Its almost as if the entire system waits on the disk IO to complete before doing anything else.
In fact those of you older folks would remember that using floppies on windows XP caused this exact same issue. I would have thought that a modern computer should not be running into this kind of issue.
I'm not sure what happened to cause this but one day (around 2 weeks ago) my laptop running Windows 7 started taking really long to log in. For 2 years I never had any issues, and it would boot / log in and be ready for use within a minute.For the last 2 weeks, every time I try to log in (whether the laptop was powered off or sleeping), my computer is unresponsive / lagging and slow for at least 10 minutes (no programs work, nothing will open, etc.). After a lengthy period of time after log in, it seems to operate normally until I don't use it long enough for it to go back to sleep, and then I experience the same issue when I attempt to log back in

So i reinstalled windows using the recovery partition. After reinstalling windows my computer is still very slow, often becomes unresponsive, windows updates will not download or take absolutely a lifetime to download. I am at a point where i do not know what to do. It is mid semester in school and this computer is important.

Some programs like Spotify, Skype and even my Task Manager arent showing any letters, I dont know if it was because I tried opening them too early upon restart or not but this whole situation is annoying. I'll provide pictures as an example of whats going on with the letters. Just now I clicked on skype and got an error that said "Out of system resources" I closed it and nothing happened but what is going on...

At first, I disabled RAID because of the blue screens and I found that one was bad and the second of the RAID 1 appeared fine. Well, I installed XP to ensure it would work and that was extremely slow. My client didn't have a disc to XP MCE, but instead bought Windows 7. The installation took about 12 hours and the system is often unresponsive. On resource monitor, the 2.13Ghz Conroe CPU is barely tapped and the 2GB of RAM is barely at 30%. However, the system takes forever to boot and it very often stops responding for a period of time.
I did my research and found out that this model--original specs--can handle 7 better than this. I told the client it was probably an HDD error, as it seems to hang everytime the system must access the HDD. I can't even run the Index to find out what the systems rating is. I mem tested the RAM and chkdsk the HDDs before removing the first because of its clear faults in its inability to hold an OS installation. I recently installed the 2.5.3 BIOS update, but I haven't had a chance to install a newer version of Intel Matrix Manager.

View 8 Replies View RelatedInitial symptoms began when I decided to give Win 8 a try. Immediately after the Windows 8 install my system would become unresponsive/freeze, but never had a BSOD. Mouse was still functional but unable to actually do anything. Forced me to power cycle the PC. I ran memory diagnostics and attempted to use the repair options built into the OS, but no resolution.After trying to fix the Windows 8 freezing I decided to go back to Win-7 HP 64Bit. I performed a clean install keeping only personal files and the windows.old old folder. With the new install I ran all the needed updates in Update manager and updated all the drivers as needed. For the first couple days all was well and then the OS would freeze/hang/become unresponsive... required power cycling to reboot. As of late, the system would boot to log-in screen but would either freeze when I typed a character or moved the mouse. Other times it would hang after entering my password and never load the desktop. There have been times when I couldn't even boot to safe mode[with networking] or [cmd].
So today is throwing me for a loop because I am on the affected computer and all seems to be operating perfect.I am at a loss for understanding, why be broke for 1.5 - 2 weeks and now suddenly work like a charm?I ran SFC and have errors that cannot be fixed automatically. Event viewer has a lot of friendly red icons and a few more mellow yellows. So I am asking for help in resolving the issues that exist with my OS, hoping to learn and avoid installing the Backup image i have from late last year.
I've had a few problems for the past 2-3 weeks-ish and i can't find any solutions, the problem consists of whenever i get into the operating system to the desktop it will load in increments ill set there for a little while and say for example my drivers that make my mouse run and say core temp at start-up wont launch for about 30 seconds but when they do they launch together it also doesn't load any of my removable drives during this time either. I've had general slowness of windows.exe when i go into documents it takes 5-7 seconds to load you can see the bar up at the top moving along like grandma on a walker. Steam has also been affected quite terribly it goes unresponsive when i try to download or do anything really in fact i can't launch it right now it just won't after i sign in it connects then goes unresponsive and closes. My mother board logo at the beginning of turning on my PC also has been slowed takes 20-30 seconds now used to take 3-5 no bios options have been changed for the logo.I'm running my OS on a crucial M4 64gb with the firmware update i believe ill have to check and all my apps are on a 1tb WD black Space wise the SSD is at 9 gigs free and the HDD is at 300gigs free

