My friends and i are planning to build a PC that will serve as our minecraft server; small SSD, lot's of RAM, etc, and we were just going to use windows 7 home premium 64 bit on it like a normal computer. However, my dad who works in computer neworking/consulting said that windows 7 only allows 10 people to be accessing it at one time, which means we can't have more than 10 people playing on the server at a time. I don't think this is true because they would be connecting to the executable not to windows itself. Will this Windows 7 restriction affect the minecraft server executable? We want roughly 20 people playing on it. If so, should we just use Windows Home Server or something like that?
I want to host a Minecraft server, I also own a domain at one.com. Just a couple of questions; Can I use the DNS (or something else) on my domain to somehow make players able to connect to for example "mc.mydomain.com" instead of having to write my IP? Or Can I host the server on my domain? Anything else? Or should I port forward something? Hopefully this fits in the gaming category (Minecraft)... Could fit in some other categories aswell.
After loading minecraft and playing for a few minuets trying to close it minecraft freezes up the entire computer even task manager and then we must shut the computer off by the main power and after a few minuets of freezing it comes back to normal what is the problem?
For the last few weeks in rarely touching minecraft, whenever I did, I'd get an "Out of Memory!!" Error message and quit the game. Well, I detected that I was playing Minecraft SP on Java 32 bit, when I have a x64 OS. I tried downloading and installing x64 Java but it made no difference. I tried uninstalling the x86 version but when I opened Minecraft it gave me an error saying that it was missing some files prior to me uninstalling the x86 version of Java 7.

recently got a new Pc the Asus G75 to be exact but every one and a while Minecraft will MASSIVELY lag. This shouldn't be happening on a gaming laptop like this does any know what the problem is?
I have been having BSOD for a while now. It happens during extended general use, or when playing games (really only minecraft). However, when I turn the power settings to "Power saver" I do not usually get a crash (not as far as i remember anyhow). But I would rather not have to use that mode, because it makes using more than one window at a time slow, and severely impacts game performance.
Here are the Sys Specs: Windows 7 x64 Is the Original Install (however it is dual booted with Linux mint 12, but I was having the same problems before then as well); OEM version 4 gigs RAM 500gig HD
On my new laptop and after around 20 seconds in game minecraft freezes. I have put the graphics on both highest and lowest with no changes. Theres also 2 ways that my minecraft is crashing.
1st: Minecraft just stops and i have to open task manager to close it.
2nd: Minecraft freezes and then i get a black screen. Then it goes back to the main screen, minecraft closes, and then in the bottom right a message pops up saying. "AMD video has stopped responding and has recovered successfully. I tried finding drivers but couldent in the end what now!
When I'm playing minecraft, at RANDOM times, the entire computer will just freeze for me.The sound gets stuck in this jarring freeze like repeat and I can't click Ctrl-Alt-Delete or Alt-f4 or anything. I can normally play at 100 fps with no problems until this freeze happens. I've tried letting it sit for a while but it just remains frozen. It doesn't give me BSoD, it just freezes. Also, I've checked my event log but no unusual events show up besides the computer shutting down unexpectedly. This seems to happen ONLY when I'm playing MINECRAFT
Have been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.
This guy does a great job at this .
Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! - Multiboot Installation
Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).
i was playing minecraft as usual and then the screen frezes for 10 seconds then goes n normaly then the screen becomes black then the BSOD i havent read much because it restarted but i was having this eror from christmas i replaced my hard driver and reinstal my windows a few times. Then somebody told me it was an overloading problem then i stoped playing like 24/7 hrs on minecraft and it was good no more BSODs and i started playing 24/7 again for about 2 weeks but now i got it again just a few minutes ago i downloaded and instaled and used BSOD veiwer and the here is it:

