View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having very bizarre behavior with the folder icon changing when I rename a folder. On my C: drive, I have a folder named mydata. I created it using Google Drive, and renamed it to mydata. The folder at first showed the Google Drive triangle icon, and now shows the recycling arrows on folder icon, showing it needs updating. So far, so good.
I now created a separate folder on my C: drive named "mydata backup". Upon creation of the folder, it gets the google drive icon (recycling arrows). If I create a folder with any other name, it gets the standard folder icon. If I rename a folder to "mydata anything", it immediately takes on the google drive icon! If I rename it to "xmydata anything", it goes back to the normal folder icon!
I doubt that Google Drive is changing the icon, since in theory it doesn't know about a new folder or a folder rename outside of the folder it controls, so I assume the icon change comes from Windows 7 itself. Has anyone seen anything like this? If not, I will go to the Google Drive people and see if they have an answer.
I have Windows 7 enterprise with all the updates/service packs appliedWhen I try to update directx it complains about not being able to verify the signature of a cabinet file and asks to check the cryptographic services. I googled for that error and all links say to stop cryptographic services and remove thec:windowssystem32catroot2 folderI stopped the cryptographic services and when I try to remove that folder, it removes everything from inside that folder but the actual folder remains and I can't even enter it after thatWhen I try to remove it or take ownership it says the following:c:WindowsSystem32>takeown /f catroot2 /r /d y
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have migrated my Windows 7 OS to a SSD, but my Users folder is too large to migrate. I am going to set a junction between C:Users on my SSD and F:Users on the HDD where my OS was originally. The instructions I have read indicate that I need to rename the C:Users folder in order to set the junction, since it will not work if there is still a folder named C:Users. However, there is no ""Rename" option available when I right-click on C:Users. In fact, several of the folders in the root directory of C: have no "Rename" option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince 2 days, in a certain folder, I cant rename, move or delete folders or files. Now, it has spread to my desktop as well. If I rename a folder, even a new folder, the name changes ''magically'' within seconds to restore to its previous name. If I move the folder or file, it comes back and if I delete it, it restores. I tried to make a system restore, even format (!), the problem persists. I use this folder to tag and rename my new mp3s so I have to be able to 1) rename, 2) move the folders the files and folders in it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a acer aspire 7750G-6634 laptop, 8gb of ram, 2 HDs, i5, windows 7 home (the one that came with the laptop)?Camtasia created a 50+ gb file on my D drive, I struggled to get the file to work but it seems like it was corrupted (couldn't use it) so I deleted it. Since then I started seeing the green ribbon of death when I was browsing folders on my D. It was always getting worse and worse, until one day I couldn't move/copy/delete any files that was on my D. Then I rebooted and my D drive disappeared?I was able to remove it, 30 minutes in the freezer, then I was able to connect it and save some files (maybe 75% of the files), then can't access it anymore.I bought a new HD from newegg (Seagate Momentus ST9750420AS 750GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive - OEM) and put the new one to replace the one that died.So far so good, but now I see that green ribbon again, but only on my D and only in my "Downloads" folder, the other folders on the D seems to be fine. I can't delete or modify any files in the Download folder.
*Scanned with Superantispyware
*Scanned with AVG2012
*Replaced AVG2012 with AVAST (Had issue with AVG before and I read it could be the cause of the issue)
*Scanned with Avast
*Scanned with SlimDrivers and updated the 15 drivers that were out of date
*Scanned with Emergency Kit (scan never finishes scanning, get stuck at 97% on 3 different files on the D drive so far)
*Checkdisk on both drives (C and D) 3 times (when booting the PC) 4-5 hours each time
*Defraged both disks
*Uninstalled Camtasia + many other softwares that I installed when the issue started (approx.)
*Used CCleaner and cleaned the registry and other files
*Tried to use Xplorer2 instead of windows explorer = same issue
In former WinXP I could slowly (!) double click on a folder name on the left side of WinExplorer in the tree view. The folder name could then be renamed. In new Windows 7 the slow double click trick does not work any more. Ok, I could select "rename" from the context menu. However I prefer the slow double click way. Is there a way to enable this feature in Windows 7 as well?
View 1 Replies View Relatedbasically (I'll try to be descriptive), I have an Excel file (extension xlsm) on my USB and I right click it, send to --> desktop (create shortcut). I see the shortcut. I right click and attempt to rename it with a different file extension, but the 'Rename' box doesn't show up like I believe it should and the file name changes without the warning. I need to do this for the shortcut I've created, not the file on the USB.I have 'Hide extensions for known file types' unchecked and 'Display the full path in the title bar' checked, as I believe they should be.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy PC is connected to two monitors, one to EVGA GTX 560 Ti 448, the other to IGP, both with DVI-D. The former is the main, mostly for me, while the other is used for my wife to watch streaming video. This setting has no problem when I do web surfing or work on office, but reveals an issue when I want to play game, because of two different audio sources - streaming video vs. game. First, I enabled multiple streaming device on Realtek Audio Manager, and then set a game, Portal 2 in this case, audio to headphone. But still two audio sources are being played on speaker.
My System:
i5 2400 - HD2000 enabled
MSI H67MA E45 B3 - onboard Realtek HD Audio
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 SP1
A long time ago I filmed a play for my school and had recorded the audio from a sound board of the microphones. Also using a camcorder there is audio from that source as well.
I need to find a way to synchronize the audio from both sources.
What would be the easiest way to do this?
I have a Dell Optiplex 755 that got some malware on it, so we decided to reformat and do a clean install. I booted from my Win7 flash drive, deleted the partitions, and things proceeded normally. When it asks me to name the computer I get "some characters are not valid" no matter what I enter. No possible way I'm entering invalid characters, I'm only using the alphabet!

