I can't play dvd's when I connect my laptop (HP dv7 series, Windows 7 Pro x64) to a TV (a Toshiba I think) via HDMI. If I disconnect the HDMI-cable I can play dvd's in both WMP and VLC as normal. When I connect the HDMI-cable I can see my desktop on the TV but I can't play dvd's in neither WMP nor VLC. Both WMP and VLC acts as if the dvd's are a corrupt or unsupported file, except for the lack of a warning.

When I plug in into the TV via it's HDMI port, it does not play back the premium channels recordings. This is the message. "Display Driver Error - The video playback device does not support playback of protected content."
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use a 23" LCD monitor, and for the longest time I used VGA.. I tried using HDMI but for some reason there was black bars around the screen and the quality was bad.. I was messing around in the Catalyst Control Center and I found the scaling options and VOILA I can now use the HDMI on a nice 1920x1080 resolution.. the only problem was in games when I WASNT using 1920x1080 there would be black bars.. If I used 1920x1080 in games it would be fine I am just curious how to fix this..

It turned out to be an image settings preference that I hadn't set properly. In my attempt to fix the problem however I did a clean install of drivers and updated to v301.42.
Since I installed the new driver none of my games would start (NBA 2K12, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim etc.) and simply go to a black windowed screen. Skyrim tells me that 'Your display doesn't support the selected resolution'. However, I am using the native resolution (1680x1050) for my monitor.

i copied from the old PC don't work on the new one! I't says that can not play that file type / unknown file type. I have Shark007 codecs installed for Windows 7-64 and the latest drives both for motherborad / graphics. I'm using an HDMI to HDMI cable, and like I said the video is fine. Also, when the cable is plugged into my boyfriend's laptop, the sound comes out of the TV.
So this must mean the problem is with my computer specifically. Although, this computer is only a month old, so I wouldn't think anything is out of date.

I tested the cable with the blue ray player and it works fine. I called Dell (still under warranty) an they were useless.I've checked the settings on the PC and I have it set to "extended" so I can see the monitor on both....no luck. Is it a setting on the TV that I am missing?
