May 28, 2012I'm running a 64-bit system, and I can't get explorerframe.dll to update properly. I've disabled UAC, patched the system files, taken ownership of the files in System32 and in SysWOW64, and replaced the files with the ones I want after adding a .old extension to the ones that I want to replace, but nothing changes. The only changes that I see are from the theme files that I used. This has happened consistently with the five or six themes that I've tried.

I have already patched the theme dll files with UXtheme but when I go to enable a new third party theme nothing happens.#2 Nearly every single time I try to copy files from my HDD to a USB Flash Drive the file transfer exits midway and I have to restart it again and again till it finishes, mostly with a large group of files 2gb+. My USB Flash drives are not broken they are fine I tested them.#3 When I change my cursor to a custom one it resets to the default cursor on reboot.#4 When I installed Windows7 1 month ago I could not reach other computers on my LAN by IP or SharesShared Folders, and as of now they can nolonger reach me at all.#5 How do I Fully disable Readyboost? I thought I already did disabled it. When I insert a USB Flash Drive I see a file appear on it with the name "Readyboost" and some extension I can't remember.

Sep 29, 2011I am trying to take ownership of some of my system files in order to grant administrative permission to change the name of the files and replace them with customized versions. Everytime I do this, Right after I take ownership and grant permission to ExplorerFrame, or any of the other files, I cant click on any of the other "edit" options to take ownership of any of the other needed files.

I finally turned it off, but now it is using a default theme even though it says I am using the custom theme. Help/Troubleshooting is useless since it only helps you turn aero on.I tried downloading and installing a theme pack. It didnt work.

Jun 22, 2011For the past few days, if not a week now, I've noticed that when I switch to Basic theme for RAM intesive programs like Adobe After Effects, Windows is quite slow, almost running as though my laptop is 1GB not 2GB RAM.Though when I switch to Aero theme, Windows is only slightly slower with Adobe After Effects running. My laptop is Compaq Presario CQ56, 2GB shared graphics and I can't explain why the Basic theme is running slow whereas Aero is responding faster, so much so, programs tend to stop responding more frequently on Basic. I have run MSE, MBAM and SAS (MSE realtime, others are standalone mode) and found no viruses and I update them all either daily or every two days. I only have Realtek Audio and MSE on Startup so I can't figure out why this happening!

Jul 19, 2009I found a way to apply images to folders, I have large collection of music/ videos and I know all xp users love the way folder display images but Windows 7 has hard time applying this.
This step has to be applies manually on each folder but works for me.
Steps:
1.Right click on a Folder >> properties (select)
2. Properties windows (displayed) >> Select Customise (last tab)
3. Choose File.. (under Folder pictures) >> select Image(.jpg) (Note: All my images are .jpg Format, dont have be to be called Folder.jpg)
4. Change Icon (under Folder icons) >> Restore Defaults >> Apply >> Ok.

Note: My folder is not customise to specific type, e.g. Music, pictures etc. I have left it as General Items. (OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7100) RC)

Oct 7, 2011This may seem like a strange thing to do, but today's SSD article reminded me of my desire to find out if this is possible - I have an unusual requirement that discourages me from even going the "small ssd as boot drive, large hdd for other things" route, unless I can find a way to do this. I do QA work for a distributor of downloadable games, so I like to be able to install the entire catalog (150+ GB), and put them into folders under "C:Program Files (x86)", so that I'll be able to see whether the UAC will cause problems for them (I install most of my other programs outside Program Files). Thus, to use ssd+hdd, I would need a way to apply the same restrictions to a folder on the hdd (and preferably also have any virtualized files directed to the hdd as well, but that's less critical).

Aug 8, 2012I recently found a REALLY cool looking theme, and installed it. I was in love with it. After having that theme, I wanted a new start button to go with it. I found, and installed, a new start button. Then I installed a cool cursor. Finally, my wants didn't end. I wanted to get a new icon pack that looked good with the theme. I found a decent, and popular, one. I downloaded it. It came with an installer, so I used it. After installing, it asks me to "re-boot" my computer. I did it, and when I turned it back on my computer was messed up with some "shell32.dll" error. It took me a couple of hours to fix it. Many people recommended a system restore, or to use the "sfc /scannow" command. I did those two things, but they didn't work. I try to restore the system, but ALL my restore points were gone. I tried to do the "sfc /scannow" command, but apparently I didn't have permission. I'm the only user on this computer. How do I not have permission to do something? I ended up fixing it by doing some kind of system repair on start up. Although, now my computer is really slow, and I can't use custom themes for windows 7 anymore! I had a really cool one installed, but now when I turn it on, it just shows up as a dark version of the classic theme. I tried re-downloading, and re-installing it, twice. It still didn't work. It seems like ANY custom theme I get shows up as the theme that messed up my computer. I uninstalled that, but it seems like it's still here. Is there any way I can repair it, and get my custom themes back?