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy Windows 7 professional install seemed kind of lame after some years so I decided to install a new and clean one. I noted down the product-ID from my computers properties because I thought that was the key (right next to it it says change key, so I thought that must be the key). After the new install I realied that it is not equivalent to the key as the ID has less letters. Is there a chance to get the key from the "old" folder that is generated if you install a new windows over an old one?Or is there a chance to get to the key from the product ID? because I have no clue where I put the key..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a restore point but fatfingered the description and it's bugging me. I want to rename it (the text in the "description" column of the restore point). I know restore points are in the System Volume folder and I deprotected the one for the C: volume to the extent.
I could and tried to recursively grep it in an administrator shell but many files were still "permission denied". Anyone know the exact files where the descriptions of the restore points are located? (I searched the registry without luck, so I assume they're in that directory with the actual data from the restore point.)

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I have this for batch renaming files in a folder:
Dir | rename-item -newname { $_.name -replace "oldname","newname" }
And it works like a charm. The thing I can not figure out how to do is add characters - w/o changing any. So let's say I have 3 files: 1.txt 2.txt and 3.txt - I want to change them to be x1.txt x2.txt and x3.txt
So I try replacing 'replace' with 'add' like this:
Dir | rename-item -newname { $_.name -add "x", }
But it doesn't work. Is this possible, and if so, what I am missing in my command line?

View 12 Replies View RelatedMy computer has been acting a little weird lately. Recently i've downloaded some .mkv files and now i can't rename or delete or move them. I tried using command prompt and unlocker and it's still not working. It says "action can't be completed because it is being opened by other programme", i don't get this as i close all programmes and it still says the same thing.
My main purpose is to actually move them into another folder. It's only these few days that my computer is acting like this. I can move/delete/rename other avi or mp4 files.
I have a .mkv file that when I click on the folder it is in, it restarts windows explorer?? I cant rename or delete it as it crashes straight away.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsually, when you create/rename/delete a file/folder in the directory in Windows Explorer, it will add/renamed/remove automatically without refreshing. However, I have this issue where if you do any of the above, it doesn't refresh until you press F5. I tried to see if its a driver issue by booting into Safe Mode but it didn't work in there.

On my computer I have 3 primary partitions:
1. "System reserve" which contains e.g.the Bootmamanger and MBR
2. First Win 7 installation ("main")
3. Second Win 7 installation ("reserve")
When I boot now at first the Bootmanager on the first primary partition is called/started which in turn starts the boot menu. In the boot menu there are currently two entries:
Windows 7
Windows 7
So I cannot distinguish between the "main" and the "reserve" Win 7 installation. How exactly can I modify/rename the two "Windows 7" entries in boot menu? After selecting and booting the actual Windows 7 installation the other Windows 7 installation is visible as a separate partition in WinExplorer:
C: Running Windows 7
D: DVD drive
E: Other (non-booted) Windows 7
How can I automatically hide the other Windows 7 installation? The drive E: should be available e.g. for USB sticks or network drives.

To install a program in local disk c -> windows folder -> windows subfolder. I read on a site it will work. I will first test it on a virtual maschine, in case you think it won't work. I ran the installation as administrator, that is right click and press run as administrator. Still during installation windows prompted, that it could not install the program in a subfolder to the windows folder because not administrator. And asked for a rerun of the installation as an administrator. It's mine computer, so I'm administrator. How do I install the program in the described subfolder?
