Extended Display Resolution Showing Different Things
Feb 2, 2012
My daughter is a teacher and just got a new smart board installed. She has a Epson projector hooked up and can only get duplicate as an option in Windows 7. It will not let her use the projector as an extended display. She need to be able to change resolutions on each desktop as her laptop is wide screen at 16:10 and her smart screen is 4:3 ratio. She is a math teacher and needs to be able to make correct circles and graphs on both, one has circle while the other displays an oval. I have changed the resolution and can get one or the other to work right, but not both. As far as I know the only way to have different resolutions on each is with extended display.
My system shows low disk space. So i want to increase my C partion without format. My system did not showing me extended volume of that c: then what can i do?
When I open my Windsor program I can see it is open but it won't show anywhere. I have an extended screen and I can see when the program opens that the screen flashes and it looks like the program is hidden. I have tried all the options I know of including re-installing software.
Some more details. The program I run had four charts open and when I last closed the program I had one of the charts expanded.
This has happened to me around some months ago, when i was trying to install some games, and now, whenever i reboot my PC, the screen resolution changes. My native monitor res is: 1680x1050.But on Catalyst Control Center, whenever i reboot, the EDID would show that my max. res is 1600x1200, so i have to manually uncheck the "use extended display identification data or driver defaults" box and set the res to 1680 again.
I am very curious to know how to connect a laptop display to another laptop display. I have an old laptop and a new laptop with windows 7. I did some extended displays to other monitors. But any one have any idea about extending to a Laptop display from another Laptop.
I've had this card now for ~2 months, and it has worked flawlessly, up until now. Out of nowhere my monitors native res. of 1920x1080 is not an option in the control panel (it says display device generic pnp...or something like that) In Nvidia control panel 1920x1080 is an option however when i choose it and click apply it reverts back to the incorrect resolution (1024x 768 i think it was)the option for display device is something like GTX 580 generic-non PnP...
I have a hp w19 monitor and its native resolution is 1440*900
it worked fine on windows xp and vista on my old rig but in windows 7 the nearest resolution which i got was 1600*1200 which was too big for my monitor to display.
Now my question is that i am building a new rig with intel i7 860 4 gb corsiar ram and a ati radeon hd 5850 i will be plugging my video card into my moniter via a vga cable so will this problem be common and i will also use th 64 bit version of win 7 and earlier i was using the 32 bit.
Can't get monitor to display same resolution between 2 workspaces - Microsoft Community Copy/paste of text in OP (posted Nov 21, 2012): Ok, so here's my setup:HP EliteBook 6930p with ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics card. Win 7 Pro 32 bit installed.I have 2 workspaces, both with docking stations.Workspace 1 (primary work site) had 24" wide (primary monitor) and 19" wide monitors.Resolutions that Windows let me set were 1920x1080 and 1440x900, respectively. These monitors were also hooked to the docking station via DVI and VGA cables, respectively.Workspace 2 had a 19" standard monitor (1280x1024, VGA, set as primary) and then I would open the laptop beside it for the dual monitor (1280x800).Today I have pulled the 19" wide from workspace 1 to replace the 19" standard at workspace 2. Windows, however, will only let me set the resolution to 1280x720 (still using VGA). Even taking off the "hide modes" option or going into the ATI Catalyst Control center to try and force it does not work. I've also tried switching between which one is primary or even making it single monitor display (on the 19" wide). 1440x900 is simply not available.
Windows 7 installed without any problems, and found all the hardware devices, but the only problem I have is that the monitor will only dislplay at 1920x1080. If you lower it , the monitor will not display a full screen. Tried all resolutions, and have the latest 191 drivers. Any ideas..
I have a Toshiba LED TV that I use as a secondary display. Up until today, it worked fine at 1920x1080. Now for some reason Windows is detecting it as a generic UPNP display and it it only let's me set it up to 1600x900. I have tried installing updates and drivers, but I cannot fix it.
After installing Windows 7 on Gateway W340UI, the display resolution is decrease till 1024x768. And it hurts eyes and makes less comfortable work on laptop. I suppose that the package drivers of Windows 7 are not compatible with Gateway W340UI. If you know the way of increasing screen resolution
I have a dual head setup that works ok. My issue though is that whenever I do a reboot, I have to go into display resolution settings and re-enable "extend" displays.
Is there a way to make this persistent? It's just annoying doing a reboot and having to spend time re-organizing your desktop every time.
