WIn 7 Will No Longer Boot

Jun 23, 2009

Today I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Build 7232 because it was newer and also because Build 7077 would no longer boot. I have reinstalled 7077 and reinstalled 7232 twice. Windows works okay for a while and then will freeze and I will have to power off the PC and restart. But when I try to turn it back on it hangs at the Starting Windows screen. My other desktops have no troubles with Windows 7 at any build. I can start in Safe Mode but nothing else. Thanks in advance.

PS I had just finished installing Adobe CS4 software and was using Google Chrome when it froze. BD 09 is my antivirus with firewall disabled, firewall is Windows Firewall. And all are x64 installations.

Windows 7 Will No Longer Boot - Asking For Installation CD

Dec 6, 2011

Have dual boot; XP and 7. 7 will no longer boot, asking for the installation CD. I don't have an installation CD, only the one that puts everything back as it was when purchased. Can I get a boot file that will boot from USB? Or since I can see the 7 drive from XP, could I add a file to Win7? I checked on EasyBCD that is supposed to work, but I' use RollBack and it won't work with RollBack installed. I'm afraid to uninstall RollBack since it has saved me so many times in the past.

Laptop No Longer Boot After Repair

I recently had to replace my motherboard when a power failure killed my HP Compaq nx9420, running Windows 7. When the repair was complete, the laptop would no longer boot to Windows on the internal HDD. Instead it boots to startup repair. Startup repair fails with the message, "Cannot repair this computer automatically".

2 Windows 7 PCs Suddenly No Longer Boot

Jul 18, 2009

I've got 5 PCs here.. 2x Win 7 x64 v7100, 1x Vista x32, 2x XP Pro x32. Strangely, within the past 24 hours both of my Windows 7 PCs have stopped booting. They turn on, hard drives spin, fans come on. There is no beep, and no signal to the peripherals, including keyboard, mouse, monitor. Identical problems on both systems.

Specs on Windows 7 System 1 (2 years old):

Motherboard Asus P5N32-E SLI
CPU Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 Quad-Core 3.0GHz
Ram 4 x OCZ DDR2-800 Reaper 2048MB
Video Card 2 x Asus GeForce 8800 Ultra 768MB
Power Supply Silverstone ST1000 1000W

Specs on Windows 7 System 2 (1 month old):

Motherboard Asus P5Q-EM
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Quad-Core 3.0GHz 95W
Ram 4 x Kingston ValueRAM DDR2-800 2048MB
Video Card Asus GeForce 9600GT 512MB Silent
Power Supply Corsair VX 450W Power Supply

I suppose it's possible that both motherboards just coincidentally failed in the same day but that seems pretty unlikely. They are both ASUS. On System 2, the second system to fail, I did notice that the computer had been on with the screen saver up for a little while. Someone had been using it only about 20 minutes earlier. I thought it'd entered power saving mode and turned off the screen but when I went to bring it back up, I couldn't. I noticed that the light on the front of the box was flashing. I tried powering off by holding down the power button, then powering back up but had no luck. I also tried turning it off at the power supply and unplugging it for a few minutes but that didn't help either.

Pc Takes Longer To Restart Then To Boot?

Jul 6, 2011

Let me explain, I just noticed that when I restart my pc, the restart precess seems to hang at the motherboard screen for more then 3 times the time it does when I boot the pc from being switched off(a good 15-20 seconds at Mobo screen on restart).

The problem is I think it only started doing this after I accidentally uninstalled a hard drive driver and the pc shut down(and I think restarted). The hard drive seems fine now, the driver was reinstalled, I'm just a little concerned I could have caused a problem, or is this normal?

So the question is simple, Is it normal for a pc to take longer(at least 3 times) at the motherboard screen when you restart then when you boot up from an off position. If the answer is no then I suspect it could be something I've done to it, as I never noticed it taking that long before.

My basic pc spec is:

i5 2500
assus h67
8gb ram
560ti

I just checked, when I start up the pc normally it stays on motherboard screen for 6 seconds, when I restart it stays on the screen for 24 seconds.

