Vista Startup Screen On Win 7 Installation
Apr 29, 2009
For some reason, my clean installation on my HTPC still boots with the old Vista startup screen (the green scrolling bar). I really like the new one that 7 has with the floating colors that come together to form the "windows" logo that works fine on my other machines. I did notice that I would always get the Vista logon when my desktop was dual boot, but now that I've eliminated all Vista installations, I get the 7 startup screen - thus I was surprised to see the old green bar show up on my HTPC, seeing as though the only OS that's on it now is Windows 7 7100 (which works GREAT!).
My HTPC has 3 drives in it, one for Media, one for extra storage (is completely empty now) and one 80GB drive for the OS. (Interestingly enough, the "Media" drive (E:) is listed as the "System" drive, even though I did the installation with all the other drives unplugged.
Is there a way that I can fix this so I get the Windows 7 startup screen?

i have recently ordered a lappy ASUS K53SV-SX520D from flipkart. the specifications are i5 second Generation processor. it came preinstalled DOS. i tried to install the windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. and i installed successfully. But some problem arose i guess the reason is that i created 3 partitions while installations and from Disk Management i created another volume. of the remaining unallocated space.now when i started the lappy m not able to BOOT. its just the blank screen with a blinking curser. i have tried many times but failed. peoplesolve this problem. its a new laptop and m no even able to start it even once.secondly. someone suggested me to delete the partitions while instaling the Win 7 again. i tried that too.. but all the options to delete, format, new, are in gray. i mean m not able to delete those 4 partitions.

New laptop has Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I have two business programs that won't run on a 64bit system. Partitioned the hard drive to install Vista Home Premium 32bit to create a dual boot system solely to run these two programs. Can't get Vista to load. Followed tutorial meticulously. All goes fine until the "Vista will boot for the first time" step. After this first boot, the screen returns to the "completing installation" page. However, the process dies here and the progress bar across the bottom of the screen never moves, even after an hour. Reformatted the partition and started over with same results. Multiple attempts always die after the first boot.

I was running Vista HP and planned to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro before I realized it would require reinstalling programs. So I called Microsoft and cancelled the Windows 7 Pro order and purchased Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade locally. But I'm having problems running all Call of Duty games with hard crashes.
Meanwhile, Windows 7 Pro Upgrade arrived in the mail despite my having cancelled it and I found that indeed, Microsoft billed my credit card. Now, I've a mind to install Windows 7 Pro on my desktop and just do the resinstalls, and then use the copy of Home Premium Upgrade on my laptop. I'm sure I'll have no problem running COD in virtual XP mode on Windows 7 Pro.
So, a couple questions:
- To install Windows 7 Pro, I assume I have to first install my earlier version of Vista? Can I do that if it's already "linked - if that's the correct word" with the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade I've had in place for a couple of weeks and is registered?
- Can I then install the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade on my Vista HP laptop, despite that it has already been registered on the desktop? Or do I need to call Microsoft?

I had an old HP laptop running Vista and the the video died but, the hard disk was still good. The computer itself was not worth repairing. I replaced it with a new Dell XPS running Windows 7. I took the old hard disk and installed it into an external USB enclosure. I can plug it into the new computer and transfer the data easily. But what about the applications, application data, user settings, etc.

As of about 3 days ago my Dell Inspiron N7010 (Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit) fails to boot up. It gets to the initial Windows screen before the login screen and freezes, then sends me into Startup Repair. [code] I've tried running the diagnostics and get no error codes. I've tried restore points, memory diagnostics.. pretty much everything except factory image, with no success. I have a lot of government programs installed on this laptop, so.

I'm using I have a DELL4500S desktop, on startup it will not go to the login screen, the screen is just black with the cursor showing. I've tried restarting the computer, unplugging everything and restarting it. Nothing is working. When it first starts a pop up shows and says "This Application has failed to start because SAMLIB.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."I'm not sure what it's talking about and what to re install and I can't reinstall whatever it is because I can't get to the start menu.

Everything shows up fine until the welcome screen after that it normally used to fade to the desktop but now it goes blank. The screen in Black with only the mouse pointer. Its not hung, i can move the mouse pointer. Then after a minute or so it advances to the desktop. Everything on the desktop loads up in less than 5s. The PC runs fine, it is really fast as there are only a few programs, but only boots slow. My total boot time is about 3-5 min. I think it should be like in a minute or so.I have not tweaked much with the system but have installed a few programs like MS office, Nero, Acrobat and Photoshop. These are the only heavy programs in the PC right now. The only games on the PC are AC1 and AC2. I have uninstalled my graphic driver and reinstalled. I already minimized the programs in the msconfig>startup to the minimum. I have run ccleaner, spybot s&d, Antimalware and i also have a trial copy of Kaspersky AV (upgrading later to 1-year license). there are no peripherals attached during boot except the USB keyboard and mouse. A printer is attached too but is most of the time turned off.