I need help port forwarding my minecraft server via wifi. I have all permisions to setup but after all the threads and programs I have tried, nothing works. I get exception Failed to Bind to port perhaps another server is already running on this port.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook with windows 7 home premium 64-bit. My problem is lately any time i play some games like minecraft or star trek online after about 5 to 10 mins my screen goes blank with black and white or greenish white vertical lines going across my screen. Im not sure where to start or
I am trying to set up a home server with filezilla server. I am following this site's tutorial to help secure the data flow: [URL]. After doing all of this, I get an error saying "Invalid IP address/range/mask".
i have a 2006 acer laptop that just recently decided not to get onto the internet. it will connect to the network but no internet. i have looked at more forums than i can count but to no avail. i will try to list the problems/symptoms but i am not familiar with programming language and don't know exactly what all the command prompts are suppoed to achieve and the like.-isatap ipv6 adapter is not working (some people say it does'nt matter but???)-ip address starts with 169-ipconfig /release and release6 does not workbecause "an address has not yet been associated with the network endpoint"-ipconfig /flushdns does not work because "function failed during execution"-cannot displaydns because "dns cache is unavailable"-cannot registerdns because "rpc server is unavailable"-checked my services and found some dependant ones that i could not manually start ERROR1075: DNS client service, tcp/ip netbios helper, routing and remote access, internetconnection sharing (ics). all failed to start with the same error code 1075-ERROR 10022- netlogon service-tried "netsh int ip reset" but reset echo request failed. "access denied". i am the admin for this computer. it worked the first time i tried it with no errors. now i get the failed echo message.
-cannot setclassid "as know adapter is in a state permissable for this action"-i saw something about the dhcp-read on one forum that people were having trouble after deleting norton(symantc) programs. i have deleted norton programs and think i got all of them (how to be sure?)-netsh winsock reset successfully-tried regrepair, regseeker, and a few of those "free download" programs that say they will fix your problems after you register/purchase them. i figure if the computer can stop working so easily i can get it to start as easily. maybe that's naivety speaking.-i have scanned my cpu for viruses (naturally) with 3-4 different programs (maybe norton would have found something).clean-thought it might have something to do with the registery since i had a nasty virus everal months ago that i think changed it somehow.-of course my system restore points are dated after this problem occured.-i bought the computer at staples and it did not come with a windows startup disc.
i can't think of any more though i know i've tried more than is listed. the dns and rpc servers seem to be the main coulprits but how do i fix that? also possibly the norton issue? i've read so many forums i'm seeing triple and everyone seems to suggest the same things. i've tried them so many times (to no avail). i've even changed the network adapters ipv6 and ipv4 adresses to 208.67.222.222 with the alternate. nothing. there has to be something i'm overlooking but what
Just installed my first Windows 7 PC. It is the 64 bit ver. Works like a charm, very impressive BUT.I cannot get it to attach to our DOMAIN. It does NOT see the server. We have a windows 2003 server. 5 PCs are attached to it through a hub. Internet is through a cable router which is attached to the hub. The cable router acts as a DHCP server, and the new Windows 7 machine has an IP address within the scope. All 5 of the PCs are Win XP and have no problem attaching to the domain and the server can be seen simply by Opening Explorer then going to My Network Places. The Windows 7 PC found the Internet immediately and there is no problem surfing the web.On the Windows 7 machine it was defaulted to Home Network. When I try to change it to a DOMAIN, no matter what I do it comes back with "The Network Path was not found".I also use the wizard which tries to connect to the domain through different means and while it does come up for username and password it still rejects it in the end the same errors as above.
I also have tried all of this both with the firewall enabled and disabled. At present I have the firewall fully disabled. I've tried everything....used the workstation username, the administrator name....all the same results. Now here's the weird part, if I fiddle around enough in the network discovery window for whatever reason after a while suddenly the server and the other XP computers appear on the network. I have not been able to find out what it was that I was doing that click this or if for some reason there's something that just triggered it.However once this happens if I reboot the computer it goes back to the way it was and I have to go through this all over again clicking things and refreshing in the network window until suddenly it starts again and then I can use the network all until it might disappear at some other point.Still even when the network can be seen and the server can be seen I still cannot change from workgroup to domain.
I can ping the server by the IP number and the server name.I can paying an XP workstation by its name or IP address but only if I turn the xp workstation firewall off.Reading on some of the other forms somebody suggested to turn off the network adapter Internet protocol version 6 under the adapter properties. I did this but it didn't really have any effect that I could tell. However one thing that seem to make it easier for me to see the network was by going into the IP version 4 properties and clicking on the "use the following DNS server address" and inserting the server's IP address. I also went into the advanced settings to the DNS and insert it again the server's IP address also added under DNS suffix for this connection the name of the domain.I am completely out of ideas at this point I do not understand why I can't change to a domain name, nor why I cannot see the server without a lot of clicking and hitting the keyboard.
Every since I upgraded to Win7 Pro 64bit from Win7 Pro 32bit I have been getting "The DNS server isnot responding" error randomly and constantly (I attached the most current reports). I got rid of the Windows drivers and went straight to the Intel site for the drivers.....issue remains. Tried a complete power cycle of the router and modem....issue remains (No other computers are having the DNS issues, wired and wireless). I disabled the Bonjour Service (mDNSResponder.exe).issue remains. The is driving me nuts and I notice that the only way I can force the connection is to disable and enable the NIC
I am having issues with my wireless connections! My connection to my desktop is fine..but my wireless connection to my PS3, Iphone 4 and Hp Laptop is not working!

My computer is running a fresh installed Windows 7 premium 64-bit OS, I use a Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter to connect to the internet. The packaging and product description states it's Windows 7 compatible, but in the last 1 1/2 weeks I've been plagued with problems relating to network connectivity and internet. My current dilemma is that the networking center shows I'm connected to the internet but when I try to load a page the web browser displays "Server not Found." Also when I try to use an internet based program such an MMO it also gives the error message Server not Found also.( Update ) In addiction, just it showed "No internet access", I troubleshot the problem and windows found no solution. Then the network center showed I had no network connections. 4 mins later it shows I'm connected to the internet again. The "Server not Found" error still persists.
I have a Server 2008 with Fax service installed and working. I cannot get either my Win 7 workstations nor my XP workstations to connect to the fax server. Both can connect to \serverfax as a printer, but neither can actually function. The Win 7 Fax & Scan says "You do not have security permissions to complete this operation" when I try to add the \server as an account. XP says something similar.
just about every time i turn my computer on i get a message that says that i couldn't connect to windows server, than i have to reset my computer a few times sometimes until it connects.
I have two computers. A desktop that has all my media and a school laptop that really doesn't have much on it. However sometimes I want to go on my laptop and listen to music. Since it has just an SSD I don't really want to load it up too much. So I would like to access that music that is on my desktop.
I would like to know how I could possibly do it. Would I have to map a network drive? Or do the shared music folder? Also how secure is it? I would be doing all this under wireless internet that is secured using WPA2-AES I believe.
I need something that can host a VPN server on Windows 7. Not LogMeIn Hamachi or the one hidden in Windows' network connections, neither of those work. I'm looking for a free program.
I would like to install windows server and manage a web site using windos tools rather than Linux. So I am trying to install IIS (Internet information services) on windows seven but when I check the installation by "localhost" in address bar, I have the following error message: Not Found HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found.
run Windows 7 Enterprise in a Server environment. Windows Server 2008 costs more than double, and both OS'es have their own IIS manager for deploying websites.
All the server roles available in Windows Server 2008 will probably not be used. So is there any downside in using Windows 7. Please be thorough in why or why not Windows 7 should be used.
