I purchased a Toshiba Lap Top from a lady. She said that she had the system completely restored....she sure did. I have no internal sound and my pen drives will not work in any of the USB ports. What do I have to do to get them to work? I have all of my work on these pen drives.
View 1 RepliesToshiba laptops which have problem CD/DVD drives seems to be fairly common. Mine can read a CD but not a DVD. I take the same DVD and it runs fine on my IBM running XP. I'm not convinced this is a hardware problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have this Toshiba 640Gb HDD. I partitioned it into three logical drives. When I inserted the hdd in my xp, one drive cannot be read. Later when I used again the hdd in 7, it says that one of the drives needs to be formatted (the one that can't be read by xp). I did so but I noticed that the drive letter changed. Series of switching between the two OS, the drive's letter continues to change upon formatting. Then to arrange again the drive letters in their alpha list, I used Easeus Partition Master to change the letters of the partitions back as F, G, and H. After the process, when I inserted the hdd, it took significant amount of time for the drive to be read.
Is there any way to revert and restore the drive letters of the system? I've tried to restore from backup but to no avail.
Win 64Bit Keeps making my drives Disk (Volume) attributes "read-only". I can Unlock the drives by using the command prompt and using diskpart to clear the attributes on each drive and volume, but this is tedious, and I have to do it almost every day. What is causing this and what can I do?
I have a feeling it may be related to another problem I have. I tried to change my homegroup settings but closed down my PC before it had finished making the changes. Now, when I try to change the homegroup settings all I see is a notice saying that it is still sharing my Libraries, or something similar. This message is permanent, and I can make no changes. What can I do about this issue please?
I have a problem with my PC. It is simply can't read lot of USB drive. I need to restart in order to be able to read it. Sometimes it is working or else it is still fail to read.I don't know what is the problem but I get this Inaccessible Function error. And when I checked at Disk Management, the file format of the USB flash drive shown as RAW.I have Ubuntu on my PC (dual boot). And it is just working. Therefore for some reason, my Windows 7 is stupid enough to detect my USB file system.

Found out that if I first transfer them to Windows Live Mail then to Thunderbird it would be easier. I saved the Outlook Express Folder from my old computer, which is long gone, to a travel drive. Now I'm trying to import them to WLM, but it won't do it. I found out I need to uncheck "read" under properties. I've tried and tried that, but every time it reverts right back to having it checked.

I have the same problem with my samsung dvd writer.First i use winxp no problem at that time my writer works fine , After i moved to win 7 but at that time no problem it is working fine read and write both cd and dvd.
But in before one week it does not read any cd or dvd (which burn by that writer) .when i insert a cd or dvd it start and when i go to windows explorer it display (in win 7) progress bar that it is reading.After complete the progress bar when i click on dvd rom icon and click open then dvd or cv will eject and display error message insert disc to rom .(i have used this writter 18 months ,but not hardly used)

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo recently my desktop PC has been freezing at random times, and then sometimes restarting after not responding for a couple of minutes (no BSOD, just restarts as far as I've seen). It sometime freezes as soon as I turn the computer on, while Windows is loading, and sometimes it will start freezing after an hour it's been on. Most of the time it will just freeze for around a minute, and then unfreeze, but sometimes it does freeze and then restart. By freeze I mean everything, mouse included, and ctrl+alt+delete doesn't work.Also at bootup sometimes, it will fail to detect my SATA hard-drive and hang at Detecting SATA drives at the bios screen. This will be following by a disk read error.This problem started occuring a couple of weeks a go, so I reinstalled Windows 7 and it worked fine after that.

there is some seriously issue with my optical drive. When i put in any DVD inside it just have a sound "like the DISC is running" for 3 times and it stopped. I tried a lot of different disc. It doesn't read the Disc at all..

I'm from India and recently we has religious function at home. As this was a personal religious event we took service of professional photographer who shoot the event using his digital camera and converted it to image on his computer. he burned image on DVD . I can play DVD on traditional DVD player Though the disk is full my computer drive recognize it as blank DVD. There are total 41 DVDs and some of the DVDs are recognized and can be played on computer. My DVD writer (on PC)is in good condition. The DVD which shows blank on my computer is shown full on photographe's computer.Unfortunately he could only told me that he has transfered this event from his camera disk to computer using some new HD technology. According to him some configuration changes required on my computer. His computer also run on window 7. Also same photographer did this same event recording for me three years ago and all these DVDs play well on my computer?

Basically, I sometimes can't access other drives/partitions on my computer. If I look at my drives in Windows Explorer, I can see them all listed. If I double-click on the drive, the progress bar at the top of the window moves along very slowly, but the drive never actually opens.
Sometimes I can access a folder on the problem drive by running e:stuff, while other times it will just open an empty Windows Explorer window. Sometimes I can access a folder, but if I try to access the same folder a few minutes later, I run into the same problem again.
Indexing is turned off for all but a few folders (library folders).
Any ideas?
I am installing windows 7. but the installation cd won't recognized the hard drives but my bios does. i went to the website and looked up drivers for the wd2500s but they don't have them. they said that they use the software in windows to work. so is there any way to get the drives to work? i have three set up on raid 0

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS. The BIOS sees both hard drives and the CD and DVD drive and the Windows Device Manager shows the extra hard drive and both optical drives. When I click the folder in the task bar (Libraries) I can only see "C" drive and no optical drives either. When I click on the CD drive I get the right menues for it, but it does not work at all. If I put a CD in the drive it locks up the system and I have to power off the computer before I can eject it.

I got a new motherboard yesterday, installed it, and installed windows. This morning, I decided it would be a good idea to flash the UEFI (BIOS) to the newest version. Now, when I try to boot, it just sits with a gray cursor at the top left of the screen. I went into the UEFI and went to boot order, but it only shows my 1TB hard drive and my dvd drive. But I had a 750GB hard drive with windows installed. I think this is the reason it won't boot, because it doesn't see the drive with the OS installed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot up my Windows 7 Professional x64 machine I get that balloon that states "Could not reconnect all network drives". How do I get rid of this? I am hard wired into the network (not wireless) and I cannot find a way around it.
All the solutions I have found state its either due to wireless network authentication occuring late in the boot process (but im hard wired) or that you need to upgrade to a Pro edition of windows (which I cam using).
It is not disasterous if I am being honest its just mildly irritating

Initially noted that it wasn't showing in 'my computer' and so assumed I had driver issues and sought to update them from Dell's site. After doing so there was still no change, but noted that It was appearing in 'device manager'.I even tried updating the USB hubs from the Device Manager, and it states that they are all up-to-date with the correct drivers. Both external hard drives that i have tried has worked on other PC's so i assume that mine is the issue.
