View 3 Replies"windows 7 setup.exe corrupt file the file or directory is corrupt"I'm trying to install 7 32bit OEM Home Premium with the legit bought holographic CD (not a burned image of any kind) onto a Gateway laptop with a brand new hard drive.I was getting this error installing the OS the regular way booting to the cd and installing from it, so instead I copied the contents of the cd to a freshly quick formatted NTFS partition on the new laptop hard drive, then used bootsect and diskpart to setup the disk. It boots just fine and also gets the same error installing straight from the hard drive.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using Corsair SSD as Windows 7 x64 boot drive, and I moved both User & System Variables TMP/TEMP directory to a new common TMP directory in another hdd (Drive D) & also disabled pagefile on my boot drive (but enabled it for Drive D).
Question is, what happens if I take off my hdd (Drive D and Windows 7 / applications need a temporary directory which doesn't exist anymore ? Will Windows 7 be smart enough to create a new temp dir in the original location ? I wonder if the dependancy on the hdd as TMP directory becomes critical.
About pagefile, I understand Windows 7 needs a min pagefile of 400MB on boot drive to allow memory dump. What happens if I disable pagefile on boot drive & enable it on another drive ? Will memory dump work ?
My 300gb HD is filling up and I've determined something is creating huge (80-150gb) temp files.I delete them and they come back a few days later.I haven't installed any new programs except a few Topaz Photoshop plugins so I can't figure out what is making this huge file.Any ideas of how I can isolate the problem or limit the size of temp files?

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy computer is shutting down periodically. This just started today, and it has happened twice now. What noticed when I rebooted was that the CPU temperature was at 90C. Now I know that isn't safe, so I am assuming that the overheating is causing the PC to shut down. Is that a correct assessment? So I opened my case up and layed it on the hard floor. CPU temp according to two different utilities (Core Temp and Speccy) is fluctuating between 24C and 25C. Everything seems very stable now.I ran Avast, but nothing came up. I also made sure that all of the fans are operating, and they are. PSU fan, CPU, etc are all running.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAbout 2 days ago I noticed that all of a sudden my scroll and progress bars, and all of the prompt windows (save, open file, etc.) changed to a Windows 98 style! I didn't think anything of it until I tried to save an image through Firefox and it wouldn't bring up the prompt to choose a location. Initially I thought it to be exclusive to Firefox, but later I had worked on an Word document and when I tried to Save As... the exact same thing, a flash indicating that it tried to open the location window and that's it. Every program does the exact same thing, no way to bring up a location menu or change directory.

The program's System Tray icon remains in the tray, but when using it to select "show", it opens a rather drab Windows like display, instead of it's usual one. Rebooting doesn't solve it, and going through the ini, I see nothing that appears to be for the purpose. How do I return it to it's previous behavior?