I used to use a MBP as my main computer, coupled with a 30" Apple Cinema Display (Model A1083 - purchased three years ago). I recently purchased a PC (i7-950 3.06 GHz; AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB; Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) to use as my home computer, and the MBP for mobile purposes. However, I cannot get the new PC to recognize the native resolution of the Apple Cinema Display (2560x1600). The monitor shows a maximum display resolution of 1200x800. I am using the only connection the monitor has to hook into the PC -- DVI-D Dual Link.In the screen options, under Control Panel, it shows the monitor as "CINEMA" but the drivers reflect "Generic PnP monitor".
From what I can discern, people used to use WinACD (WinACD | Download WinACD software for free at SourceForge.net) as a fix for this common issue, but the file has been discontinued and the last version was made for WindowsXP.
im running win 7 x86 in a vaio vgn nr 21s/s with a 8400mgt and i cant find a driver which displays my correct resolution in my external wide screen (22'' at 1680/1050)
all i cant get is 1600/1200 or above but not he optimal.
Win 7-64 on Gateway FX6860 i7 system 8gm ram tons of HD space. Got "Page Failed to Load" error attempting to change my Windows 7-64bit display resolution. This used to work, but no more ( don't know what might have caused it). I ran "sfc /scannow". SFC reported that there were corrupted files that could not be repaired or replaced and to look at CBS.log. I did but can make no sense out of it.
I am unable to find a single resolution that will provide a good display on all websites. As a result I am adjusting it when moving from one site to another. Not difficult to do, but if I could rid myself of this chore, it would be great. Problems are wrong screen size and garbled text.WIN 7 premium, 64 bit, using 32 bit IE9 due to the lack of a flash player that will work on 64 bit IE9.
My monitor uses the resolution 1024 x 768, but this morning it's on 640 x 480?i try to change the resolution back, but the Resolution option is greyed out?A warning underneath says: If your resolution is below 1024 x 768, some items may not fit on the screen.
I have recently installed windows 7 now for a while. Before 7 I had vista and then xp, both which I used dual monitors.
Since switching to windows 7, dual display does not work any more, I have two monitors which I tried with the addtional main display, both of them power up with the light displayed on the monitor, but there is no input detected by the monitors.
I have swapped my graphics card now twice at pcworld 9800GT pci-e, so I know its not the graphics card. Monitors I am using have VGA connetions but have a adapter to fit into the dvi port.
One mointor I have tried is this one Octigen-Welcome to Octigen The other one is a stock flat screen I got from packard bell I have no link for that one. I have no Idea what I am not doing right, help, something in windows which is not working?
I am using windows seven ultimate. I have accidentally choosen Display 2. In the screen resolution and now my laptop doesn't start in normal mode. Its like I have to connect to an external display like a laptop to view my Desktop. I can only access it using safe mode..
i have a Sapphire hd 7850 graphics card and two monitors connected to it one hdmi one dvi-d. both screens are showing the same image and when i go into screen resolution it shows only one "generic PnP montitor". this was a fresh install of windows seven and it did work before that. the driver for the graphics card is saying "standard VGA adaptor" is this normal
I'm having a problem with my display, it's showing as if it were in safe mode, with the icons stretched out. However, it's not in safe mode I have started it in normal mode. The resolution is showing as 1024 x 768.
I have a problem getting Media Center to display my Photos showing the individual photos contents of each folder.I am running Windows 7 HP 64 bit with all updates. My MEDIA (movies, music & photos) are on a separate hdd (M). Each of the media formats has it's own folder on the M drive, Movies, Music & Photos. I have no problem with the movies or the music. However, when I choose "pictures" in Windows Media Center only the individual photos folders are shown....no photos are shown in these folders. I see the individual folders but no contents. I have set up "Libraries" on the C: drive; Music, Video & Photos. When I click on photos in the "Libraries" all the photos folders are show each with it's own photos. I have "Shared" these libraries as well as each folder on the Media drive M. The format of the individual photos is jpg. I have run SFC/Scannow.

Things like compressing a 4 gig or above file using winrar, Trying to convert a 15 gig MKV movie to MP4 format using Avs Video Converter, playing avengers in facebook while listening to MP3 using Winamp. This are the ones I noticed that is guaranteed to cause a BSOD after quite a while. checking event viewer, everything seems in order except for this error, which always occurs at the exact time to the second when the BSOD happens.
I have new PC with Intel video card, W 7 HP. It's new ZT box from Costco with single video out connector. I watch TV on it and trying to set it so I can watch TV and have another desktop ready for my other computer stuff. Can it be done.I have option for single, extended destiop in my video settings. I did someting so I can get clean destkop on TV, but could not start my TV app on it.
My laptop with XP used the external monitor as extended workspace. W7 only uses the extra monitor and ignores the laptop's monitor. It is a old Acer and appears to run my W7 ultimate OK except for this limitation. Lotsa new ways to do old stuff - big learning curve.
