Upgraded To Windows 7 - Can't Access Old Xp Drive

I recently upgraded my xp system to windows 7 but I did the installation on a new drive. I now have both drives connected and I am trying to copy files from my old drive. However, I am getting an access error "e: is not accessible Access is denied". I can't even see a directory list. I set the ower to me and changed all file ownership to me and it shows I have permissions. But I still can't get into the even at the command prompt.

I am about to buy a new internal hard drive for my laptop, and want to do a clean install of Windows 7. My laptop came with XP, but I did an online upgrade to Windows 7 (student edition) Professional.
How can I create a bootable Windows 7 disk so when I put my new hard drive in my computer, it will setup Windows 7 for me? I also don't have any old XP disks because my laptop didn't come with any.
I looked on my C: Drive but couldnt find any .iso files or anything like that?

I recently upgraded my hard drive on a HP Laptop by cloning the hard drive and replacing it. Everything appeared to work fine until I started to get a pop-up that I was not running Genuine Windows. I contacted Microsoft and re-input the key using SLUI.exe 3 and the next day still got the message. I then did a SLUI.exe 4 validation but still got the error the next day.I am running Windows 7 Home Premim?The report from the MSGDIAG diagnostics tool is posted below.

I recently set up a new Systemax SYX-1113 PC with a SSD (C:) for Win 7 Pro and a 1TB HDD (G:) for my user libraries and programs. I need to upgrade the HDD from a 1GB to a 2 GB drive so I cloned the 1TB (G:) drive to a new 2TB (H:) drive. My new challenge is figuring out how to switch the drive letters on the two HDDs so that Windows looks to the new drive for the user directories and program files. I tried using disk manager in Windows 7 and got the BSOD - I guess it didn't like me changing the location of the active user profile. I assume I need to boot the PC from something other than the C: drive to make the change.

Background: I have a WinXP desktop machine with a hard drive that may have a virus/trojan/rootkit/etc. Normal scans on the WinXP machine with MSE or ThreatFire have not discovered the problem. But the best way to scan a drive is to remove it and treat it as a purely 'dummy' data drive plugged into a usb drive dock and run the scan from a clean machine. This way any infected programs and/or O.S. on the drive will have no control to mask or hide themselves. My other computer is an HP Windows 7 laptop. So I removed the hard drive from the WinXP machine and via the USB drive dock and the Windows 7 laptop saw the WinXP drive icon appear. I'm really hoping I find an answer to this question besides the one I've found on the internet a hundred times over (That's not a good idea, you shouldn't do it).
My question is: Is there a way to allow a user to create/edit files in the C drive (system drive), and in the Program Files contained there? Let's assume that this user is not only a local admin, but a domain admin as well.
The reason for this is I work for a company that does a lot of editing within these areas of Windows. We need to be able to create and edit files where they are stored. I know one way around we've found is to copy the item out of the folder, edit it, and put it back, but this is a pain in the butt.
I also know that most program need to "run as admin", so that's not the problem either. I've given this user every right and permission in the Security tab of the C drive, and had it propagate down through all files, folders, and sub-folders, and still I'm hit with an error that says "Access is Denied" or another one saying that I don't have the right privileges.
Please, if anyone knows how to change this in 7 it would be much appreciated. I know that this worked in XP, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me "this is a bad idea so don't do it", or "maybe it didn't work right in XP". I have seen enough of these.
UPDATE: I have been playing around with saving office and wordpad documents into the C drive, and into the Program files. It seems that I'm able to do both now (for some odd reason), but I still receive intermittent errors when trying to edit or copy/paste or cut/paste from one location to another.

I'm having a problem with my network, which consists of 2 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 PCs.
My Dell laptop is connected through a wireless router to my HTPC and both computers share their Multimedia drives, where the connection worked perfectly in the old school workgroup network setup (no HOMEGROUP). I say workED, right up until a transfer of files from laptop to HTPC got disrupted as the HTPC suddenly crashed. I restarted it, deleted part of the files that got transfered, but now the connection only works one way: HTPC to Laptop.
I've tried every possible solution google gave me, but to no avail... I've tried defragmenting the HTPC disk, tried fixing errors on the disk, tried removing all sharing connections and making new ones... but keep getting the same message "You do not have permission to access \HTPCd". I even tried system restore on the HTPC, which was successful itself, but didn't fix my problem. I have both firewalls and antivirus software off for now. Network discovery is turned on for both computers, they are in the same workgroup. I've tried reseting the router as well.
Can it be that the broken file transfer screwed the HTPC disk up? I can access it without problems from the HTPC itself.

I used Winmail with Vista, had the message about no email client installed with W7,What is best advice here, need to recover all my mail folders.A quick Google shows that Winmail is but hidden, do I mess about and try & enable this? Or is there a better approach.?

I have a Dell 1525, bought in Aug 2008, with 2GB RAM. I recently upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Win 7 32-bit. I am thinking about adding 2GB RAM, for total of 4GB and upgrading to Win 7 64-bit OS.
Can I just upgrade to the 64-bit version using the 64-bit disk that came with my Win 7 upgrade package?
Will it have to be a "clean install"?
Should I add the new RAM before or after changing to the 64-bit version of Win 7?

