I want to install Windows 7 home premium and got the ISO done with windows 7 usb download tool and unetbootin. When i try booting the USB i get "ntdlr is missing or corrupt press ctrl alt delete to restart"
I swiped the whole HD so there is no current partition on it. The usb is new and fat32 formatted with the 3GB windows 7 iso imgage on it..
So I recently upgraded from windows xp to windows7, I went about installing well the wrong way. I Installed windows 7 from the downloaded file onto a empty hard drive I had attached to my computer. I did this all while xp was still running. Anyway it worked and windows 7 always booted up and worked just fine. But NOW!! I removed the attached hard drive where xp was installed and I try to use win 7 but it says NTLDR is missing at startup

Afterwards I installed Win7 on 1st Partition of Disk 0 & checked the system booting/working in Win7 perfectly but now I can't acces my Winxp. Whenever I try to boot from Disk 1 it gives a message "NTDLR missing".

So I downloaded the windows 7 repair files from one website and tried to fix it, but I failed and now I wanted to know is there any other way I can fix using command prompt or will I just have to reinstall windows 7.

Windows 7 boots everytime (after i manually select it) when the PATA is connected. Once i remove the PATA, change the boot order from it to the SSD - NTLDR Missing. I want to remove the PATA drive from my system but it wont load the 7 without the XP

I'm familiar with the process for resurrecting XP, but not its counterpart for Windows 7 the files and steps for doing this are rather different. it would seem that pretty much everything else is in place on the hard disk, but certain recovery programs report "0" Windows installations when Win 7 is still in place where it was before the disk problem, e.g. it is available to be selected by the main recovery/startup program...this prog can "see" it, but can't access/boot it.I can breathe some life into this anaesthetised device sooner rather than later...I may as well work my way through the whole lot rather than using a trial and error method that might take a long time.

have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6980 Windows 7 Home Edition Premium Edition laptop. I recently tried to dual boot with Windows XP Professional service pack 3 iso cd. I partitioned my primary windows 7 drive and installed the windows xp on the smaller partition. Tried fixboot & fixmbr... They worked but rebuildbcd never finishes.
I have 3 physical hard drives, we'll call them A, B, and C. Hard Drive A has a partition for Windows 7, a NTFS partition for storage, a EXT3 (Linux), and swap (Linux). Hard Drive B has 1 NTFS for storage. Hard Drive C has 1 NTFS for storage. I am trying to replace Hard Drive B (with nothing related to Windows 7 on it) and when I try to boot into Windows with my new blank drive installed I get "NTLDR is missing." From what I've read NTLDR was only used up to Windows XP. The drive I am trying to remove isn't even associated with Windows 7 anyway. When I put Drive B back in everything works fine again. why I cant remove drive B even though it has nothing to do with the physical or logical drive containing Windows 7?

I have an Acer Aspire one. It came with XP and I have it dual booting into Windows 7 which is working well which I installed from a USB Drive as this model doesnt have a CD Drive.
In the main boot screen it says "Earlier version of Windows" For XP and "Windows 7" for windows 7. All was working well until yesterday...
Now I can't boot into "Earlier version of Windows" i.e. XP. It gives me the C:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt message. I can boot into Windows 7 fine but all of my work stuff is on the XP platform (I know I can access the files from "7" but I need to get it operational again).
Any ideas? Can I do a repair from the USB Drive?..I've tried a couple of things to boot from the USB Drive but to no avail. And I can't find the BOOT.INI file from XP (I think it gets moved to Windows 7's hidden boot partition when I installed it. I cant seem to access that partition either).

View 14 Replies View RelatedHad a dual-boot system (Win 7 on drive 1, XP on drive 2) installed. Got an NTLDR is missing error on the primary WD drive on which Win 7 was installed. XP wouldn't boot either because the MBR is on the primary drive. So, I had to reinstall XP and all the software on the 2nd drive and test in original and another computer. Worked fine. When plugged into the motherboard, the Win 7 eSATA drive is not recognized by either of the 2 computers in the BIOS. It won't boot and I can't even look at the drive to see the contents - it's a non-entity as far as Windows is concerned. I plugged it into a Mac with an external eSATA to USB adapter and the Mac saw the drive but said that it was unreadable and asked if I wanted to format the drive. Since I thought I might want to try to recover files, I didn't. Anyway to see the contents of this drive with Windows and recover them or does it seem to be dead from the description?

