I have Windows 7 Pro (RTM) installed on a DELL Precision M65 laptop.
My LAN interface reports "Cable unplugged" although the cable is inserted and working.
I have no network connection through this interface.
the onboard NIC is a Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit adapter and the driver reports it is working correctly.
If i try to install the latest driver from Broadcom, Windows says I already have the latest driver installed!
Any Suggestions?
I have a new gaming computer with a high end video card and plenty of RAM and a high speed cable Internet connection. I also have a HDHomeRun TV cable unit which is listed to work with MS Media Center. When I set up my Media Center/TV connection it recognizes my HDHomeRun TV connection and all three TV channels via my MCard I got from Comcast cable. But next to the last dialog window, during setting up my TV connection, I got the following message, "Your computer is not digital cable ready. You will not be able to set it up for use with a cable card."

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I recently installed win7 to my desktop which at the time had Ubuntu as the sole OS. I wanted all my stuff from Ubuntu after win7 install so I created an NTFS partition and moved all my crap there, wipe Ubuntu and did a clean install. So after I moved all my stuff from the NTFS patition to the win7 partition I ran gparted and erased the extra drive. What I was paying attention to was that win7 installed into an extended partition. Now when I try to boot I get a 'Disk failure boot, insert system disk and press enter'. So I thought ok easy enough, no luck it can't run the repair from install disk as it can't see the drive for some reason. is there any hope for my drive? Or should I clean install? No biggie if I have too, I can run Ubuntu live and move my crap if need be, just would rather not.

C: is Windows 7 32-bit
D: is Vista 32-bit
E: is Windows 7 64-bit

I now want to get rid of the Vista partition and give its sectors to the Windows 7 64-bit.
I tried shrinking the Vista partiton, but the extend option is greyed out for Windows 7 64-bit.
How do I remove Vista and have it deleted from the boot manager setup?
Then how do I extend the Windows 7 64-bit into the, now empty, Vista partition?
How can i create an extended partition using Windows 7 and how can i add logical drives to it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've decided to join the forum seeking for help with this problem I'm facing on a relatively new Dell XPS 15 laptop. The machine is around 7 months old, has Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit edition installed (OEM) and has been updated to SP1. The problem first appeared when trying to backup files to an external 2 TB WD hard drive. While backing up the files, explorer.exe crashed, and my browser and iTunes crashed rapidly after, all giving some random address 0x. as the cause of failure. Around 15 seconds after this, I receive a BSOD with KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR written at the top, and a notification at the bottom that the physical memory dump FAILED with status 0xC0000010. I thought that maybe I was straining the hard disk too much by transferring so many files at once, so I reboot the system, only to get a notification after POST that "there was a disk error, press CRTL-ALT-DEL to reboot". After doing this, the system rebooted, went into startup repair, rebooted again, and boot up normally. Ever since this ocurrence (which was a week ago) I've been getting random BSODs when doing random things on the computer, but mostly, when doing hard drive intensive operations. However, an interesting thing to note is that the subsequent BSODs did not contain the error message KERNEL_INPAGE_ERROR at the top anymore, but reported a STOP 0x0000004f at the bottom, and the same FAILED status for the physical memory dump. I tried running a chkdsk, but found no errors. I ran a DELL Memory diagnostics tool that found no errors. So I'm leaning towards a drivers issue.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to add a new internal 1TB HDD with 2 partitions: 100GB for scratch disk space for Adobe CS, Autocad etc. and the remaining 900GB for User Data. My OS/Apps is on a 90GB SSD with no partitions. I have read the tutorial on creating a new partition but several questions remain unanswered..
1. should both the "S" partition ("S"cratch space) and "U" partition (User Data) be extended partitions, or should the "S" partition be Primary? If I desired to direct temp files here and possibly a 2nd pagefile...would that dictate primary or extended type? Is it OK to perform all these functions on this partition (scratch space, temp, pagefile?).
2. I want the "S" scratch disk partition to be on the outer edge of the drive so that it is the fastest. Do I create this partition 1st or 2nd?
3. Since I'm not installing an OS on this HDD, the 100MB "recovery" partition will not be created on this one? Would it be advantageous to have such a partition if the other SDD with OS/Apps fails?

I want to partition the first drive into just a couple of partitions. I guess I will have to shrink the main partition to about 100GB for the OS and apps.

I'm not sure how to decide what type of partitions to have.
I have a Genius GPen 4500 USB graphics tablet (using the built-in Windows 7 driver), and would like to use it on my secondary monitor (which is 4:3, unlike my primary which is 16:9)However, windows seems to have decided that the tablet is integrated into my primary monitor (according to "Tablet PC Settings" in the control panel - it shows "Pen Input Avaliable" for the "1. View 1 Replies View RelatedEarlier in the year I bought myself an Apple Mac Mini. I knew I could run Windows on it and soon installed Windows 7. For various reasons I'd like to run 2 copies of Windows, plus OS-X, plus a shared FAT32 partition which all OSs can see and write to. You wouldn't think that would be so difficult..!Unfortunately, Macs use the GPT disk partitioning scheme (which doesn't support extended or logical volumes), Instead, it can support up to 128 primary partitions. However, these get presented to Windows as if they were MBR partitions. GPT also needs an EFI partition, giving me 5 partitions minimum for what I need. Windows backup & partitioning tools (e.g. Paragon's Drive Backup) mistakenly see this as an MBR drive with 5 primary partitions and subsequently refuse to work.Fortunately, Mac OS-X doesn't actually need to be on a GPT drive. It'll run perfectly well from an MBR drive which should in theory save me one partition (the EFI partition). In practice however, installing Windows 7 on an MBR drive causes it to create a 100MB System partition. This leaves me needing 5 partitions again which gets me right back to square one!Is there any way to configure Windows 7 so that it doesn't need that 100MB partition?

I wanted to make a large extended partition of the unallocated space and then divide it into some logical drives to hold my programs, pictures & films,... etc. As Windows 7 makes primary partition always i am limited to 4 partitions and that is not enough.

My daughter is a teacher and just got a new smart board installed. She has a Epson projector hooked up and can only get duplicate as an option in Windows 7. It will not let her use the projector as an extended display. She need to be able to change resolutions on each desktop as her laptop is wide screen at 16:10 and her smart screen is 4:3 ratio. She is a math teacher and needs to be able to make correct circles and graphs on both, one has circle while the other displays an oval. I have changed the resolution and can get one or the other to work right, but not both. As far as I know the only way to have different resolutions on each is with extended display.
