USB Hub Crashes
I have an odd problem with Windows 7 that I can fix
If I have my USB hub (and external USB drive) plugged in to my laptop when I shutdown, the PC crashes and restarts, so I can't shutdown properly!
My drivers are all up to date and I have done a clean install and the same thing happens

Usb Root Hub Problem
I'm using the build 7600. It all started when i inserted a SD card. It didn't work so I inserted the SD card on my camera and plugged it in by usb. The second I inserted the usb to my laptop my usb mouse turned off and my wlan just literally vanished(it wasn't even in device manager.) Usb root hub with exclamation marks appeared in the device manager. I tried uninstalling them and letting Windows 7 install them again and wlan wont come back and the mouse wont work. I also tried uninstalling everything below usb conrtollers and generic volume and still no wifi. I tried installing the drivers from the manufacturer of my laptop after uninstalling the old ones and still none I was able to get the wlan running again after uninstalling everything below usb controllers in the device manager I restarted my comp in the middle of it cuz wlan reappeared and if i waited for it to finish wlan would disappear. Now Every time I plug in a usb device wlan disappears and everything starts all over again..

Toshiba Audio / USB Hub
I have a Toshiba Multimedia Center Audio/USB Hub (external). Since installing Windows 7 this device has failed to function properly, mainly due to the fact that Windows 7 has installed it's own generic Audio/USB Hub Driver wich does not run the device correctly. Due to this, while I'm able to get sterio sound, I'm unable to get surround sound from it, nor use the line in, line out, and Mic jacks on the front of the device which do not functions at all. I have tried all steps I can find surfing the net and these forums, right down to using Xp Compatability mode and run as admin to install it's own drivers, but all I get are errors telling me the driver is not compatible with the device. I recently discovered however that the hub runs on the same chipset as a Creative version, and that the drivers are compatible with each other. So I tried to install Creative's Vista driver for 'Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit'. This driver actually installed sucessfully. However, once I had rebooted as requested I found that the sound was no longer working at all and tat the driver read 'Device' or 'Driver' (can't remember which) 'could not be started'. So I've currently had to reinstall the default Windows 7 driver and leave it be with just some sound working. Can any one shed some light on this matter? I love this OS so far, and would really hate to have to uninstall it for the sake of a non functioning Audio/USB hub.

IOGear USB Hub Problem
So I have this IOGear USB Hub and all of a sudden a couple of days ago, all it does is power my devices. I have an external HDD, my Zune, my printer, and a couple other things, and they all are not detected by Windows when plugged into my computer through the USB hub. When they are plugged directly into my computer, they work perfectly, not a hitch. The thing is I only have 3 ports on my laptop (HP, x64) and the hub doubles that to 6. Does anyone know of a solution/workaround for this?

USB Hub Affecting Performance
OK, so I have a usb hub (with about 6 different gadgets attatched to it) that is plugged into my laptop at almost all times because I basically use it as a desktop. One time I needed to take the laptop out to do something, so I unplugged everything and opened up the laptop. I had installed something that needed me to reboot, so I did, and the reboot was almost 50% faster, if not more! Would you know why that is? Also, Windows 7 seems to boot up slower then Vista with the usb hub plugged in, but much faster when it isn't.$0

Belkin Network USB Hub F5L009
Just thought i would post a workaround, fix, solution for this until ms does possibly.... although it may be a belkin problem to fix Hardware affected: Belkin Network USB Hub F5l009 Situation: Installing and getting usb network hub to communicate Problem: Constant disconnecting of drives and Control Center crash/hang on exit. Under Windows 7 the drives/printer would connect, but then upon initial scan of a device it would close the connection, losing it completely, but still showing the device and devices attached to hub available on the network, not disabled like i have seen it show before when a problem with a device on the hub would occur. Resolution(s): First running both the install software under vista comp and the actual connect.exe (Control Center) under vista comp after install before initial run. Secondly, under XP this device worked fine without having to manually port forward the hub thru the router. Whether a flaw with the software under XP or the utilization of Upnp under XP (which i use on xp and network). Quick solve: Make sure to forward the ports manually, both tcp and udp. Also putting the device on DMZ will not work..

