System Restore Image Not Working/cannot Be Found?

Jan 15, 2013

So way back when I installed windows on my SSD I made a system image restore doohickey, using the "Create A System Image" tool, once I had applied all the necessary settings, installed drivers, etc. Now, windows is experiencing problems and I wish to restore to this back up. How on earth do I do this? The images don't have any kind of runnable-files inside to use. And when I use the recovery disk it says it cant find any image. Ive explored windows various restore utilities and the likes, and at no point does it simply say something like "Please select the file location of your restore image". I have the system image doohickey just sitting there...how do I tell windows to just use that backup? It all seems to be trying to do it in some automated fashion..

System Image Backup Cannot Be Found?

Oct 15, 2011

I have a system image that was saved to a maxtor one touch ext HD via USB. This was created using Windows 7 image making system. I am trying to copy the image to my new HDD (internal) 1TB. The problem is when I go to recovery>advanced options>restore from image and reboot, the PC cannot find the image. I can click advanced options and search for a driver and actually see the drive and the image folder/zips but Windows 7 cannot detect it. I have also copied this image to a internall HDD because I thought it may be the USB. I have not changed any BIOS settings as I am using Windows 7 on the 1TB HDD and trying to restore to that from either the Dnetouch or the F:internal HDD. Neither times will it find the image.uestions. Do I need to use an alternate program like paragon or clonezilla2. When the image is saved, it is the name of my pc. Example: Fesktop64-PC. Does it need to be in a folder or the image be a specific name? Ive seen WindowsImageBackup as a possiblity.

System Image On System Restore Disk Not Reading After Crash?

Oct 2, 2012

Using preinstalled Win 7 Home Premium 64bit on an HP 6813w Pavilion. The original hard drive, a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1Tb crashed.1) System Recovery discs was made along with a System Recovery with System Image disc.2) A more current System Image was made on an external hard drive. The Hitachi was replaced with the same model. Checked bios to make sure it was installed correctly.Under System Recovery, Image Restore, Select a System Image Backup there is nothing in the table to choose from as far as a source (disc drive or external drive).A) System Recovery (3 discs) has the HP preinstall file folder on the 3rd disc but is not read by the System Recovery program.B) Under System Restore, Image Restore, Advanced, it asks for a network or driver to be installed. That opens up the directory of C: which is the external hard drive. Under WindowsImageBackup the computer name is identified followed by three entries:[CODE]It seems to me the Recovery and System Restore discs are not functional. Am not a technical person but I have taken this as far as I know how at this point.Printed out all the instructions from HP and Microsoft to follow step by step but the failed discs will not allow me to move forward.

System Image File Error - No Disk For Recovery Can Be Found

Nov 24, 2012

I have this laptop with Windows 7 as the operating system and with a capacity of 500 GB. My HDD was making loud noises and weird noises so I brought it to the shop and they told me to change the HDD because it might die anytime. So I did a full backup on my external hard disk, meaning that I cloned my laptop. I changed my 500gb HDD with a 240gb SSD. And when I tried to restore my backup files into the new drive, there's an error: "no disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found".

So I did some research on the internet and found out the reason of the error: it's because the image created was from a bigger drive than the new drive I put into my laptop. Even though my backup files are only about 100gb, I still cant restore it to my 240gb SSD because the image created was from my 500gb HDD. I am going to copy my backup files into an external hardisk with a capacity of 200gb and then backup from that drive and then I will restore it into my 240gb SSD. Will the backup file be considered as a backup from the 200gb drive or from the original 500gb HDD?

Windows 7 System Image Restore?

Jan 14, 2011

Been awhile since I've been around here. I'm stuck with a new problem. My desktop's OS hard drive crashed/is crashing. After testing several pieces of hardware and reseating numerous items, I got lucky and was able to boot into safe mode, once. My event viewer is full of disk errors. Pages and pages of disk errors. *Side note: Sure would've been nice if Windows would have said something */End Side note* So I have a Windows System Image and Windows Backup on a secondary drive that appears healthy. But I'm just curious what I'm looking at when my new hard drive gets here.Has anyone ever used the Windows 7 Image Backup/Restore utility? Can you use the image on a different hard drive or just when repairing the original? Will my programs be saved or just data? Just curious questions. All of my Google searches are bringing up reviews about the utility from the Win 7 RC days so I'm not real sure what I'm getting myself into here.

Restore From Saved System Image?

Oct 26, 2011

So I booted into my other hard drives win 7 pro installation. Then I saved that system image onto my hard drive where the new windows 7 pro install is. After booting into the new windows install, then rebooting and going through the wizard and using the backed up image from the old windows 7 pro install it appears as if nothing is installed, no programs, drivers, themes, visuals etc. It's as if I didn't do anything at all.

