View 8 RepliesI just completed a fresh install of Windows 7 on my Dell XPS 17. For some reason, when the computer is on battery power and is idle, the screen will flicker. Basically if I am on battery power, the moment I stop typing or using the mouse, the screen will flicker after about a second. Then as soon as I resume using the computer, it will flicker again. It will also flash at random other times... Only when on battery power (so far).As I mentioned, I just completed a fresh install of windows 7 after reformatting my drive because of virus issues. I did have some issues with getting drivers installed and still have have that are missing (see attached photo). I have not been able to get these drivers to install. One thought I had is that the screen issue may be a result of improperly installed graphics drivers? Just a thought. System Info:

When trying to install my Windows 7 Service Pack1 updates I keep getting this message "Your Computer is Running on Battery Power". I get the message even when the computer is plugged in. What could be causing this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn XP, we had the option of executing a script when the computer switched from AC to battery power, and also when the battery reached a critical level. This was extremely useful because I had a special script run to send an email that the power had gone out and then hibernate the computer when it reached a critical level.
In the Windows 7 power options screens, I see no such options. Were they removed?
so i am not intirerly sure this is the correct place to post it.Secondly, i think this is a problem that i have created myself and now i am unable to correct it.The jist of it is this. Whenever i try to active the webcam (Function + F10) a pop-up shows saying that hardware connected to a USB port is not recognized. This must be cause by the cam (which us buillt-in) is connected to the USB port on the motherboard. When i go to device manager, i can see that there is a unknown device connected, whenever the webcam is powered on.Btw it worked fine when i did the initial installation of the computer. What i have tried to do to resolve this is the following:
- Remove all drivers asociated with the webcam - reboot - reinstall from provided CD
- Power down, take out batteri (even for en entire night) to let the motherboard reload the USB drivers.
- Removed all the USB drivers and have tried reinstallling
I deleted som folders from my D: drive, (which is not the partition that has my windows directory installed) and there i might have deleted som crutial files for the webcam software to work.I have no idea on how to go on from here. This is a computer i have spend quite a long time getting up-2-date with all the programs i use for school and the exams are coming up. I would really like not having to do a clean install right now.
I have just been given a Fujitsu Lifebook S6540 running windows 7 and on the whole it is fine but it is eating the battery when switched off. Research on the internet has shown that the computer, although seeming to shut down may still be running in the background. I have therefore been into the registry and changed the powerdown after shutdown code to 1 rather than 0 which should ensure a complete shut down. I duly did this and let the computer charge up before shutting down and then left it for a day.It did not make a shred of difference and found half the battery had been use

View 7 Replies View RelatedMy laptop wouldn't boot yesterday, the fan came on and the 'on' led came one, it beeped when I plugged in the charger but nothing on the screen and no post beeps etc. I let the battery drain fully, plugged it back in once it powered off and it booted fine. I shut it down last night and it did the same today on boot up, nothing. Again, discharging the battery fully brought it back.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

I'm using a laptop (not dedicated gaming, but suffices) and my games (the recent ones) slow down whenever I'm in battery mode. A couple of friends told me I should set it High Performance, which I doubted since they don't seem to be the type to change the power plan settings and more so with the advanced plan settings.

Does anyone know what this is and where I can disable it?
I don't get it. i upgraded from vista to 7 when it came out. a few problems i have that i need explained by someone who knows more than me are:
1. How come when i raise or lower my volume it doesn't show on the screen that my volume is being raised or lowered.
2. How come when i use caps lock it does not show on my screen that its on all caps or not. (i need this because on passwords i have no way of knowing.)
3. How come when i press my battery button it does not display how much battery i have left.
it seems like none of my F1 - F12 keys work. why is this and how do i fix it so it shows up on the screen like it did in vista.
another problem i have is when i type fast, my keyboard spazzes out and it types random stuff, it freezes, and it opens files/folders all at the same time.
Replaced my VGA cable with and HDMI cable because screen wouldn't leave power save mode due to lack of communication between tower and screen. HDMI solves that. Now I have no internet connection. No signs of life. Cable guy comes over plugs his laptop into the..box thing where the internet comes from... says the internet is working fine must be your computer and he leaves. So now that my screen is working I can trouble shoot - can't find a network adapter. I have no idea what that means, and it is not listed anywhere on my control panel list of drivers and things. Tried to reinstall whatever that is.. which is hard when your just guessing and clicking things. Bottom line is after using the drivers and devices disc and reinstalling everything that said "network" in the title there is still no signs of life. I don't have wireless so the whole adapter thing isn't making sense either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS K50IE laptop that i had for 2 years now. been working fine until 2 days ago.this problem has been bugging me for the last 2 days. here's why.my laptop suddenly didn't detect my battery. thought it was because my battery was dead. I searched the net on things to do before "throwing in the towel" on my battery and today i came across a blog where the instruction was to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery driver. I did just that and my battery suddenly worked! well sort of. now here's where it gets all weird.every time i open my laptop i do the following:1. plug in AC to laptop.. turn on laptop.3. unplug AC.3. laptop runs on battery.4. log on to windows.5. battery icon shows up as an empty charging icon then shows the "Battery is not detected" icon again.please take note that my laptop is still ON and WORKING. so this means (MAYBE?) that my battery is working.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI am currently building a custom desktop (Specifications in My System Specs) and I've run into a few problems along the way:
- When I first put it all together and powered it up, the edge of the motherboard literally caught on fire for a second and I immeadiately turned the power off.
- I returned the motherboard and the psu and got both brand new again.
- I just tried to reinstall the motherboard and psu and now I get no power at all to the pc.
- I checked all connectors to make sure they were plugged in tightly and correctly. Everything looked fine. The 12V atx power connector and 24-pin connector were both plugged in correctly.
- I checked the psu with a paper clip and checked the voltage of each pin that should have been outputting voltage. Everything was fine there. And the psu powered up and the fans turned as soon as I pressed the switch.
- Checked for bad heads on the motherboard. None.

View 7 Replies View Relatedis it very highly recommended to do a registry change - USB Port Remains Active for Disabled or Safely Removed USB Device to power down usb devices like external hard drives after clicking safely remove on windows 7i started using windows 7 recently and the first internal hard drive which i used for external storage on the netbook - windows 7 became unusable after 4 times' usage. Later, I found out about external hard drives still spinning after safely remove or shutting down the computer , on windows 7.i want to protect my other external hard drives so, hence my question above.
No one around me did the registry change as they said that as long as safely remove feature is used, it is enough already despite that the hard drive is still spinning.i hope that i can find at least one person here who is very serious in caring about his/her external hard drives, to give me his/her input.I notice windows 7's usb issue started back in late 2009. I wonder why Microsoft never include its remedy - USB Port Remains Active for Disabled or Safely Removed USB Device in the updates. Is there any bad effect when using the remedy