Specs:
Toshiba laptop
Win7 home premium 64-bit
3gb RAM
freshly formatted hard drive
original media from Toshiba with win7
I am trying to completely wipe this laptop off and start fresh. The recovery partition has been removed as part of my search for a resolution for the problem. When I try to install windows 7 on this machine I start by selecting to format the entire hard drive. It completes this and then starts the installation of windows 7. It take a very long time for windows to unpack the files and copy them to disc. After about an hour and a half it starts asking me for the User name/location/time settings, etc.
After that it reboots to startup windows for the first time. It immediately tells me that windows cannot start and startup repair will need to be run or I can select to ignore this and try to start normally. Either option yields no improvement. After working with each of those options I just decided to reformat the drive and start the install again. Even after the drive was wiped and fully formatted I get the same error once the windows installation finishes.

I am running windows 7 and I booted into safe mode to do a sfc /scannow. I was having another small issue and thought that I would just do that to check if it would fix it. After I rebooted I got a boot menu that said that I have Windows 7 and Vista installed and I should pick which OS I wanted. This was upgraded from Vista. I picked Windows 7 and it couldn't find it. Tried again and picked Vista and it couldn't find it either. That wasn't good. I had a Vista recovery disk from Neosmart and tried that. It booted on that and detected right away that there was an issue and offered to fix it. I let it and when it rebooted, I got the Vista startup screen but it was my Windows 7 that I ended up with. It couldn't be any different because that is all that is on it.
I am assuming that because I used a Vista disk for the repair is why that happed but when I try to now use a Windows 7 recovery disk, it doesn't change back. Not that it is really important, but wondering if I can change it back. Otherwise, I guess as long as it is working, not going to worry about it.

I have installed Windows 7 build 7000 in a couple of PCs , everything fine.
I have installed it on a netbook (LG X110, its the same with MSI WIND U100), and upon boot, the boot screen is the old Vista animated boot screen, with the green bar loader at the bottom. No new Windows 7 boot screen.
I guess it has to do with the screen size of LG X110 (10") which also causes screen detection issues in other OS's (e.g. Backtrack 3), but is there an option where I can FORCE the resolution/screen size so that it will show the correct boot screen?

I just went through a lot of trouble to get Windows XP, Windows 7 and Grub2 (for all my Linux distros) working together. In order to do so, I followed this post on the Ubuntu forums. The part that concerns Windows 7 is Step 2.
I ran all the commands and was able to get all of the OSes working together, but now Windows 7 is using Vista's ugly green scrolling bar as the boot screen.
I've tried Code: bcdedit /set {current} locale en-US and Code: bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US Neither worked. I'd rather avoid doing a clean install, if possible.

I am using w7 ultimate with a GT 9600 Nvidia GPU, connected to a samsung 22" wide screen via a HDMI cable, when I boot up the OS loads the startup screen in the old Vista format instead of the new W7 screen. It appears that my issue is the initial low resolution output via the HDMI cable. I have tried a DVI cable onto anther screen and the issue is not present as the new 3 ball bootup screen appears. Is there any way that I can tell the OS and or the GPU to start up immediately in a higher resolution which will enable the W7 newer boot screen.

I'm having an issue with one of my windows Vista systems. It's a HP computer (blah, I know)... and is several years old. It's issue of late occurs on start-up. After attempting to "Start windows normally", the system will display the load screen then immediately go to a black screen. It doesn't restart... it just stays black. I've tried to go into Safe Mode as well as do a system restore and go to the last known good config. Nothing works. The problem is there is over 200 gb worth of work, school and personal files on this system I need to export to my external hd. After that I don't care what happens to this freakin computer.

I had Grub and Kubuntu, then was done with linux for the time being, so i cleared the partition that it was on, and when i restarted grub was giving an error etc, so all i could find was my vista 64 cd, and after some reading on MS support pages, being that they used the same loader to fix it with that dvd.
So i ran this in the cmd prompt:
bcdedit /export c:BCD_Backup
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:ootcd bcd.old
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
and everything was dandy, it fixed the loader.... but put the vista boot screen(the simplistic screen with the loading bar)
so i go access to my windows 7 iso, burned it, and re did the same process (but used the repair option first cuz it asked me and i figured it would be easier) and then ran the same commands to hopefully refresh the loader w/ the possibly newer windows 7 one(mainly for the boot logo)
but its still showing the old vista logo
i know this seems silly but how can i fix it back to the newer windows 7 one?

Some might remember I posted a few days ago about installing Windows 7 (64bit) separately on this same comp (different hard drive) to test what drivers worked for the devices I had, in particular the Canon scanner.
Anyway it worked, and I booted into Windows 7 64b fine - but I had a few issues getting back into 32-bit one (64bit one became the active boot. even after i used diskpart and bcdedit etc.
Anyway, I got the 32-bit install to again load as the default (and deleted the 64-bit partition). BUT, I keep getting the Vista booting screen - i.e. the small green loading bar instead of the elaborate "Starting Windows'. I then put in the Windows 7 dvd in and went to repair the install (to try & get the Windows 7 boot screen back), but it wouldnt even find the OS install to repair it.
So basically, its back to the 32bit Windows 7 install fine - but with the older Vista loading screen. Any ideas?