System Image Restore Difference Between Three Methods

Jan 25, 2011

I was wondering, there seems to be four ways to restore a windows 7 system image:

1. Backup and Restore --> Recover system settings and computer --> Open System Restore --> Choose System Image Restore Point.

2. Backup and Restore --> Recover system settings and computer --> Advanced recovery methods --> Use a system image you created earlier to recover your computer.

3. Boot computer from system repair disk and choose the appropriate option

4. Boot computer from win7 installation DVD and choose the appropriate option

What is the difference between these four ways of restoring or are they completely equivalent? How about the options in the system restore (checkboxes, etc..), I don't think they are self-explanatory, do you have any links where they would be explained well?

White Screen Reboot Loop / Hard Drive Not Found In System Restore

Oct 9, 2012

When I start my laptop, it shows the HP logo, begins to boot and is almost instantly interrupted by a white screen that scrolls down from the top. It reboots right after the white screen.I am able at the HP logo screen able to navigate to System Restore and that is where I run into my next problem. When the System Restore window opens for confirmation it shows that "Local Disk (C) (System)" status: "Ready to restore" and the check-box next to it is checked. The next line has a empty check-box for "Local Disk (C)" with the status: "The drive cannot be found." I can also successfully boot into Safe Mode with Networking. I can access all my files. Which leads me to believe that it is a hardware problem. Possibly the motherboard or graphics card.

Red X And Non Working System Image?

Feb 16, 2013

I am using 2 identical Dell Studio XPS 8000 desktop computers (wit Microsoft USB Natural Keyboards), 1TB hard drives, Windows 7, 64 bit platform) and I had no problem in the past making System Images. I have 2 separate external hard drives (1 is a 1TB Seagate Expansion External Hard Drive, the other is a 160GB hard drive.)It seems the System Image is approximately 149.GB, so will fit.I thought you had to erase the previous system image to put a new one on the same hard drive, but both computers said the drive was disconnected, and put a big red X on the drive location. Turns out I had to reformat the empty drives. I did, and the computers recognize both dries when they are connected, but the red X remains, and attempts to make a new system image fail. I am offered the "start backup" box, I can click on it, and all seems to be going well until the fill bar (green) stops about 1/6th of the way across, it stops there and j ust spins, not filling anymore, and if left long enough, it turns completely red and says the process failed.

System Repair / System Restore Not Working

May 8, 2011

The other day I was trying to figure out what coral paintshop pro meant by security key, so I googled it. Something popped up and asked me if I wanted to download, and I wanted to say no, but my laptop's mouse is too sensitive at times, so I accidentally clicked yes. My computer automatically shut down right after that. Every time I turn it on now, it goes straight into System Repair and it doesn't work, it says it cannot repair. I've tried System Restore, but since that doesn't get rid of the documents that have been downloaded, it isn't helping either. My computer won't even let me enter any form of Safe Mode, it just goes straight back to System Repair.

Nothing else F11 and f8 do not work, I have 3 recovery discs, that I burned when I bought tis computer, I attempted to boot from them and was able to get into recovery manager with the first disc, (no prompts to load the other discs) I've tried start up repair , first run it rebooted and back to the same, second time it said it was not repairable and asked to call home, so to speak It currently says it is still running, I also tried a system restore to an earlier hpsf point and once completed it went back to the black screenI run avg, malware bytes, and ccleaner on occassion.

System Restore Not Working?

Oct 1, 2012

I have a Toshiba NB255 Net-book with Windows 7 Home Premium on it, and since i got it has worked great. That is until a short time ago refuses to connect to WiFi. I tried everything. It wound up being a dead end for me, so i thought maybe i'll just restore it because it could be something i messed up or an update conflicted with my system.I go to system restore, and it says i cannot perform it due to C disk needing to be error checked. That would normally be fine and dandy, except when i run error check during boot-up, it tells me it cannot perform it until i use system restore..It's an infuriatingly infinite loop ofstupidity.Because of the mix between my net-book refusing to restore, connect to WiFi, update(update just gives me error code '80070490'), or do anything besides just use Office and other stuff, my net-book just collects dust now.

It had a dependency RPc I set that to automatic when I log on. I do not know what the default settings are for these; I would have thought start up if its monitoring your hard drive.

Windows 7 System Restore - Further Action For Flawless Working?

Jan 5, 2013

I had to do a system restore on my computer. The reason for this was that when I started the computer it booted up fine until I had to type my password to enter windows; after that windows did not load. The system was restored to an earlier date and my question is: do I need to do anything else beyond the system restore to ensure the computer is working correctly? I have little idea about computers so I don't know whether the problem is still on the system or if the restore will have resolved the issue permanently.
