When I download something, I use my "Downloads" folder in Windows 7 Home Premium and then click on the "New Folder" link in the Save File dialog box. However, I can't rename it from "New Folder" to the name of my choice. I do not get any error message, it just will not rename it.

I am going to set a junction between C:Users on my SSD and F:Users on the HDD where my OS was originally. The instructions I have read indicate that I need to rename the C:Users folder in order to set the junction, since it will not work if there is still a folder named C:Users. However, there is no ""Rename" option available when I right-click on C:Users. In fact, several of the folders in the root directory of C: have no "Rename" option.

If I rename a folder, even a new folder, the name changes ''magically'' within seconds to restore to its previous name. If I move the folder or file, it comes back and if I delete it, it restores. I tried to make a system restore, even format (!), the problem persists. I use this folder to tag and rename my new mp3s so I have to be able to 1) rename, 2) move the folders the files and folders in it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having very bizarre behavior with the folder icon changing when I rename a folder. On my C: drive, I have a folder named mydata. I created it using Google Drive, and renamed it to mydata. The folder at first showed the Google Drive triangle icon, and now shows the recycling arrows on folder icon, showing it needs updating. So far, so good.
I now created a separate folder on my C: drive named "mydata backup". Upon creation of the folder, it gets the google drive icon (recycling arrows). If I create a folder with any other name, it gets the standard folder icon. If I rename a folder to "mydata anything", it immediately takes on the google drive icon! If I rename it to "xmydata anything", it goes back to the normal folder icon!
I doubt that Google Drive is changing the icon, since in theory it doesn't know about a new folder or a folder rename outside of the folder it controls, so I assume the icon change comes from Windows 7 itself. Has anyone seen anything like this? If not, I will go to the Google Drive people and see if they have an answer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i installed is version of win7 ie,Tiny7 Rev01 By experience. After that i tried to rename the drives(partitions) in 'My Computer' the first one ie,C: got renamed but the others r not. When i right clicking the a drive suppose D: & click to rename the edit cursor comes but after clicking OK it stays as 'LOCAL DISK D', but earlier when i installed this same version there was no such problem.
Anyone has any fix? If yes then plzzzz help me guys. Waiting for your response desperatly..
EDIT: One info i forgot to write here ie,I have A dual boot..i have XP installed in a other partition ie,C:..When i rename any partition while logged in win7 it not get renamed as i said but after that if i restart & log in XP then that specific partition which i renamed i win7 shows in XP..Eg:Suppose i renamed the C: as Master in Win7...it stays as local disk as in the sc above...but after that when log in Xp the C: shows as Master...&& in Xp everything is normal..
I have a acer aspire 7750G-6634 laptop, 8gb of ram, 2 HDs, i5, windows 7 home (the one that came with the laptop)?Camtasia created a 50+ gb file on my D drive, I struggled to get the file to work but it seems like it was corrupted (couldn't use it) so I deleted it. Since then I started seeing the green ribbon of death when I was browsing folders on my D. It was always getting worse and worse, until one day I couldn't move/copy/delete any files that was on my D. Then I rebooted and my D drive disappeared?I was able to remove it, 30 minutes in the freezer, then I was able to connect it and save some files (maybe 75% of the files), then can't access it anymore.I bought a new HD from newegg (Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive - OEM) and put the new one to replace the one that died.So far so good, but now I see that green ribbon again, but only on my D and only in my "Downloads" folder, the other folders on the D seems to be fine. I can't delete or modify any files in the Download folder.

In former WinXP I could slowly (!) double click on a folder name on the left side of WinExplorer in the tree view. The folder name could then be renamed. In new Windows 7 the slow double click trick does not work any more. Ok, I could select "rename" from the context menu. However I prefer the slow double click way. Is there a way to enable this feature in Windows 7 as well?

I right click and attempt to rename it with a different file extension, but the 'Rename' box doesn't show up like I believe it should and the file name changes without the warning. I need to do this for the shortcut I've created, not the file on the USB.I have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unchecked and 'Display the full path in the title bar' checked, as I believe they should be.

It's a hard drive that had already had Win 7 Ultimate on it, but I had run into some snafus, so I just re-installed fresh. As you probably already know, Windows 7 detects previous Windows installations and puts it into a folder called "Windows.old". After my new installation was done, this Windows.old folder was pretty big, around 25 gigabytes. From some searching I did, I found out about using Disk Cleanup, and you put a checkmark in the box for Previous Windows installations, and then let the program run its course.

Anyway, every now and then I would get these pop-ups from Microsoft saying its not genuine. He would give me a script to run that would fix it, until it would happen again.Bottom line I foud out later this was pirated software so I purchased a normal copy (win7 pro 64 bit) to do a reinstal of the software, BUTTTTT now I can't do it because I keep getting these errors saying "Windows was unable to create the required instalation folder 0x80070005". I know the last update for the pirated copy was something to remove "RemoveWAT.exe". I tried to do a restore in Win7 to a previous state but it errored "0x80070001"Any advice on what to do. I don't want to have to reformat the whole drive, because this was a dual boot on a new MAC so I could boot in iether MAC or Win7.

The problem is I changed the folder permissions of C:Program Files and C:Program Files (x86) to Deny for all users. These included

Users
I was logged in with an Administrator Account. Now the problem is I cannot access the above folders with any user. All my applications installed in those folders do not work.
I tried several solutions available on the net like changing ownership, using THE Administrator account, etc but to no avail and these folders are still locked.
Is there anyway I can access these files or shall I resort to the ultimate step i.e. re-install windows.

My hard drive is small and this folder literally takes up more than half of it. The error is that I need permission from myself to delete it. I have already looked at many threads and tried to solve this but nothing works. I already have assigned permission and ownership to myself and tried deleting it from safe mode. It theoretically has data from a previous install but I can't access anything in the folder. I just want to get rid of it.

View 4 Replies View Relatedinstalled a program and have moved the app to the start menu but the folder it installed cannot be deleted. when going into programdata/microsoft/windows/startmenu/programs and trying to delete it it gives the error;could not find this item, verify the items location and try again despite this it is always there, every reboot. ive tried taking ownership of the file (i have a menu option to do this) and everything else i can think of it still gives the error!
