About 2 days ago I noticed that all of a sudden my scroll and progress bars, and all of the prompt windows (save, open file, etc.) changed to a Windows 98 style! I didn't think anything of it until I tried to save an image through Firefox and it wouldn't bring up the prompt to choose a location. Initially I thought it to be exclusive to Firefox, but later I had worked on an Word document and when I tried to Save As... the exact same thing, a flash indicating that it tried to open the location window and that's it. Every program does the exact same thing, no way to bring up a location menu or change directory.
Installation Can't change boot directory. When I try installing windows 7, it gets to the end and says that it can't change boot files, so the installation cannot continue.
Is there a way to change the directory that automatically opens when opening explorer? Instead of having libraries come up I want to have my home folder.
I'm in the habit of making a backup of files before changing them. To keep track of each version of a file, I make a copy and then rename it to include the last modified date. For example, if I'm going to edit bozo.html, I'll make a copy of the file (in the same directory) and rename it to bozo.2010.05.12.html . In Windows Explorer in Windows 7, if I right click on a file and drag and drop it in the same directory, I get a menu from which I select 'Copy here'. A copy of the file is created with the name 'bozo - Copy.html'. Is there any way to change this function to use the modified date of the file instead of ' - Copy' ?
I am running Windows 7 with Media Center on a HTPC, and all the media/content is stored on a NAS. Because this PC is used by kids and guests, it has a READ-ONLY access to my NAS and its content. However, I noticed that each time I access the music folder, windows starts (again!) to build the album art library for each song I have (my NAS has A LOT of content). Same goes for all our pictures? When we first access the pictures (after a reboot?) Media Center has to REBUILD the thumbnail for EACH PICTURE. This takes a lot of time.I could be wrong, but I think that the problem is that the PC tries to write the thumbnails and album art in each directory on the NAS, and obviously is denied writing rights. What I would like to do is have Media Center cache those thumbnails and album arts LOCALLY, so that it doesn't have to rebuild them each time.
I have Windows, Adobe CS6 and a few other things installed on my SSD, which is C. But it only has 120GB so I can't install all my software on it so I want the rest of my software to be installed on my 2TB drive, which is F. I followed various tutorials on how to edit the registry. I am running Windows 7 Home (64-bit) so I edited the 64-bit version of regedit. That didn't work. It was still installing programs into my C drive. So I edited both regular regedit and 64-bit regedit and now certain programs don't work, such as Windows Media Player. Is there a way to do this correctly? I was thinking of switching drive letters in BIOS, but one, I don't know how to do that, two, it would probably create a bigger mess. I know Windows 7 "wants" to be on the C drive.[CODE]
If I run the setup of new program I recently get this error message more and more: Setup was unable to create the directory "C:usersgebrui~1AppDatalocalemp.... Error 5: Acces denied."I looked quite a while around the internet and found some people with exactly the same problem but the solutions didnt work out for me. I tried turning AUC both on and off, I tried running the file as admin (My account is admin also), I even tried to install it with my virus scanner turned off but nothing seems to work?
I have encounter a problem where my "Active directory users and computer" function suddenly unable to connect to my remote server. I have run a nslookup and below are the reply
I confirm it is not the next work issue because in the same network there is few more PC running windows 7 and XP, they don't have the problem as I mention. I also have a virtual XP running in the notebook that I am using, So I try to install the adminpak and run the Active directory users and computer and what a surprise it work. I have try to reformat the notebook and the problem still occur after I use it...
I tired of reformatting. Update on the troubleshooting of the problem I am encountering, I find out that the windows 7 that I am running is not able to resolve any PC name on my network. I am mentioning this because went I am using the virtual machine install in the notebook (Win XP) to remote desktop to other PC using the desktop name it is working fine.
I open the WIndows 7 file manager by right-clicking on the start button and then choosing Open Windows Explorer. It always defaults to Libraries, but I would rather it defaulted to C: Is there a way to change this?