Problem I was having once I completed my new build with old system parts was as listed in title. It started out as select proper boot device, and now it states ntldr is missing. From what I have been reading it seems as if my partition with my windows 7 install is not set active. I do not have my windows 7 DVD only my old vista DVD. I tried to boot into it to make use of CMD and attempt to make my partition active but I was unsuccessful to even get into CMD. I went into bios and forced booted from the drive with the OS and still same error, also I attempted to disable the other sata and run the computer again with no success also. Look forward to hearing from someone soon. I will be sitting by my laptop all night until this computer gets running.
I've just recieved Windows 7 Ultimate but when I try and boot it from the CD it comes up with the error message'NTLDR is missing press ctrl alt del to restart'.The confusing part of this is that I've not yet installed the OS, this is after I select which drive to boot from, but before the Install page comes up.I've also tried installing from my current Windows XP OS, but when I do so it comes up with the error code 0x80070490 ~ which means it can't 'Find a location to store temporary installation files.'[code] It's not a matter of me burning a bad .iso file as I bought the DVDs whole from Microsoft, so I neither downloaded or burnt them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 again after a couple months on XP, and I was just getting everything moved and copied from my secondary hard drive which stores my Acronis backups, and all of my data.The last thing I did was install Acronis, which wanted me to restart my PC. No problem, it worked just fine. Made a backup, and turned on Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM)... Everything worked perfect until I restarted for some reason, I don't remember what it was... I got NTLDR Is Missing, press Alt+Ctrl+Del to restart So I did, and it came up again, and couldn't find a way to fix it...Even trying to use "fixmbr" from a Win2000 disc's console didn't work, which usually, it fixes things like that.... I set it down for the night...Woke up, and had the strange idea of unplugging and removing the hard drive that contains my data files and Acronis Secure Zone.... And wow, It worked...how can I plug my hard drive back in and be able to boot up? Remove Acronis? Turn off ASRM?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI used Active @ KillDisk to wipe the hard drive completely clean on a machine that was running Windows 7. After ejecting the Active @ disc, I restarted the machine with the Windows 7 disc in the cd/dvd drive, after already having changed the boot order to boot from the cd/dvd drive, and recieved the infamous "NTLDR is missing Press CNTRL + ALT + DEL" message.
I've tried multiple Windows discs (Xp, Vista, AND 7) to no avail. Still receiving the same error message. I can't even get to the stage of being able to run the Windows repair.
where are the ntldr, boot.ini files located in windows 7, and windows vista? if there are no boot ini, where is the boot loader found in the c drive? do not need to know about bcdedit. i just need to know location of the ntldr file of windows 7 and vista. or any other files related to boot loading and startup.

Restarted the computer and it wouldn't start up again, came up with a bunch of errors. So I reformatted and it says "windowssystem32driverwdf0100.sdf is corrupt or missing." I've tried system repair but it won't work. It won't open command prompt or anything.

2. Hardware passes Windows 7 compatibility test.
3. The install DVD can be read properly. Creating an ISO image of it works perfectly. No read errors on the disk itself.
4. The optical drive is practically brand new, the cable is brand new, never had any I/O errors using this drive.
5. RAM passes MS memory testing 6 times. 0 errors.
6. Windows 7 Ultimate install fails at the same point, during file unpacking, 3 times. Says files are missing or corrupt.
The install disk was created at home from an ISO download, student licensed Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit but I don't think that really matters. See #3.Is there anything else left to look at? Any ideas why this won't work?