I've checked all plugins and everything is fine i built the system in march and this problem is new i suspect the motherboard bios which i have stock its a rev 0906 i believe but i'm not too sure ill update it here in a bit along with the SSD.I use Microsoft Security Essentials for security and i have ran full system scans with that and malwarebytes i run CCleaner every week and so fourth.

so it started about a month ago, i would be playing eve online or minecraft.. and all of a sudden.. i would get a blue screen of death OR a computer lock up.. bac then i had 2x radeon 5770 cards... i replaced that with a radeon 7950 (amazing card btw) computer still keeps locking up, so i run memtest to see if its the ram, it passed, . so i turn off the pc. the next day... i get a startup failure in win7, i tried to repair it many times but it wouldnt.. so i took out my SSD hard drive and bought a traditional spin hard drive.. so far..only 1 blue screen .. something to do with ATi.. so i stopped running catalyst control center (i like to keep an eye out for my vid card temp) as well as speedfan (just in case) doesnt run anymore... so now my computer doesnt randomly freeze... ever.. HOWEVER.. when my computer is under heavy load (i run 8 clients of a game called EVE Online).. it will freeze.. no mouse movement.. nothing...total freeze.. this also happens when i load up the universe map in eve online (i guess that only goes to people who play eve)otherwise.. computer now runs stable if i avoid those 2 things and 1 more thing to add.. i obviously had to reinstall windows 7 on my new hd so it is a fresh install?
GPU utilisation is just 42-58 % while heavy games like GTX 4 episode from Liberty, also in crysis 2 many times it is just 70-80% at 1600*900 resulution and quality is maxout in COD MW3 and black opps it fails to maintain 60 FPS constant in Battlefield 3 Armod kill utilization is just 43-73 % while FPS are below 30-45 and why effective memory is 3000 Mhz instead of 6000 mhz

After I restart either of my Dell laptops which both run MobileMe (Apples' email/calendar sync tool used with iphones/pads) I notice a huge slowdown in performance and applesyncnotifier.exe is usually consuming 50% of my dual core processor (I assume this is the max it can grab).I've seen all kinds of posts on how to remedy (kill the applesync process, place an eventlog trigger to kill process etc etc) but nothing that's actually resolved the problem. Oddly killing the process seems to have no effect on the software, which seems to run/sync ok regardless.Apple stated a few times to change the sync period from 'automatic' to daily or some other timeframe, but this doesnt seem to solve things, just mitigate a little.It's a real pain having to kill this PID - of course it may well be ropey software, but I've upgraded MobileMe a couple of times and no change. Also I'd expect the problem to occur a lot more often out there than it seems to.

