Jul 26, 2012Ive had this laptop maybe 1 month it has a 1 year warrany, my issue is it seems to be blue screening non stop, generally when i open games, i was on D3/WOW when it happens the screen goes blue and says windows has experienced an unexpected error blabla.It did stop doing it for about 2 weeks however its doing it again today however now its got a different error saying DRIVERPOWR_STATE_FAILURE when i get the BSOD. i can also hear a fan in the computer maybe the gfx card?THe bug check code was 0x00000116 the first 3 times howevr now its 0x0000009f here is the BSOD from BlueScreenView:

Feb 19, 2011I can't play dvd's when I connect my laptop (HP dv7 series, Windows 7 Pro x64) to a TV (a Toshiba I think) via HDMI. If I disconnect the HDMI-cable I can play dvd's in both WMP and VLC as normal. When I connect the HDMI-cable I can see my desktop on the TV but I can't play dvd's in neither WMP nor VLC. Both WMP and VLC acts as if the dvd's are a corrupt or unsupported file, except for the lack of a warning.

Feb 28, 2012my computer has Windows XP 32-bit, and i'm trying to do a clean install to Windows 7 64-bit. this is my processor. i'm assuming it can take the 64-bit version. i boot from the disc, press any key, and all the files load and whatnot. i see a screen that says "starting windows", and the logo appears. i figure that's a good sign. but...after that, i get stuck on a screen with nothing but some "desktop wallpaper" and my mouse. it just sits there. i can move my mouse around, but no installation options pop up. i bought the upgrade version of Windows 7, and i'm under the impression that you should be able to do a clean install using those discs. i stuck the 32-bit disc in my drive, and the install menu showed up no problem. but i want to install the 64-bit version.

Aug 16, 2010I am trying to perform a clean/custom install of Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my VAIO SZ-650N. I have the upgrade disc and though its primary purpose is to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7, it is confirmed to work with clean installs as well. Since I want to perform a clean install, I must boot the installation from the disc and not within the OS. The problem is that when I insert the disc into the drive and start up the computer, it'll pause for a moment longer than usual, as if it detects that the CD is there, like I can hear the disc spinning in the drive, and this little gray underscore will blink on the screen, but it will never give me the "Press any key to boot from CD" message and it'll eventually just load up my OS.The disc is in perfect condition and I can view its contents and run it from within the operating system...I just can't boot from it. Even the directions for clean/custom installs that come with this disc say that it must be done from the disc, not when the OS is loaded. The problem can't possibly be my BIOS startup order, because first of all the disc drive is selected to load first thing and when I insert other bootable CD's such as my beta copy of Windows 7, I can boot from it fine.
Edit: It will not let me do a custom install from within the OS regardless because it is unable to detect any drives/partitions to install Windows 7 onto. And the "advanced" option isn't there...I'm guessing because it's impossible to wipe the drive clean when the OS is already loaded.
Unable To Boot Without A Bootable Disc In The Drive
Jul 18, 2009I have two HD drives, one SATA and one IDE, plus one SATA CD/DVD drive. Firstly I used to have XP on the SATA and Windows 7 on the IDE, but the IDE drive is smaller and slower and I wanted to essentially swap them over. The boot devices are set in the bios as CD/DVD first, SATA second, IDE third.
So I have installed XP first on the IDE and now Windows 7 on the SATA, but after I removed the Windows 7 DVD and restarted it is refusing to boot saying NO BOOT DEVICE DETECTED, INSERT SYSTEM DISK. Now if I place the Windows 7 dvd in the drive and ignore the PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD/DVD...., it will book fine.
This will surely fustrate non-technical users no end and some may not even think to try and replace the OS disk and try again. I think I know what has happened, but more importantly how do I go and fix it to just boot without needing a damn boot disk everytime!?

Jul 4, 2012I recently had a problem with my games (found in the thread here) that involved the games lagging badly. It turned out to be an image settings preference that I hadn't set properly. In my attempt to fix the problem however I did a clean install of drivers and updated to v301.42.
Since I installed the new driver none of my games would start (NBA 2K12, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim etc.) and simply go to a black windowed screen. Skyrim tells me that 'Your display doesn't support the selected resolution'. However, I am using the native resolution (1680x1050) for my monitor.

Dec 18, 2009I have a major issue, I had a Pentium 4/2.8 at 32 bit's with XP SP3, and i just bought a new PC (Intel i7-860 / Windows 7 Ultimate 64 / ATI HD 5770 / ASUS P7P55D Pro / 8Gb Ram / Maxtor 500 Gb - 7200 Rpm). It happens that all (no excepcions) the media files (mp2/mp3/aac/wav etc..)
i copied from the old PC don't work on the new one! I't says that can not play that file type / unknown file type. I have Shark007 codecs installed for Windows 7-64 and the latest drives both for motherborad / graphics. I moved to 64 bit because i use heavy software (Inventor), but if i can't solve this issue i think i'll be back on 32 bits…
