Somewhere along the way, the handler for Windows Media Player disappeared from the DVD Autoplay list. Is there a simple reg fix to put it back? I found one for Media Center, but not WMP.

If it were just a shorcut to an exe or something I would just copy and past link, but I'm needing to create a shortcut for 'RunDll32 DwmApi #105'. But I can't seem to do that. I haven't made any changes to my system, so there should be no problems.
View 9 Replies View Relatedfile association in that I can't get to choose any default program from a list. After clicking "Open with" I choose the option of; "Choose default" and get this with everything I try to choose a default for;
"The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action, please install a program or, if one is installed, create an association in the default program control panel"
I like to use "FYzip" to open all types of zip files/folders as it works well with my expectations but I can't get it or even a photograph to have a default opening program. I have no problem in opening any format of photographs but that's not the issue. I end up doing a blasted Re-Format of my whole Windows 7 home addition?
i have windows xp as my primary boot windows and windows 7 as my secoundary windows ,xp is on c drive and 7 is on d drive my windows xp create a problem so i install a fresh a copy of xp now my xp is working properly but dual boot option is missing that shown on startup

A further few days back, I reinstalled my bluetooth software as its tray icon was missing I have reinstalled bluetooth software but still the "Sent to -> Bluetooth" option is missing and I couldn't find the option to enable it.I am unable to send files via bluetooth unless connected to PC Suite.

I am missing the mail recipient option in the sub menu off Send To. I have checked that it is in the send to folder and it is in the shell. The other user on the computer can do this. So I copied that icon and replaced the one that was not working. Same result. I have checked the program defaults. I am using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to run a complete system recovery (factory restore) on Windows 7 using a recovery partition. Last time I ran the recovery, I ended up having a lot of problems with system programs not being installed correctly, and with the system administrator account. Now, when I reboot and use the F8 option to bring up the boot options, I do not have an option to "Repair your computer" as I had before. I also tried rstrui.exe through the command prompt, but it only tells me that "No restore points have been created on your computer's drive. To create a restore point open System Protection."
I also checked my drives through DISKPART to make sure there were no problems with the recovery partition, but it is showing up normal. On the Windows knowledge database it said that if the system recovery options are missing, then the system is not installed with the options or they were disabled by the network administrator. Given that I had no problems accessing these the last time I ran the recovery, I'm assuming something happened with the account. I am set up with 1 user in the system, which is the administrator.
1) Re-enabling the options so that I can access the "Repair your computer" options on the boot menu.
2) Run the system recovery options without having to get into the bootup menu.
I've had this issue for a long time and it is that the volume icon wont show up at the bottom right of my screen for my pc, i go to activate it from control panel and its greyed out. I have tried other methods like restarting explorer or going into regedit and doing a bunch of stuff.

View 0 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine installed VMware for me and since then autorun hasn't worked. Autoplay in general is fine, but it doesn't worked for DVD software (like games etc). I have changed the settings for 'software and games' in the autoplay settings, to no avail. I have also changed vmware settings to allow autorun. Still doesn't work. Some suggest changing NoDriveTypeAutoRun in the registries but I don't see it in the supposed place, only NoDrives. For further clarification, Autoplay works but I put, say, a game dvd it asks me if I want play it with Windows Media Player instead of proper autorun.

I get a message that tells me that I don't have a program installed as default when opening a dvd, same with audio discs but I have media player. I can still explore and install programs and have found i can open DVDs with Power DVD but I would like to find out why DVDs and CDs just don't open. I have autoplay ticked in default autoplay settings and have attached the message I get when I try to open from my computer.

The ext hdd isn't listed under devices in the auto play (where u can pick settings for individual devices) which I found out here : What would keep a device from appearing under "Devices" in AutoPlay?
If you have connected a volume device to your computer (for example, a USB flash drive or external hard drive), that device will not appear in the Devices section of AutoPlay. AutoPlay only lists non-volume devices (for example, some digital cameras, video cameras, and phones).
This is because these devices don't use a standard file system and AutoPlay cannot browse the contents of these devices to see what types of files they contain. So is there a clever or obvious way I'm not thinking of to disable auto play for a external hard drive that is constantly connected to the PC?
Yesterday I updated my and my wife's iPhones to 5.01 -- now that is a nightmare story in itself. I could never get it to work on my PC -- simply would not install the mobile device drivers no matter what I tried. I was able to update both phones on another Windows 7 PC we have.Now, when the original PC detects my iPhone and pops up autoplay it has the device name for my wife's phone. The phone itself shows that it is configured with the correct name.Where does Windows 7 pull the device name from? It has the wrong name in the device properties General tab but even though I can select the field and select the text in it I cannot change it.

I often rip movies from Netflix onto DVD+RW's and watch them later. However, when I put in the DVD+RW to erase it, I'm always dealing with Media Center starting up and trying to playback the movie. Obviously have same problem when I put in movie to rip, it wants to autoplay it, and I just want to use my dvd ripping tool of choice.
I have a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my PC and there are times that when I reboot my computer or turn it on from an off state I get the Autoplay prompt for my External HDD. This occurrence is totally random and it doesn't happen sometimes. This means if an app is installed and tries to take control of an autoplay event, it gets an error code and the setting remains unchanged. If, however, I use the control panel to change a setting then it is allowed and the change goes through.

Every time I stick a DVD (game/movie) into the drive it comes up with an autoplay box with 1 option, to open the folder to view files. In Explorer the DVD shows up just as a generic DVD - basically as if it were just a blank disc for burning. If I 'explore' the disc there are no playable files, just an empty folder and a notepad document. I can't play the DVD in WMP, or any other player and can't start a game from the disc. This happened once before after burning a CD, the system just wouldn't recognise DVDs. It sorted itself out pretty quickly last time, this time, again after burning a CD, I can't get it to work.

My system perf is slow. I installed few softwares. I have deselected most of the startup services and programs from msconfig. Eventhough my system bootup time is slow, and whenever i open mycomputer it taking time to load.
I have decided to install Windows 7 Enterprise Edition x64 by formatting my C drive. But there is no option while i do clean install.
I just got a computer for free, a Dell Studio 1555. When I got it, it would try to boot, then come to a screen that said that bootmgr.exe was missing. Sometimes I got a message that said something like mpio.sys was corrupted or missing. I have a Win 7 disk, so I put it in and tried to repair the installation. Each time I ran it, it said that the repair had failed. I tried to reinstall windows 7, and It made it to the first restart in the process. It showed the "Starting Windows" screen, but the colors of the windows logo never appeared, then I got the missing bootmgr screen. I decided to install Ubuntu and see if that worked, and it did (I installed it alongside the Windows installation). It was Ubuntu 10.04. I thought, "OK, so i'll just use this as a Linux machine"...and I decided to go back and reinstall so that I could use the entire hard drive. It never worked correctly again. Each subsequent time that I installed Ubuntu, I was told something along the lines of "Gnome Power Manager did not install correctly" and got a slow and choppy Ubuntu installation.Tried to install 11.10, and it failed completely. I opened the Ubuntu live from my usb drive, and opened the disk utility. I now cannot format, reformat, partition, or delete partitions on the drive. Is all of this just a case of a hard drive on its last legs, or is there something else going on here?

I can't go onto Control Panel It say's " This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" I AM THE ADMIN.. I am the only account too. 2. My Task bar is missing, When i go ctrl-alt-del i see no option to open up my task bar. [FIXED] 3.
