Recently, for the umpteenth time, I tried the Windows DVD Maker and it actually worked! However, on the next attempt I get: "The program cannot access the file because it is being used by another program"I am burning a dvd-rw with several files, but I am not told which one is being accessed by another program.

Researching, I know this is a Java thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail.My windows update is fully updated.I've run 3 virus programs.I notice this was addressed for someone using XP but what of Windows 7? My add/remove program file only contines the program Java (TM) update 29. Nothing else is listed as far as Java is concerned.I've run cleaner programs and these did not take care of the problem. Every time I restart my machine these errors immediate pop up at start up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere is a program on the desktop that I want to run, but when I try to run it [winzip self-extractor] I get an error message saying "cannot run setup.exe" and when I try to delete it I get "action cannot be completed because the file is open in itself [??!!] or sometimes it says it's open in another program; it has never been opened before. This program worked fine in Win7 on another machine and Vista and XP before that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop computer with Windows 7. This morning, every time I try to enter any program, I get a message which reads: Choose which program you want to open this file". This has never happened before. I tried going into Safe Mode, but the same message pops up when I attempt to open any program there as well. I tried scanning the computer with AVG, but am unable to because I get that same message. Is this some sort of virus? And what can I do to remove this message?
Also, I'm unable to go into regedit. I got a message which reads: File not found.
EDIT: I am able to access my programs in the Start menu. Now, I'm thinking that I might need to delete my shortcuts and replace them with new ones.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI received a link from a friend to a video he posted on Dropbox. I have received links to videos from him before and it worked just fine. The video is a MOV file. Now, when I get an email in Windows Live Mail with a link to a video I get the error "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action....". I can copy the url and paste it right to IE8 and it works fine. I have checked my file associations in Control Panel and MOV is set to open with Quicktime. I tried changing that to Windows Media player but got the same error.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOn my W7 machine (Dell X1) everything is working fine. I want to upgrade the BIOS so I downloaded the exe to do so. When I attempt to run it I get "Program Access Denied" no matter whether I run it normally or as administrator. Since my account is an administrator account it shouldn't matter. I've tried using the cmd window, but that doesn't do it either - always the same message. I've checked that the permissions on the file should allow it.

I used System Restore, didn't like what it did, so I undid the restore. But now ANY program I try to run that isn't part of windows says "(program) can not run because LPK.dll is missing." Something along those lines.Now I've read up on lpk.dll so I tried replacing the file with a newly downloaded one. Guess what? Need permission even though I'm the highest in admin rights. So I tried safe mode with command prompt. Guess what? Access is denied. I CAN NOT replace lpk.dll. Secondly, as I said, NO programs work. So if I try to use a program to fix the problem automatically, it doesn't work because of lpk.dll. If I try to use a program to stop the access is denied stuff, it doesn't work. I need a way I can FORCE the system into replacing the file. Otherwise there's no way I will ever be able to use my computer again (besides reinstalling the OS).

A dialogue saying "You need permission to perform this action You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder".I thought it weird, since I am one of the computer's administrators. Next, I logged on to my dad's profile (at his insistence, though there shouldn't be any difference in the administrator powers of our profiles). The same result followed.Next, I looked online in a Google search and found this site, which told me to use the command prompt to first give me the ownership of the files, then give me complete permissions to the files, and then delete them. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 program folders listed as x86 on my 64 bit machine. This 2nd x86 program folder contains games that were downloaded and installed from Big Fish games (and those are the only programs that ever go into that 2nd x86 folder).
Other info (that may be important?): I recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. This 2nd 86x program folder was also on my Vista install. I upgraded using the method here to create the windows .old folder process... and that 2nd 86x folder installed into my C drive automatically. (I also used the HP upgrade assistant as directed by HP.
It really drives me crazy that I don't know why I have 2 of these folders. Doesn't seem to cause any issues at all, but wanted to get advice/opinion as to why I have 2 of these and if I'll ever run into issues because of it.
