I've been having a problem for a while that everything is taking longer to load upMy computer startup time has drastically increased, from around 20 seconds (to login screen) to around 40 seconds. Additionally, individual programs take longer to load, too. Where Chrome used to be a nearly instantaneous load, I now have to wait around 10 seconds for it to start up and become responsive. However, after opening each of the programs for the first time (after each computer startup), closing the program and reopening it will result in a normal load time. Only the startup times have been affected; the actual performance is fine.I've already run virus scans (I have Norton Security Suite), chkdsks, tinkered with msconfig, and many others, just short of reinstalling Windows. I'm not too sure what to do now, as a re-installation would take quite a bit of time to create a backup[CODE]
Let me explain, I just noticed that when I restart my pc, the restart precess seems to hang at the motherboard screen for more then 3 times the time it does when I boot the pc from being switched off(a good 15-20 seconds at Mobo screen on restart).
The problem is I think it only started doing this after I accidentally uninstalled a hard drive driver and the pc shut down(and I think restarted). The hard drive seems fine now, the driver was reinstalled, I'm just a little concerned I could have caused a problem, or is this normal?
So the question is simple, Is it normal for a pc to take longer(at least 3 times) at the motherboard screen when you restart then when you boot up from an off position. If the answer is no then I suspect it could be something I've done to it, as I never noticed it taking that long before.
My basic pc spec is:
i5 2500 assus h67 8gb ram 560ti
I just checked, when I start up the pc normally it stays on motherboard screen for 6 seconds, when I restart it stays on the screen for 24 seconds.
AFter windows finally boots up, everything works fine except IE v9 that also takes forever to load a page and strangely, most of the dropdown menu items are grayed out. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but the same symptoms occur. I have reset to defaults and the long load time still occurs. If I try to maximize the IE window, it hangs and never frees. Also, if I try to enter a new url in a separate tab, IE freezes and never releases and takes a while to close.
This is on Win 7 Home Premium, SP1 64-bit with IE 9.
I am running Firefox 6.0.2 and when I run it for the first time after switching on or a reboot it take very long to start, over 30 seconds. Why is this? Can it be fixed?
I can check Windows 7 64 bit to see what the problem is? I have Opera 12 installed on 2 other computers (one with Windows 7 64 bit and the other w/XP) and the browser opens within seconds. The delay is only happening on the wife's computer. I changed no settings on Opera when I installed the upgrade to 12 so I am guessing it is the PC that is causing the painful delay. I un-installed it twice, installed it once to her SSD and then again on her HDD and there was no change in the startup delay-it is driving me crazy.
It all started with having hard time (extremely slow opening links on utube and internet and now skype is terrible too -- my friends see and hear me perfectly but all i get is blurry picture and scratchy sound ?
I have an HP Z800 Workstation with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. When I start the computer it seems to be ready in somewhere under a minute after the desktop comes on, meaning there are no spinning circles the mouse moves smoothly etc. However if I try to launch one of the programs in the taskbar, Firefox, Thunderbird, it takes at least seven to ten minutes for the program to come on and be ready. At this point if I click Start>All Programs it is completely empty with no icons or folders at all in there and will be for about the same amount of time. The Start menu freezes open like that and all I can do is to wait. And wait I do because it makes it much worse if I hold in the power button and turn the computer off because then I can usually not go past that black screen that comes on for a brief second before it goes on the desktop. I have very few things that are active in msconfig so I have no idea what's going on and why the computer takes so long to start.
My mouse takes a full minute to be usable after boot. the first time this happened I did a system restore and it fixed it. It came back, I did another restore, it came back again I did it 3 more times like this. I am current on all updates. I am running a asus px658d-e board. All the drivers are up to date. I am running the most recent bios, I am using a usb keyboard and mouse. I have tried booting with the mouse in each usb port with no improvement. I deleted the mouse in the device manager and rebooted. it reinstalled the driver and the problem did not improve. I am running win 7 pro 64bit.
I got a sony vaio windows 7 64bit home premium. The problem is, pc too slow to start up. It takes about 15 to 20 mins or more.. and it's always have "not responding" in the upper left corner of the monitor.. I can't use my ms word to do some typing job co'z its pauses 5secs every time.
I have been running Win7 64-bit for 2 years. My boot drive is an Intel SSD. Win7 used to load very quickly. It would come up with the Windows logo and quickly flick to the login screen. Boot Performance tracked in Event Viewer - Application and Services - Microsoft - Windows - Diagnostics Performance, perational would generally report 45 seconds or so. Recently, for no reason I can yet discern, that has jumped to 218 seconds. I have looked for 101 Event IDs (application boot performance), there are a few listed, but usually with very small footprints (degradation of 300 ms). Nothing which explains the 3 additional minutes.When the OS boot now, it comes up to the Windows splash screen, and as the 4 colours are coming together, it hangs. At first I thought there was something seriously wrong, so I restarted via the power switch, and ran Startup Repair. It ran, but boot was the same. After a few more power button restarts, thinking I had a very serious problem, I sat there stumped and..... it eventually booted! The 4 colours eventually started moving again, and the system booted. That is what I experience every time now. There is roughly a 3 min pause during the boot sequence, then it proceeds as normal.Things I have tried, Updated to latest Nvidia chipset and GPU drivers.Have almost nothing in Startup when Running MSConfig,Ran Intel's SSD tool. Reports everything A-OK. Made Boot Sequence "Hard Drive" only so it doesn't search for CD drive. Ran Windows Update to ensure all latest critical patches installed (for all I know, this caused it).