Whenever I'm multitasking or doing something simple as scrolling over a compacted windows to see multiple, mini windows pop up down on the task bar, the screen freezes for a moment then comes back to how it was. Is there any way to fix this?
I think it's caused by some factor that limits the CPU power usage, but I'm not good with computers so it's not the best assumption, and I don't even know how to change it.
I have a Dell Studio 1558 that runs Windows 7 Premium. I also have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD video card, a Core i5 processor, and 6GB of memory. I play World of Warcraft and the game runs for about 15 minutes quickly and then slows to a crawl each time. Is there something wrong with the system or something I can do to fix it? I didn't do or download anything new so i'm stumped. every few minutes its like my system skips. freezes for a second then runs. Every program I click stops responding, I have to wait a few seconds for it to start running again. Minimized windows lag while they're being maximized, Chrome tabs open and load pages really slow. Both came back fine. Suspecting Hard drive problem I downloaded and ran Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (it's a WD drive). That too came back with a clean report. I have run the usual maintenance duties like defrag but still no good. Also checked for malware with Spybot.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis is something I have seen occur multiple times in 17 years of using windows, after a unexpected shutdown windows i/o performance slows right down and I still dont have the answer to it.
Today I accidently cut the power to my pc, so windows didnt crash it just lost power.
Windows took about twice as long to boot. After it had booted the system hdd was very busy doing I dont know why (wasnt superfetch or virus scanning). The i/o was used by the system process. Outlook took a looooong time to open. it then also took a very long time to close deleting the deleted emails which are usually way faster. Internet explorer took about 2 minutes to restore crashed tabs which was massive disk i/o. Opening tiny apps where the hdd light either flashes very briefly or doesnt come on at all have a noticeable 1-2 sec delay with the light on solid.
I expect after a manual defrag things will be back to normal. Dos all the prefetch data get trashed on a unexpected shutdown or something?
I've had this Sony Vaio VPCEE3WFX/BJ for about a year now. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. My little sister was on it and was playing Poptropica and that was the only thing she did on there. After shutting down the computer, I didn't turn it on until the next day. After pressing the power button, I got the Vaio screen or whatever the screen is called. After that screen has loaded, Operating System Not Found appears out of nowhere. I turned the computer on and off a couple of times but I still received the "Operating System Not Found" After I tried turning it off and on, I tried turning it on again but pressing F8 so that I could get some start up options. I was able to get to the screen and select "Start Windows Normally" From that point, I can get to the login screen and my desktop. The only problem with that is that it takes around 20 minutes to get to the login screen. Once I enter my password, it takes around 10 minutes to get past the login screen. Once past the screen, I get a black screen with the cursor in the middle. If I wait around an hour or so, the desktop will finally load and I will be able to do what I please with one condition. If try and open a program or anything it takes around 10 minutes to load it up and if I try to load a page on Google Chrome, it takes around 5 minutes just for one page.I was thinking about calling Sony to see if there was any way I could send in the laptop for repair before the warranty expires which is in just a couple of weeks.
I have tried Startup Repair but it was no help because I get errors when I try and click some of the solutions. ( I can't remember what the errors say) Also, would re-installing Windows 7 solve the problem? The laptop did not come with a recovery disk or Windows 7 installation disk.Edit: I forgot to mention that I ran 2 virus scans (one from AVG and one from Malwarebytes) and the results came out clean except a file that AVG reported was unsafe due to little known users using it. I ignored it but still deleted it because it was a program one of my teachers told me to download from the home website. (the program was Autodesk Inventor 2011)

I recently did a system restore to factory settings and now my computer is running very slow. I have done all the windows updates and checked for any updates on the drivers. I also defraged it. I noticed that the physical memory is always very high between 85 and 100. The CPU is 10-50.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had Win 7 64bit installed on my C: Partition which contains System Files and Program Files. Data is stored on Partition E:. The System has functioned perfectly until straight after installing updates on 16/02/2012. I believe some of these updates were: KB2660465, KB2645640, KB2654428 and an Office 2007 Update. The Update Install procedure called for a System Restart which for unknown reasons booted to Safe Mode. I performed a Restart which booted correctly and I continued to work for the rest of the day. Next morning it booted to ChkDsk running, which apparently found and rewrote Orphaned Files. This activity caused me serious concern.
I ran scans with MSE and MalwareBytes and both were clean.I decided to perform a System Restore back to 12/02/2012 which was a known good Restore Point, created by Critical Update. This Restore has now been running for four hours with the HDD Light blinking. This makes me believe that there is in fact something happening on the HDD, what I do not know.I am aware the System Restore must not be stopped once started. The Question now is: How much longer should I allow it to run?? or Should I kill it now???If I were to Kill It now, what would I then have to do???I have never known System Restore to take so long before. I see this as being abnormal. I do not want to destroy two months of installation work.
I have an Acer Aspire timeline computer I bought 2 years ago. This computer advertised great battery life, internal cooling, and all sorts of other cool things....unfortunately, it was all a lie. But enough about that, As of like 3 days ago, I noticed my computer would respond slowly and take forever to complete a shutdown. I thought nothing of it until I decided to scan it usingSuperAntiSpyware. It came back with 40 tracking cookies, which I deleted. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed it was still running slowly. So I decided a system restore would be niceI tried the first availible restore date. That apparently failed. Then I tried several others, with no success. I kept getting error codes telling me that the system restore failed to extract the file. It said the disk failiure might have been caused by bad sectors....I have no idea what that means. Ive tried multiple restore dates, they all come back with the same message.
I do not have Norton on my computer ( I read this was part of the problem in many other machines with the same restore error, but just to make it clear, that is not part of the problem with my computer). I can only use my computer in safe mode, because the regular boot mode is wayy too slow and laggy. Also I have plenty space on my computer so it couldnt possibly be slowing down because its getting full or something.