Windows 7 X64 Will No Longer Boot Properly After Innstalling SP1

Jul 14, 2012

my 3 day old Win7 Ultimate innstallation on my 3 day old computer just crashed after trying(or maybe succeding) to innstall Service Pack 1.

This is how the screen looks when I try booting. [URL]

I have tried all safety modes, last known good config. Debugging mode. The Windows 7 DVD(tells me the chosen OS version can not be repaired), none of these options worked. What else can I try?

Could this be the punishment for not getting genuine windows and using a loader? Can it be saved?

Can't Use OE Any Longer

Nov 8, 2011

I'm currently using outlook express on XP. It starts up and checks email in less than a second. It uses hardly any system resources. I like this.I'm getting a new laptop with W7---can't use OE any longer (not compatible). So which client should I use? I don't care about extra functionality, fancy graphics or other bloat. Just speed in starting up and checking email (I heard windows live/thunderbird mail are slow and a significant drain on resources)I really don't like the idea that I'm upgrading to a MUCH faster PC only to end up with a slower email experience.

IE 8 (32 Bit) No Longer Working

Also, the Windows update choice on my menu does not run (Does that require the 32 bit version?). When I try to connect to the update via its website, it always refers me back to the start menu, so no help. Is there some registry key that got turned off?

This is very annoying it means i have to shut down the maching everytime i am not using it. I have to hold down the power button to force a shutdown and then restart.

Everything Takes Longer To Start Up?

Apr 26, 2011

I've been having a problem for a while that everything is taking longer to load upMy computer startup time has drastically increased, from around 20 seconds (to login screen) to around 40 seconds. Additionally, individual programs take longer to load, too. Where Chrome used to be a nearly instantaneous load, I now have to wait around 10 seconds for it to start up and become responsive. However, after opening each of the programs for the first time (after each computer startup), closing the program and reopening it will result in a normal load time. Only the startup times have been affected; the actual performance is fine.I've already run virus scans (I have Norton Security Suite), chkdsks, tinkered with msconfig, and many others, just short of reinstalling Windows. I'm not too sure what to do now, as a re-installation would take quite a bit of time to create a backup[CODE]

Windows 7 No Longer Genuine?

Microsoft Security Essentials is no longer running, my desktop background has turned black and in the bottom right hand corner of my screen there is a message saying

-"Windows 7
-Build 7600
-This Copy of Windows is not genuine"

As far as I can tell my copy of Windows 7 is genuine. It came with a sealed COA, a proof of License label and holographic discs.

I do have "store recently opened programs" checked as well as the second option "store and display recently opened... etc"this seems not to have any effect.I tried a system restore prior to the update, no change.how to restore this function?

Desktop No Longer Shuts Down?

Oct 16, 2011

This started, that I noticed, maybe four weeks ago. I select shutdown from the start menu. Desktop starts closing down. Get the waiting for programs screen. Monitor blacks out, All fans stop. Silence.

Sounds good, unless I move the mouse, then everything starts up again. It hasn't actually shutdown, it's more like sleep mode.

The only ways to shut down properly is to hold the start button down on the box or send to sleep and mains power off (on the PSU). To be honest, neither is a preferred way I like to shut down my PC. Apart from anything else I get a lot of "didn't shut down properly" screens with either method, plus I give the Step-Daughter major ear grief for using the power off button to shut down!

My Computer No Longer Exists

May 31, 2009

I recently installed a problem called EnhanceMySe7en and tried a few tweaks however things didn't really turn out as I had planned.

I made a system restore point before I made the changes, but then when I tried to restore it back, it says there were no points available ... Thats wierd coz I've made 3 restore points over the last 3 days as I've been changing stuff.

Anyways I would love it if anyone knows a possible fix for the problems I've encounterd.

1) The "my computer" link has dissapeared from the start menu (no option to re-add in the startmenu properties)

2) When I open "my computer" shorcut from rocketdock I get no drives showing up

3) Option to add my computer icon to desktop greyed out

4) "My computer" is no longer in the left pane of explorer (libraries and network etc are still there). It means I can't browse to my files. I can only if it lets me type in an address like C:windows etc... but in some browse dialogs I'm locked out completely

5) Another unrelated issue in my shutdown menu. I have logoff, sleep, hibernate, restart options in my shutdown menu, but no shutdown

I suspect with the My Computer issue that its deleted some registry keys pointing to it... please let me know if you have any ideas how to fix it.