My assignment is to develop a batch file that our logon script can call on to satisfy the following condition:
If the User Information for Office 2010(HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo) equals the local admin default "UserInfo" then
go to ldap/active directory and, using the client's "logon name", find the client in ldap and use their "Display Name" as the value for the String "UserName" in HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOfficeCommonUserInfo I found this bit of code to get me started... but this code doesn't "call out to active directory"
I have Dell 15r, which runs on win 7 home basic, i recently started using toshiba hard disk,i have some files in the external hard disk when i try to move them or delete them i will get this kind of error message. Error : 0x80070570 The file or Directory is corrupted and unreadable.
recently i've been having a problem when trying to move ISO files from one harddrive to another. I've tried with 3 different ISO files and all come up with the same error:"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."First time I got this error i just thought something had gone wrong with the download so i deleted the file and downloaded it again. Same problem. This made me think that maybe it was just that download but now I have tried 2 other files and gotten the same error every time. This only happens with ISO files though as in case it was the harddrive or connection issue I tried transferring some other .avi files and they went across without problem.
I am a moron and I messed up the disk partitions on my laptop. I was tryin to increase my Cdisk space by allocating the free disk space from my D. I used this software called "partition magic" and just when everything was going smooth..some error occured and the partition did not take place..to make things worse..I can't acces my D, The error message says "D: is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."No clue what to do..I NEED to recover my data from my D drive..What should I do?
I got pop up in utorrent says a directory is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. In this case in have drive letter E. I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now. It says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidentally closed because I was switching between several programs.
I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.' I tried to start pc 2 times, still same. I downloaded Partition Wizard Home Edition (minitool partition wizard home edition 5.2) and running it, it showing my files are still in the drive, but not accessible in windows. I also run chkdsk in recovery environment, but still says disk is corrupt, chkdsk cannot continue.
I require a batch file or free utility that i can redistribute from my web site to other users, (gamers) that will copy the contents of a directory inside their game to a new location and re-name the directory at the same time. Something like this; Copy "GenesisVehicleruck diesel4tonbaker"to "GenesisVehicleruckdiesel4tonbutcher".The batch file needs to be run without the need for a command line box being opened, that is, if the user can double click on it or run it with a 'right click' that would be great. Problem there is, I maybe need an exe file not a batch file. The other part of the problem is that the folder to be copied may or may not be in the same location on every PC that runs the file. It may be the case that the 4tonbaker folder is on; [code] and I require the end user to have no need to know, just for the directory to be copied and renamed when and where it is found. If possible I then want the batch file to perform a second task. I want to distribute a folder, lets say it is 4tonbutcher and in that folder there are files lets say doc1.txt, doc2.txt and doc3.txt.On any given users PC 4tonbaker has these same named files but the content is different to the ones in my folder 4tonbutcher, I want to update the newly created folder, 4tonbutcher with the new txt files I distribute.
So, User downloads a folder called 4tonbutcher from my site.Batch file copies and renames a folder from a location on the users PC, "Genesis Vehiclesruckdiesel4tonbaker" to "Genesis Vehiclesruckdiesel4tonbutcher".Batch file copies doc1.txt, doc2.txt and doc3.txt from the downloaded folder to the newly created folder 4tonbutcher.
"windows photo viewer can't open this picture because either photo viewer doesn't support this file format or you don't have the latest updates to photo viewer".im trying to save pics in jpg format from a site that i have saved pics from many times before without any issues but when i click on the saved pic i get that message. actually even the thumbnail looks different. it looks like some default blue & green image on the thumbnail.
I have a new Windows 7 laptop from my work. I can open files (Word, Excel, Adobe and so on) on the server but when I try to save them it seems to be hit and miss. Most of the time I get a flag that says the file can't be saved because it is in use already. I can usually save it to my HD by renaming it but this is inconvenient

I had this OLD password that I had set. During this time I had that password I did use windows' system image utility to backup my old 500GB drive to restore it on a 1TB drive and I did that while I had this password. Now, when I try to change the password it will not save the change. When I change it, I can logout and it will accept the NEW password, but once I reboot or shut down and it comes back up, it only accepts the OLD password.
When I open a windows office file from the internet (Word or Powerpoint) and I then I go to save it via "save as", it automatically opens the temp file as the save destination, not the folder I most recently had open, or the folder where I've saved the previous 20 files I've downloaded.
Is there a way to direct the default save file to open not as temp but as what I want it to?
Today I bought an HDMI cable in order to have a dual monitor with my lg 42 inch tv. I updated my drivers and tried unplugging, restarting, etc. Under my control panel when I tell it to extend it will say unable to save display settings. I run a radeon 6950?
I run Windows 7 as an administrator but recently I have lost the ability to save files on my desktop or other library locations. I receive the following message:"You do not have permission to save in this location Contact the Administrator to obtain permission Would you like to save in the My Documents folder instead?"
