my pc off but first Windows had to do some update. The next time I started my pc the taskbar and desktop were gone, the only thing that is there when it starts is a window with the drives etc.
- ctrl-alt-delete -> run -> explorer.exe -> normally the taskbar should show up but it opens another window with the drives
- replaced the explorer.exe file, nothing changed
- installed another anti-virus program, deleted some malware
- some other things I already forgot
EDIT: Forgot to mention, if I go to the control panel and click on "Taskbar and start menu" nothing happens, it doesn't open any window. Also, if I set a background and reboot the pc again, the background will be gone.

Jun 14, 2012The problem that I'm having is that my PC isn't shutting down. When I press the option, the PC goes into the shutting down screen and hangs there indefinitely. I have tried to leave it there for many periods of time but it still never shuts down. The only way to shut down the PC would be to force it through the Power button and through the Reset button. Another issue is that my PC doesn't detect new USB items, like a flash drive that is connected after the PC is turned on and can only detect USB items when they are plugged in when the PC is turned on.
I have booted into Safe Mode and both issues are not apparent. New USB items are detected and I can shutdown or restart the computer. It seems to me that the problem may be memory related but I ran a dskchk and no problems were encountered. Another thing that may have caused the issues may have been something with the registry.