USB Root Hub Issues In RTM
I've been running various Windows 7 Betas and RCs on virtual machines and spare PCs for a while with no issues, so when I got access to the RTM I was quite confident (probably overly so) to upgrade my laptop from Vista. Right after the install (ironically enough, from a USB), everything was working fine, until I plugged in my iPod, which installed the apple driver successfully, then informed me that the device was unplugged before the USB Mass Storage driver installed (it wasn't). I proceeded to try the other three USB ports on my computer (all four worked fine in Vista, and still work fine in XP and Ubuntu). None worked. I tried a thumb drive with an internal LED, and it appears that the device receives power for about half a second, before cutting off. Running a system restore back to whenever they were last working fixes the problem, I can plug in a USB stick, and it works fine for a couple of minutes, then its useless again. The chipset is an Intel GMA965 express series, using the most recent driver (8.15.10.1825, for RC1). I've tried rolling back to the Vista driver, and the Vista driver in compatibility mode, to no avail. Additionally, I've tried uninstalling all of the "USB Root Hub"s in the device manager, and scanning for new hardware, and uninstalling all of the USB controllers and then scanning for new hardware, still no luck. The issue that windows gives is "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)" For which a fix for a similar problem (albeit with CD/DVD Drives) in XP was to delete the registry key, so I navigated my way to HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000} And was first told access is denied. I took ownership, fixed permissions, and it still refused to delete (although, in trying to check what exactly the error message was, it just deleted now, although I'm not hopeful it will help) I've disabled every reference to USB power saving mode in every power profile. Most recently, I've tried the most recent Intel Device Chipset Installer, which installed successfully, but makes no difference. I also tried the built in troubleshooter, which recognises the issue, reinstalls all the drivers, and tells me it works/doesn't work, and then either way, it doesn't work. Although the troubleshooter does identify if there is a device plugged in for two of the four USB ports, it tries to install drivers, and fails. In searching the internet for the last few days, I haven't been able to find a solution (although I have found several people with similar problems, one the same, all of which unsolved) I would really prefer not to do a clean install - the reason I upgraded in the first place was because I had far too many programs installed to make it worth reinstalling all of them. I'm open to downgrading to vista, if its do-able with a clean.

Drive blinks for a minute or two and then completely become frozen together with Windows Explorer. Same thing happens on full drive formating within 2-20 minutes after start.

Belkin Network USB Hub - Share HP Printers
I have two Hp printers attached to my Belkin Network USB hub, shared between three PC's. Two with Vista (one 32bit, one 64bit) and a W7 64bit. All three installed and recognize the Belkin USB control panel. All three PC's can see the HP printers, but only the Vista PC's will connect to the printers. The Belkin hub can be seen and configured in the Network sharing page of the W7 PC, but no amount of tweaking and configuration will make it connect to the printers. The correct drivers are loaded on the W7 PC, and both printers will work when connected directly. What's the secret to get the W7 PC to connect to the HP printers?

XP Virtualization Doesn't Work With Usb Hub Cube
I'm trying to use a measuring device which runs fine with standard XP Pro, but doesn't work in virtualization. The machine has two usb devices plugged into a hub. The hub is then plugged into the computer. I can install all the usb drivers, but the software for one of the devices only works when I bypass the hub (cube style). In other words, I can get a driver and software to work for a weigh load cell device (one component of the machine) when I plug it in directly; the program crashes when I use the hub. Any suggestions? This is not standard equipment. Drivers are only available for XP and no new drivers expected.

Asus M4A79 USB Crashes
I seem to be getting "random" crashes on my Win7 installation. This is win 7 ultimate 64-bit running on an Asus M4A79 Deluxe with a Phenom II 965 cpu. Everything is running at stock voltages and frequencies. Either moving the mouse after a long while being away from the PC may trigger the event, and in "other" cases the "USB (something)" appears as the guilty party in the BSOD dump screen. I am thus considering that perhaps my USB controller is crashing my box under win7. Windows XP works flawlessly on the same PC. Any ideas?

Explorer Crashes After Right Clicking On USB Key Drive Letter
does anyone know why Windows Explorer keeps crashing when I right-click on the USB drive letter in Windows 7? I used to be able to do this in Windows Vista: right-clicking gave me an option to run a Norton AV scan on a USB key after I plug it in, so I can scan it before I access any files on the USB drive/key. After it crashes , system asks me to search for solution on-line, that's never there anyway.