Win 7 No Longer Boots After Removal Of XP

Nov 1, 2009

I did have the following setup, on a single drive, two partitions:

345GB: Windows XP (installed first)
120GB: Windows 7

I've made a slight mistake – I've deleted the partition which hosted the MBR for my dual boot setup.
Basically, I have a single hard drive split into two partitions. I thought that I was thoroughly satisfied with Windows 7, so I decided to delete the partition which XP was sitting on. Little did I realise/remember at the time, but the XP partition held all the boot information, thus rendering my newly formed single partition unbootable. I booted GParted to ensure that my partition was intact, and it showed the following:

/dev/sda1 Extended 465GB LBA
/dev/sda5 NTFS 465GB Boot
(I manually flagged /dev/sda5 as 'boot')

This all appeared normal to me, so I put my Windows 7 disc in and attempted the various repair options. In my experience (with XP), FIXMBR from the command prompt usually fixes the issue, in this situation it hasn't. I've also tried 'BootRec.exe /fixmbr' & 'BootRec.exe /fixboot'. None of which seem to work.

My last attempt at fixing this was using the 'Startup repair' option on the Windows 7 disc. This hasn't worked either.

Can someone perhaps kindly offer me a solution? I'd rather not reinstall Windows.

Windows 7 - XP Can No Longer See/share

Nov 10, 2011

We have been using a Windows 7 machine and an XP machine for some time now - they are using the same workgroup name, and were sharing files using the Public folder on Windows 7, no problems. The XP could also connect to the printer, which is hardwired to the Windows 7.

They are both using wifi in our building. The wifi, which is owned by the landlord, used to be called Ourwifi. A couple weeks ago, the power went out in our building and then there was a problem with the wifi and the internet/cable company came out and changed it. It is now reconfigured as Ourwifi2. It is password protected.

Since that change, both the Windows 7 and XP computers are able to access the wifi and use the internet, but now they cannot share files. As far as I know, nothing on either of the computers settings had changed.

The Windows 7 computer was turned OFF when the power went out; the XP most likely was ON (because that user tends to leave it on all the time). Since I've been trying to reconnect them, I may have changed something by accident.

So here are the settings in the Windows 7:Network and Sharing - Under advanced sharing settings, password protection sharing is OFF under "home or work" as well as under "public." Workgroup is listed as the same one as the XP computer (ourwkgrp). In Windows 7, under active networks, Ourwifi2 is listed as a"work network" Windows 7 has Norton running; I'm unsure if it has had any auto-updates that may have changed accessiblity settings. I can't find in the Norton settings how to add all those TCP and UDP numbers suggested in a post elsewhere that might help it find the XP machine. On the XP machine -- XP can see (or thinks it sees) the Windows 7 computer over the wifi -- if I look at "view workgroup computers" in the XP -- Windows 7 shows up, but if I attempt to connect, I get a message saying it is an invalid path, cannot be viewed over the network.

XP cannot print to the printer connect to Windows 7. It can't see the printer b/c I can't expand the Windows 7 folders that show up under "view workgroup computers."

how to access anything if you send "change this to on," etc.

No Longer Seeing XP Computers On Network

Nov 26, 2011

So, I know this topic has been covered many many times, but this is slightly different.

I had all the computers on the network, a mix of XP SP3, vista and 7 pro of the 32 and b4bit flavors networked and working fine. All of a sudden, i can no longer see the xp computers from the Windows 7, and vice versa. So i thought maybe there was an update that changed the node type (it's happened before on a Windows 7 home comp in the network). All the nodes are hybrid, all still have file sharing and network discovery enabled and my LAN manager is still set to send lm&ntlm.

What's strange is that I can type in the computer name into the address bar and access it fine. But they won't show up on the network map. So, while for a techies like us, who runs IT knows how the users like to have everything the way it was...how to get all the computers back on the network map.