I have Dell 15r, which runs on win 7 home basic, i recently started using toshiba hard disk,i have some files in the external hard disk when i try to move them or delete them i will get this kind of error message. Error : 0x80070570 The file or Directory is corrupted and unreadable.
View 1 Replies View Relatedrecently i've been having a problem when trying to move ISO files from one harddrive to another. I've tried with 3 different ISO files and all come up with the same error:"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."First time I got this error i just thought something had gone wrong with the download so i deleted the file and downloaded it again. Same problem. This made me think that maybe it was just that download but now I have tried 2 other files and gotten the same error every time. This only happens with ISO files though as in case it was the harddrive or connection issue I tried transferring some other .avi files and they went across without problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got pop up in utorrent says a directory is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. In this case in have drive letter E. I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now. It says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidentally closed because I was switching between several programs.
I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.' I tried to start pc 2 times, still same. I downloaded Partition Wizard Home Edition (minitool partition wizard home edition 5.2) and running it, it showing my files are still in the drive, but not accessible in windows. I also run chkdsk in recovery environment, but still says disk is corrupt, chkdsk cannot continue.
I require a batch file or free utility that i can redistribute from my web site to other users, (gamers) that will copy the contents of a directory inside their game to a new location and re-name the directory at the same time. Something like this; Copy "GenesisVehicleruck diesel4tonbaker"to "GenesisVehicleruckdiesel4tonbutcher".The batch file needs to be run without the need for a command line box being opened, that is, if the user can double click on it or run it with a 'right click' that would be great. Problem there is, I maybe need an exe file not a batch file. The other part of the problem is that the folder to be copied may or may not be in the same location on every PC that runs the file. It may be the case that the 4tonbaker folder is on; [code] and I require the end user to have no need to know, just for the directory to be copied and renamed when and where it is found. If possible I then want the batch file to perform a second task. I want to distribute a folder, lets say it is 4tonbutcher and in that folder there are files lets say doc1.txt, doc2.txt and doc3.txt.On any given users PC 4tonbaker has these same named files but the content is different to the ones in my folder 4tonbutcher, I want to update the newly created folder, 4tonbutcher with the new txt files I distribute.
So, User downloads a folder called 4tonbutcher from my site.Batch file copies and renames a folder from a location on the users PC, "Genesis Vehiclesruckdiesel4tonbaker" to "Genesis Vehiclesruckdiesel4tonbutcher".Batch file copies doc1.txt, doc2.txt and doc3.txt from the downloaded folder to the newly created folder 4tonbutcher.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFor what ever reason, I have a file on my 1TB WDC drive:
D:usersuser_namedocumentsxxxxx.pdf
that upon trying to open it, I receive a message that the file is corrupt.I have looked high and low trying to find a way to DELETE this file, but to no avail. There's lot of references about running CHKDSK to check the drive, running FSUTIL to query the dirty bit (which is set on this drive, because of this file), and using CHKDSK to clear the dirty-bit. And, I tried them all. This, however, is NOT a hard drive issue. The drive is fine. It's the file structure that is in error. I just need a solution that will let me DELETE the file. I don't want recover it.
1. Use Paragon-Software Hard Disk Manager 12 to copy the hard drive to another drive. The second drive is large enough to hold all the data from the larger drive.
2. Check the file on the drive copy... (yep, it's there... yep, it's corrupt... yep, the dirty-bit is on)
3. Create a filter in Paragon-Software HDM12 for that specific file.
4. Run the disk copy again using the filter.
5. Check the file on the drive copy... (this time the file is not there and the dirty bit is not set)
Having done this, I think I'm ready to copy the hard drive back. I just haven't pulled the trigger. I want to recable the drives to use the copy just to make sure I can reach everything. Then, I'll pull the trigger.
I have a brand new computer running Windows Home Premium 7, 64 bit. My mouse will not behave. As an example, when I left click nothing happens and I must right click and then select 'open' or 'open link' from a pull down menu. I think something must be corrupted but I don't know how to fix it.

View 7 Replies View RelatedLast night, my computer rebooted itself unexpectedly while I was accessing a Word document. I was constantly saving the document, so I expected that it would come back up when the computer rebooted. Every time I try to open it in Word, it says that the file is corrupt and cannot be read. I have tried the Open & Repair function. I have also tried the Extract Text from All Files function. When I did the latter, the document came up to about 1,000 pages worth of different codes. When I open it in WordPad, the most recent things I saved did not come up. I am absolutely sure that I saved what I was working on. Is there any way I can fix this corrupt file? It is a crucial part of an assignment.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is one specific folder in the Documents library, which when opened directly (like from a shortcut on the dekstop) only shows "corrupted" files with unusable strings for all file names and extensions. However, when opened in tree view, the files appear as they should. So at least it's reassuring that the folder contents are still there and can properly be read and changed. But the issue is still inconvenient and worrisome.I have already tried chkdsk /f on the partition and even mirrored the whole volume to a new harddrive, but that didn't help. I also tried copying the whole folder to another location, it shows up just fine that way as well.