EXPLORER.EXE Crashes, MMC.EXE Crashes, Moviemaker.exe Error
I want to love Win7 so badly, but this is just crazy. I'm about to go back to good old XP, simply for the stability. I'm about fed up with Windows 7 after only using it for two weeks. Off of a brand new and formatted clean install, with only Norton NIS 2010, Itunes, Adobe Reader, and Firefox 3.5.7 installed, I get constant explorer.exe crashes. Shortly followed by an mmc.exe crash, then it just gets caught up in a never-ending explorer.exe crash that only a reboot resolves, for a short time. All drivers are up to date, and all Win 7 updates have been applied. I've even formatted and re-installed Win7 only to have explorer begin crashing a day later. This is all on a stock Dell Inspiron 545 quad core, 8GB RAM, etc. I'm very tech savvy and am about jump off of the Win 7 bandwagon. Maybe the Apple Mac commercials are correct, another fumbled attempt at a stable OS from Microsoft? After extensive reading, it appears that many others are suffering through this ____ also. Some get it while attempting to right click any icon, some when launching apps, some, like me , for no apparent reason at all. I don't ever get the BSOD, but the computer is essentially non-functional due to explorer restarting all the time. I've done a ton of reading and have tried sfc /scannow, which found no errors. I've tried shellexview, to no avail for the context handlers. I've uninstalled and re-installed all non-MS apps. I've tried everything that I've read, and it eventually starts crashing again. It is very random, and I can find no patterns that cause the explorer crashing. It works for two days, then goes haywire. Sometimes it only works for an hour before the explorer crashes begin. And yes, this is a fully licensed and legal copy of Win 7 Pro that I purchased through CDW. A side note, this computer ran WIN XP perfectly. All hardware has been tested and is perfect. If anyone has found a fix for this issue, then please chime in! Below are the errors that populate the Event Viewer: Activation context generation failed for "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryMovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryWLMFDS.DLL" on line 8. How To Set Up A Network Through A HUB ?
Recently I installed Windows 7 on 1 of my 2 computers. The other one is a windows XP, this one is Windows 7. Before I installed Windows 7, I had two computers with XP. A network between the 2 computers was created successfully. But since I have installed Windows 7, after formatting one pc, i can not create a network from XP to W7. Because i'm new to Windows 7 I cannot figure out how to set up a network. So I want to set up a network between Windows 7 and XP, through a HUB. No router involved, just a HUB. Can anyone explain me how to set up such a network. And cause i'm a noob with Windows 7, please explain it detailed ;) EDIT: The XP can't find the Windows 7 computer, and Windows 7 can't find the XP computer. Maybe someone can tell me from the beginning how I set up a network. I don't know if I did it the right way and I don't know either what i did ;)

Linksys - Connecting Pc To HUB, Says No Network Access
I recently moved downstairs in my household and was overjoyed to finally be able to use the network hub downstairs. Ive been using wireless lately which has served me well for my pc, but not for my Xbox 360. Anyway I decided to plug in the ethernet cable and see if I might be able to set it up on my pc and then save the settings to a USB stick so I could use it for my 360 (right now it wont connect, says it cannot get an IP adress). I didn't set up the network (my father did) so at this point I cant fiddle with the settings. Everything should be working, but its not. When I plugged my pc directly into the hub upstairs it worked perfectly, but for some strange reason down here the connection comes up as Unidentified Network, No Internet Access Has anyone else had this problem before? The hub should be working (i even plugged it in after taking the cables out, resetting it if you will, no dice). Also, forgot to add, it says that there is no connectivity, but I checked the connection and it automatically gets the ip and subnet address, which works fine with the wireless.

Crashes When Loading Up Certain Programmes
Ive just installed Windows 7 on my machine. Running an AMD dual core 3800+ with 4.0DDR2 and GForce 9750GT On the initial installation, just before you have the option to set up user name- the screen went all blue with lots on small black horizontal line across. It hung for a few mins and eventually I had to manually re-start. Off to a great start!! Anyway once it re-booted and after it had checked for the intial first use and graphics, I managed to get in to the system and successfully load onto the desktop. Continued through windows update and there was some updates for my graphics cards. After this I went to Nvidia's site and downloaded the 124mb file Windows 7 64 bit file. All this downloaded and installed ok, however, whenever I try to open a media file, Windows media centre it'self and msn messenger, the screen freezes and seems un recoverable. I haven't installed any other programes yet, but I can only assume it's something to do with the graphics card? remember this happened before I managed to even load the OS propperly for the first time...does anyone have any ideas as to what it could be at all and a possible solution?