Now Windows 7 does not start from the new drive, I get "a disk read error occurred".Then I bootet from a Windows 7 rescue CD and used these commands without success:bootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootI even recovered the BCD with these commands:Bcdedit /export C:BCD_BackupBootrec /rebuildbcdI have no clue what else I could do now. The partition is marked active. The Windows 7 partition is readable from within Linux, I can see everything there. I ran chkdsk from the rescue CD with no success.

Acer PC with w/7 working fine until one day it starts all "do not shut off computer, configuring windows etc." It is ok once in a whilebut everytime I boot the computer I go through the same routine and, as a result,this idiotic message is cramping my style.
After pressing the shortcut "sleep" key on my keyboard. My monitor will turn off immediately whereas the CPU will take awhile to sleep.Before i reformat my computer, my CPU will off immediately together with the screen.
my Toshiba laptop takes more than 3 mins to start up even after i upgraded to 6 GB of DDR 3 RAM .. My processor is Core i3 330M 2.1 Ghz and OS win 7 64 bit.
I'm not sure if this is the ISO (doubt it) or my hardware (more likely).

Problem: Win7 setup (install) -> first restart -> bios finished -> blank/black screen for 10 minutes (or so)... then win7 loads and resumes fine. This 10-min delay happens every time win7 restarts. Note that this happens even initial setup/install, no other programs installed yet.
Previous OS: Windows XP Pro 32bit, SP2. No problem with booting.
I have tried unplugging one monitor, switching, using the onboard ... all with same result.
Can anyone help me, I'm desperate -- about to ditch win7 and go back to XP pro.
when the system boots, everything goes smooth and fast, untill the welcome screen show up, it takes like 25 seconds!
I've done everything, disabled some of the unnecessary startup progs in the msconfig, but what really annoys me is that on my older PC ( dual core and a 3gb of ram ) it wasn't that bad, it used to take like 3~4 seconds on the welcome screen....
"idle" but it's even after I boot up.So RIGHT after I boot up I check the task manager to see how much RAM is being used, and it's ALMOST ALWAYS 45% or more (I have 3 GB of RAM in total, so this is using around 1.35-1.5 GB of RAM right after boot-up).I have already gone into my services thing and disabled all the things that I believed I wouldn't need or set it to manual, I have already deleted programs and files that I do not need, and I have blocked programs that I don't need from starting at boot.But even still, it uses that much RAM. Just got a laptop, running Win 7 Home Premium, back from Geek Squad, now it takes a LONG time to load up when booting. It takes well over 5 minutes before you can do anything. other than taking it back to Best Buy?
Everything was fine with my pc for about 6 months now since I did a fresh install on a ssd. Today everything was working great, I never install windows 7 updates and use my own nod32 anti virus. I have windows 7 64x
I shutdown the computer and everything was fine. When I tried starting the computer again it was stuck on the windows logo with starting windows words. The animation of the flag was animated and not frozen. My post message submitted at a regular timeframe. I did do windows restore and still takes about 30 min for windows to start. Tried windows repair, took 30 min to even get into it, and startup repair says there is nothing wrong. Safe mode gets stuck too and won't start up.
I also checked bios to see if there where any changes, but everything seems in order, the boot sequence and order and so on. I have no clue whats wrong and scared to turn off the computer incase next time it completely stops starting.
I am using Windows 7 Home premium 64bit(genuine) on 2.30 dual core CPU with 3 GB. I reinstalled windows and a month after the reinstall, whenever I right click on only any file to open/cut/copy/rename/delete, it takes too much time, and many times the folder in which file exist goes unresponding. I am using AVAST (after using 60 day trial of Norton) and it is updated regularly.
The title more or less says it all: "Keyboard takes a while to be recognised on bootup"
My pc boots in about 17 seconds, when it's done in order to login i have to insert my password but it takes a while (15-20 seconds or more) to recognise the keyboard so i usually use the onscreen-keyboard option. but it is really lame that i have to do it that way in order not to wait double the time.
My desktop is homebuild and I have personalized also a couple of things in windows, however this problem is pretty recent and I didn't do major changes before that.
I don't really know what extra information to give however i have an idea what the problem might be: the keyboard is inserted into an external usb port (8 extra usb slot extender), it might affect the visibility of the keyboard to windows.
However: in the bios before bootup i can clearly see the kb has been identified.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1750. Today, for no apparent reason it has started booting very slowly. When you hit the on button there is the usual sound and then the screen is just black and the computer goes quiet. Eventually, the windows logo flies in, in slow motion and then black screen again for about 3 mins