View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently installed Windows 7 64 bit on my main hdd (had previously had it installed as 32 bit). Now my back-up drive gives me this error. The back up drive does not have windows installed on it, and is not a boot drive. But when it is connected I get this message: "Windows root system32 ntoskrnl exe missing or corrupt." In order to boot on my main drive, I have to disconnect the back up drive.
I don't understand where to reinstall the missing file - if I put it in the Windows 7 files, won't that mess up my main drive?
I recently upgraded from WinXP x32 to Win7 Ultimate x64 and kept getting the:"Windows rootsystem32 toskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt" when attempting to boot.
My system:
CPU: Core2 Quad Q8300
Hard Drives:
Primary (System) = Western Digital 300GB 10,000rpm
Secondary (Data) = Western Digital 1T-GB 7,200rpm
*External cloned CasperXP backups for BOTH on matching HDs -- However the backup Sys HD is still configured w/WinXP x32 until I can get all problems ironed out.
Problem Discovered:Upon booting the OS is pointing to the Secondary HD as Primary,however, once booted the C: drive is indeed the intended 300GB and Secondary is the 1T-GB HD.
How Discovered:I needed to relaunch the OLD XP system to access some old Firefox Bookmarks so replaced Sys HDs. Had to reconfigure boot sequence to get OLD x32 OS HD to boot (successful). Saved Bookmarks and shut down. Replaced the Old x32 Sys HD with the New x64 Win7 OS HD. Then got the above error repeatedly. Played with boot settings and BIOS settings for an hour before identifying that the x64 Win7 OS would ONLY boot with the Secondary Data HD listed as the Primary Boot Device. Do note that the OS files are all on the 300GB Primary even as the boot sequence points to the secondary HD.
QUESTION:Is it possible to correct this situation WITHOUT having to do a clean install of Win7 x64 with the 1T-GB Secondary Data Drive disconnected, in other words doing a clean install with ONLY the 300GB Primary connected?
when i turn on my acer laptop all it does is show a error massage saying windows could not start because bootvill.dll file is missing or corrupt. i dont have a cd-rom because it a notebook. i downloaded a regeristy cleaner to a flash drive but when i put it in the pc still goes to that error massage i also change the boot order to start from my flash drive but it still when back to the error screen . i used the alt + f10 that gotten me into the system restore it when half way done than whent back to the error screen anything else i can try?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently setup a raid 0+1 array on a computer with 4 identical hard drives. I installed windows 7 and the installation without a hitch. However on the reboot a windows error message appears and says the following:
File: \Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Status: 0xc0000221
Info: Windows failed to load because the kernel is missing, or corrupt.
I have tried many things in an attempt to resolve this issue. I have tried reinstalling, using a different DVD drive and removing the RAID array to no avail. I have also disconnected the hard drive which is not associated with the RAID array also to no avail.
Just got all the parts yesterday, put i all together today, all is running fine.Just in case i'll post the components:

So i bought Windows 7 Home Premium from the same store i got this at (Webhallen, pretty much swedens largest component retailer) to replace the standard Home edition (which i got with my "old" packard bell!).
I have 2 HDDs, one from the packard bell (1tb) and one i recieved from a friend, a 320gb seagate. I ran with both in my packard bell for a while, using the 320gb for the system. It ran without any problems.So, i boot the CD, go through the setup and format the 320GB. (I also formatted some reserved space for OEM files from the Packard bell harddrive since i won't be using the packard bell any time soon).I proceed with the installation.The copying of the files goes very quick and when it reaches the expanding of files it takes ages before it finally comes to the error:Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017.Immedieatly i whipped up the laptop and googled it, trying the different "sollutions" to no avail, like simply trying to install again without rebooting, taking out a RAM stick and only running with one in the master slot, taking out all excess Harddrives etc etc. i also ran Memtest86, clean, no errors!
I tried install Ubuntu on it, but that didn't go well either. It loaded for ages and then i got a very strange horizontal black and white striped screen, the black stripes being jagged and pixelated.I found my old windows 7 home cd from my packard bell and tried installing with that one. Same result, Error code: 0x80070017.