Will I be able to buy the upgraded version of win7 if I only own full ME and just upgrade XP. When I reloaded XP fresh, it asks for ME disk before I reload XP, Whats OK by me its just hard to tell from the win7 box if upgraded XP is enough to only buy upgraded win7, I'd like to save a buck and buy other PC parts.

I'm currently running a Dell Dimension machine which was purchased with Windows XP (OEM) originally installed on it and has since been upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. Even though the original installation of XP was obviously OEM, when I upgraded to Win 7 did it change to a retail licence key and therefore now allows me to install Win 7 on a new machine that I'm building?The new machine will have components out of the old machine and therefore the old one will not be able to be used, but it will be a different MB, CPU and RAM.

I have a notebook an Acer travelmate TM8372TG-5454G50Mnbb. Windows 7 only. When I try and access the C drive, it says " c: is not accessible Access is denied." When I try and open some other things like CCleaner and MalwareBytes, it says "Windows cannot access C:program files......Check the spelling or there might be a problem with your network....." I have managed to run MalwareBytes (nothing found) & Windows Reg Repair from a USB in safe mode, it didn't work.
I have also run a full scan with Avast (Now Avast doesnt work and is always in unprotected mode). I also noticed in safe mode there is a "repair your computer" option, I tried that and no success either. I have been able to system restore in safe mode but that didn't work either. (I couldn't restore in normal admin mode, it wouldn't let me). I can access the internet ok but cant seem to open anything that needs to run, picture and movie folders are all accessible (but not via the c: drive).

I had a problem with Homegroups on my previous installation of Windows 7 that I could only resolve by reinstalling Windows 7 RC Ultimate. My computer has one hard disk that I partitioned to C: and D:, C: has the operating system and D: has my data. After reinstalling Windows 7, I tried to access D: but I received "Access Denied" error. In computer management, the drive is present, Windows can see it but it cannot access it.

Here is the story. I was running windows 7 ultimate 32 bit version. I decided to install the 64 bit version so i formated my c drive and installed the 64 bit version. All well and good except now i cannot access my d drive. I get a message "access denied". When i was using the 32 bit version i had my d drive permissions set up so that only I, as the administrator could access it and the kids login couldnt. I have gone into the drives properties and made myself the owner but still cannot access it. Also i notice that when looking at the properties it says that the drive it no free space left on it when it actually has about 300 GB left.I have gone into properties and made myself the owner of the drive but the problem is still occuringI have been told the problem is that the permission on the drive were made on the 32 bit install and I and now i am trying to change them in a 64 bit version

External hard drive salvaged from computer running Windows XPEncased, plugged into USB on new computer running (not by choice) Windows 7(Know where this is going?) Given every permission and ownership to new computer to have its way with docs on external drive. Can't copy docs from external drive to new computer even in (basicithout networking) safe mode. I have recently had to ditch my old computer windows xp, and bought a new Dell running windows Hoem repmium 7 (64 bit). I had a 32 bit ide external hard drive and had backed up my files there. Having got the enw copmpouetr set up I am trying to access my archived files on the 32 bit to transfer to new hard disk, but am unable to do so. Windows explorer locks up.

I'm convinced that that is the problem. I have tried EVERYTHING else to get the USB ports to work, but still no luck. They will not recognize any devices that I plug into the computer. Here are the specs (copied from hp.com):

I found a Windows.old file under the C drive, so that's what I figure happened.
Is there any way to make the USB drives work without having to revert to Windows XP? Also, are the ports not working simply because the drivers are not compatible with Win 7, or is there another problem (probably something simple and then I'll feel like an idiot =/ )?

I've installed the Windows 7 upgrade from Vista onto my C drive - I was careful about making sure I didn't do a custom installation because I wanted to keep my files and programs. After the installation - my programs are still installed, the file folders are still there, but the folders on my D drive are empty. My music, photo, video, and document libraries are completely emptyOther threads have said to look in the Windows.old folder but there is no Windows.old folder on my computer. I had a few folders with documents on the desktop that are intact - so why would it delete some files but not others?

I have old Dell laptop XPS M140, and had windows XP as the OS (my laptop has been working fine). Then my husband installed and upgraded the OS to windows 7..it worked just fine for a weeklot until in the last few days, I turned on my laptop and it wont start up anymore.I saw this message 'windows error recovery'..windows failed to start. I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 pro (64 bit) over an XP pro (32 bit) with 2 HD. The install proceeded without any major "hiccups". After the install, I noticed that when I try to access files on the "D" drive --- my second, I get error messages stating "user does not have access". I have tried troubleshooting but to no avail. Really would like to access those files. Both drives "show" NTFS where they were both FAT32 prior to the new OS. I don't understand how I can access the files on the "C" drive but not on the "D" drive. The files that I would most like to access are *.doc and *.pdf.

I have set up a dual boot- Windows 7 pro & XP ultimate, both on separate SSD's, all OK. I also have two 3TB HDD's set up under windows 7 RAID, all OK. In XP under drive management the RAID drives show up twice, once as 775GB unused drives with no drive letter allocated and also as 2.7GB RAID drives with status 'failed', drives marked as 'missing'. Is there a way I can get the RAID drive accessible under XP?

I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and now my Sound Card and Network Adapter don't work. On Device manager is telling me there are no drivers for these.
