Recently my Toshiba Satellite laptop which runs Windows 7 is not shutting down. When shutting down, I receive a message that there is a background program running. I have to shut down the computer using the power button. Before I shut down the computer, I close all opened programs and then I open the task manager to see if there are any applications still running and there aren't any running.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a new HP dv6 laptop. The operating system is windows 7, 64 bit. I've had it less than a week. The power option I have set on it (default) calls for the system to go into the sleep mode after 20 minutes(closing the lid). I don't even see any option available to select that would shut the computer down after a certain time. The problem is, after having not used the laptop for approx. 12-14 hours, when I am ready to use it again, it has shut itself down. I don't know why it doesn't stay in the sleep mode.Any ideas why the laptop is shutting down? It's not overheating because I keep it in a cool room and the air flow around it is not restricted.

My problem is that it keeps shutting down and I cant find the problem.I dont think its overheating because I opened it up and the fan was working fine and there was no dust in the fan or heat sink but I sprayed it down with some dust off anyway. I even tried taking it outside in some cold weather to see. I tried a fresh windows 7 install but that still didn't work.It shuts off plugged in or running on battery to.
I have a habit of leaving my laptop on all the time, it's plugged into power. What is too long to leave a laptop running? How many times should I shut down or restart it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I just bought a used HP dv7 laptop. It came with a Dell charger and was able to charge fine. I use my laptop as my home computer so its always plugged in. Since I always keep it plugged in, I removed the battery so over time it wouldnt kill the battery life. So everything runs good, but I also like to play games on my laptop. when I do my laptop shuts off. I thought it might be my laptop crashing, but I noticed that the small light on the charger was off. I unplugged the charger from the wall socket and plugged it back in and the light came back on and my laptop powered up. The charger was very very hot. So I pointed a fan at it and played the game again, but it shut off again. I thought it had to do with the dell charger and the HP laptop, So I bought a brand new HP charger. But it still does the same thing, the charger shuts off.
Is there some settings I have to change? or something wrong with my laptop?

My new ASUS laptop will not shut down. I saw a thread a couple of days ago where a Richc46 said to try disconnecting the internet connection and then trying to shut down and if that worked he knew how to fix it. However, the thread ended there. I tried this and disconnecting the internet connection worked.I think Richc46 said it was something to do with the device manager, but I may be remembering that wrong. All of the other shut down menu options work (hibernate, sleep, restart, etc), it just won't shut down and restarts instead.I had tried the disconnection of the internet and it worked and successfully shut down ONCE. I just tried it again and it is restarting like it had been, so it's not as easy as just stopping the internet connection.

Will not even post to bios. Just dead.I adjusted the settings for the battery in windows to alert and shut down the computer at 50% to save whataver data is there, but this is not a good fix. There are no settings in the bios for adjusting the battery. What is going on in windows to cause this?I've read thru the threads and saw a lot of people with this problem only to be told that it's their battery or the laptop, and blah blah blah. When it opens pressing F2 in Setup Utility the system date is correct, the System Date is correct and Language is in English. You can enter these three and change them. But the CPu Type, Cpu Speed, HDD/SSD, Total memoy Size, an Sytem Bios Version cannot be selected or entere.The boot manager can be entered and the boot sequence can be changed. Nothing else can be done, can't even enter safe mode.
Bought the toshiba satellite A505-S6970 for college three years ago. Now the logo shows then the F2 or F12 menu. After which there is only a blinking cursor, There are no error beeps. Additionally the keyboard is entirely unresponsive: I can neither enter the F2 nor F12 menu.After powering I have left it sitting an hour but it was still a flashing cursor. It will not boot to usb if I put in a known to boot usb drive. Similarly it won't boot from a bootable CD or a DVD.

I tried to create one on my other win7 laptop but I only have cdrws and not dvdrws so I guess it failed because of lack of space to record everything?The cdrw did save some boot files but the Tosh laptop still couldn't load windows.I did manage to run the repair tool from the LT directly and when it finished it said the root cause was a corrupt registry. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Toshiba Satellite A500 that was preinstalled with Windows 7 home premium. Went to turn it on today and got a screen that said: Windows Error recovery. Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It then gives the option to run windows start up repair or run windows normally.
The repair option starts but ends up with a grey back ground screen and a mouse arrow on the screen. Nothing else happens after this. I tried the start Windows normally option but it gets as far as the Windows logo and no further.
The only recent change has been the addition of a new modem / router, other then that it has been business as usual with no changes.

I bought a new Toshiba laptop (L300-1DN) for someone this year and they have Vista SP2 on it (obviously fully included with Toshiba drivers etc. which are also on a recovery disk). There is an option to buy an upgrade version for Vista users of Win 7 HP, but I have already bought a full version of Win 7 Pro, and my preference is a clean install as I'm not too sure about the success rate of upgrades and efficiency of the new operating system afterwards...
Therefore if I do a clean install of Win 7 Pro, what's the situation regarding drivers? I was told that Win 7 has many manufacturers' drivers built into it's kernel and that any manual update of drivers should be minimal?
I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 that i just purchased a couple weeks ago. Every few days I keep getting the blue screen that warns me it's about to shut down to prevent damage to my computer or something...i can never read the entire message, it comes and goes so fast.
When I turn the computer back on, I keep getting various messages. Mostly that windows explorer has stopped working, MOM.exe application error, Microsoft.NET app error, my virus protection app error, so on and so on. These messages all pop up around the sametime. Some are even file corruption messages. Once i'm able to run a disk scan all that goes away....for a few days and then it starts over again.
