View 2 RepliesI've recently upgraded to Windows 7 64bit, from XP 32bit, and since then have been experiancing completely random freezes, like, computer freezes completely, the last half a second of any sound playing repeats, and the PC requires reset, also, I've noticed sometimes when listening to music, the music will pause for only a second, then continue, which is strange. Now these freezes, and hangs, are completely random, I've had it happen 5 minutes after start up, and sometimes it wont happen for 3-4 days. I installed brand new ram along with the upgrade G-Skill F2-6400CL5-2GBNT DDR2 (2Gx2) in the correct DIMM slots Yellow and Yellow. Ran Memtest86+ for 10 hours, no problems and cleared CMOS.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI bought the upgrade Windows 7 Professional and did a custom install over my 32bit windows XP. The instalation/upgrade was perfectly successful. No problems there. I just have a question about the file called WindowsOld that was created when I did the custom instalation. It contains all the old files from XP (none of which I need) and its taking up a lot of space on my hard drive. May I delete this file without messing up windows 7, or are these old windows files necessary to run windows 7? I'd like to get rid of it and I'm afrade of messing things up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 1525, bought in Aug 2008, with 2GB RAM. I recently upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Win 7 32-bit. I am thinking about adding 2GB RAM, for total of 4GB and upgrading to Win 7 64-bit OS.
Can I just upgrade to the 64-bit version using the 64-bit disk that came with my Win 7 upgrade package?
Will it have to be a "clean install"?
Should I add the new RAM before or after changing to the 64-bit version of Win 7?
Will I be able to buy the upgraded version of win7 if I only own full ME and just upgrade XP. When I reloaded XP fresh, it asks for ME disk before I reload XP, Whats OK by me its just hard to tell from the win7 box if upgraded XP is enough to only buy upgraded win7, I'd like to save a buck and buy other PC parts.

Even though the original installation of XP was obviously OEM, when I upgraded to Win 7 did it change to a retail licence key and therefore now allows me to install Win 7 on a new machine that I'm building? The new machine will have components out of the old machine and therefore the old one will not be able to be used, but it will be a different MB, CPU and RAM.

I found a Windows.old file under the C drive, so that's what I figure happened.
Is there any way to make the USB drives work without having to revert to Windows XP? Also, are the ports not working simply because the drivers are not compatible with Win 7, or is there another problem (probably something simple and then I'll feel like an idiot =/ )?
I recently upgraded my xp system to windows 7 but I did the installation on a new drive. I now have both drives connected and I am trying to copy files from my old drive. However, I am getting an access error "e: is not accessible Access is denied". I can't even see a directory list. I set the ower to me and changed all file ownership to me and it shows I have permissions. But I still can't get into the even at the command prompt.

After the installation - my programs are still installed, the file folders are still there, but the folders on my D drive are empty. My music, photo, video, and document libraries are completely emptyOther threads have said to look in the Windows.old folder but there is no Windows.old folder on my computer. I had a few folders with documents on the desktop that are intact - so why would it delete some files but not others?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Home Premium x64 from Vista Home Premium x64 using the Toshiba Windows 7 Laptop Upgrade. I've actually had the choice to upgrade ever since I got the disk around two months ago, but only now did I have enough time to spare to upgrade the system. Anyway, after upgrading to Windows 7, I noticed that my system was noticeably slower than usual. I could open several tabs on Chrome while running other programs on Vista and I would barely lag.
Now, I'm having problems only with a few programs running. I also noticed that my CPU usage was stuck at 100% and it's not going down or anything. My laptop isn't as slow as a rock right now, but something should be causing the processors to be at a constant 100%. My RAM usage is normal. 4 Gigs being used at around 50% right now. I'm just worried that maybe some programs that I had with Vista are slowing down the computer, but I was sure to uninstall or update any incompatible software too.
I'm running on a Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.1Ghz) Processor with 4.00 Gb of RAM. My laptop is around six months old right now.

It has worked always, I was able to get in when out of town, till last week and on the same computer I have used, a laptop, now it does not let me in. The only change was, I have upgraded the laptop with the new Windows 7. I can still get in on my friend computer from outside the network, however he has Windows XP. I have tried other computers, some I can get in with some I cannot. I went to Staples and I cannot get in from there either. Does the new Windows have some new security installed preventing me to get in?

Ever since then occasionally the window 7 start up logo graphic would glitch up and i would get a black screen. at first i thought is was my mobo because that was the most significant change in the system. I've recently had it replaced(same model) and its happening more than ever. I've tested the PSU as well and its been able to hold a mark95 test and a furmark test, going at the same time, so its been ruled out. I've tried swaping out my graphics card but that didn't solve the problem either.

I bought a Netgear wireless router and usb adapter 2 years ago and have not had any problems connecting to the internet until I bought a new computer this week. The only thing I can figure is it has something to do with Windows 7 (my old computer ran Windows XP).
Here is what happens.
1. I plug in the adapter.
2. I connect to the internet
3. After about 30 seconds my connection drops.
Here is what I have done to-date (with no success):
1. Turned off Windows Firewall
2. When in to device properties and turned off option for Windows to turn off device for power savings mode
3. Downloaded and installed most recent driver for device.
What is so puzzling to me is that I can actually connect to the internet for a short period of time. That makes me think the router is alright. Is there something in Windows that would break the connection?
I would like to run a program that uses video. It's an old program that won't run in Windows 7, but ran well in XP. I just upgraded to Windows 7, but still really need this software, so I was hoping it would run in XP Mode. The installation went well. However, it works only up until the point when I load the video. Once I run it and then stop it, the program freezes completely.
This is the computer I have. The only thing different is that Windows Home version was upgraded to Business:
