Nov 8, 2011A few days ago my pc started running really slow. I didn't do or download anything new so i'm stumped. every few minutes its like my system skips. freezes for a second then runs. Every program I click stops responding, I have to wait a few seconds for it to start running again. Minimized windows lag while they're being maximized, Chrome tabs open and load pages really slow. Even clicking the start menu takes it forever to come up. its like im running on an ancient PC. I've done some things to try and fix this like:Avg boostspeed and CC cleaner to try and fix any problems.Cleaned and defraged the registry &Defraged and optimize the hard drive Virus and malware scans all come back negative. No windows updates either.I have no idea what else to do.

System Very Slow And Constantly Getting Not Responding Messages
Sep 28, 2012I've been noticing my system is very slowly lately. I'm also constantly getting "not responding" messages. So far I have tried sfc /scannow, and chkdsk /r . Both came back fine. Suspecting Hard drive problem I downloaded and ran Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostics (it's a WD drive). That too came back with a clean report. I have run the usual maintenance duties like defrag but still no good. Also checked for malware with Spybot.

Mar 5, 2012This is something I have seen occur multiple times in 17 years of using windows, after a unexpected shutdown windows i/o performance slows right down and I still dont have the answer to it.
Today I accidently cut the power to my pc, so windows didnt crash it just lost power.
Windows took about twice as long to boot. After it had booted the system hdd was very busy doing I dont know why (wasnt superfetch or virus scanning). The i/o was used by the system process. Outlook took a looooong time to open. it then also took a very long time to close deleting the deleted emails which are usually way faster. Internet explorer took about 2 minutes to restore crashed tabs which was massive disk i/o. Opening tiny apps where the hdd light either flashes very briefly or doesnt come on at all have a noticeable 1-2 sec delay with the light on solid.
I expect after a manual defrag things will be back to normal. Dos all the prefetch data get trashed on a unexpected shutdown or something?
Operating System Not Found And Slow Computer?
Dec 3, 2011I've had this Sony Vaio VPCEE3WFX/BJ for about a year now. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. My little sister was on it and was playing Poptropica and that was the only thing she did on there. After shutting down the computer, I didn't turn it on until the next day. After pressing the power button, I got the Vaio screen or whatever the screen is called. After that screen has loaded, Operating System Not Found appears out of nowhere. I turned the computer on and off a couple of times but I still received the "Operating System Not Found" After I tried turning it off and on, I tried turning it on again but pressing F8 so that I could get some start up options. I was able to get to the screen and select "Start Windows Normally" From that point, I can get to the login screen and my desktop. The only problem with that is that it takes around 20 minutes to get to the login screen. Once I enter my password, it takes around 10 minutes to get past the login screen. Once past the screen, I get a black screen with the cursor in the middle. If I wait around an hour or so, the desktop will finally load and I will be able to do what I please with one condition. If try and open a program or anything it takes around 10 minutes to load it up and if I try to load a page on Google Chrome, it takes around 5 minutes just for one page.I was thinking about calling Sony to see if there was any way I could send in the laptop for repair before the warranty expires which is in just a couple of weeks.
I have tried Startup Repair but it was no help because I get errors when I try and click some of the solutions. ( I can't remember what the errors say) Also, would re-installing Windows 7 solve the problem? The laptop did not come with a recovery disk or Windows 7 installation disk.Edit: I forgot to mention that I ran 2 virus scans (one from AVG and one from Malwarebytes) and the results came out clean except a file that AVG reported was unsafe due to little known users using it. I ignored it but still deleted it because it was a program one of my teachers told me to download from the home website. (the program was Autodesk Inventor 2011)

Feb 20, 2012I have had Win 7 64bit installed on my C: Partition which contains System Files and Program Files. Data is stored on Partition E:. The System has functioned perfectly until straight after installing updates on 16/02/2012. I believe some of these updates were: KB2660465, KB2645640, KB2654428 and an Office 2007 Update. The Update Install procedure called for a System Restart which for unknown reasons booted to Safe Mode. I performed a Restart which booted correctly and I continued to work for the rest of the day. Next morning it booted to ChkDsk running, which apparently found and rewrote Orphaned Files. This activity caused me serious concern.
I ran scans with MSE and MalwareBytes and both were clean.I decided to perform a System Restore back to 12/02/2012 which was a known good Restore Point, created by Critical Update. This Restore has now been running for four hours with the HDD Light blinking. This makes me believe that there is in fact something happening on the HDD, what I do not know.I am aware the System Restore must not be stopped once started. The Question now is: How much longer should I allow it to run?? or Should I kill it now???If I were to Kill It now, what would I then have to do???I have never known System Restore to take so long before. I see this as being abnormal. I do not want to destroy two months of installation work.
Computer Running Super Slow And System Restore Failure?
Dec 23, 2011I have an Acer Aspire timeline computer I bought 2 years ago. This computer advertised great battery life, internal cooling, and all sorts of other cool things....unfortunately, it was all a lie. But enough about that, As of like 3 days ago, I noticed my computer would respond slowly and take forever to complete a shutdown. I thought nothing of it until I decided to scan it usingSuperAntiSpyware. It came back with 40 tracking cookies, which I deleted. Upon rebooting my computer, I noticed it was still running slowly. So I decided a system restore would be niceI tried the first availible restore date. That apparently failed. Then I tried several others, with no success. I kept getting error codes telling me that the system restore failed to extract the file. It said the disk failiure might have been caused by bad sectors....I have no idea what that means. Ive tried multiple restore dates, they all come back with the same message.
I do not have Norton on my computer ( I read this was part of the problem in many other machines with the same restore error, but just to make it clear, that is not part of the problem with my computer). I can only use my computer in safe mode, because the regular boot mode is wayy too slow and laggy. Also I have plenty space on my computer so it couldnt possibly be slowing down because its getting full or something.
Very Slow Cold Boot But On Reboot System Runs Normal?
Nov 25, 2010My office system is a Dell w/ Win7 and it's been running fine up until 1 month ago. Then it started this odd behavior. On a cold boot it runs about 5x to 20x times slower than normal, almost as if it's just running on a single core locked at 5%. Boot time to hit splash screen is 2.5 to 4.5 minutes (normal is 30 secs). And once I hit return on my pwd the system continues to run in super slow motion. If I just force a reboot, select Boot Windows Normally from the trouble menu, the the system boots in 30 secs, logs in fine, and runs normally.My boss has told me that other Win7 computers he owns/operates are now doing the same thing.I've no idea what could be causing this. Hearing that other Win7 computers are doing it tends to make me believe it isn't a problem specific to this computer or even this small office network. There are no USB devices other than the mouse and keyboard and we've switched those out. We'd recently installed virus protection software, but we removed that and the problem still continues.
The only other thing I can think of, is that we recently installed a printer driver so the system could print to a Brothers laser printer attached via USB to a computer across the local network. And come to think of it, my system wouldn't even see that printer and allow driver installation until we plugged the printer directly into my system. After installation we moved the printer back, and changed the settings for the system to find the printer across the network. I'll look into uninstalling that driver next time I'm in the office.
Update: New day, new slow boot. This time I forced an early reboot and I got the option to start a Windows Startup Repair. I started that, skipped doing a System Restore and let it run. Finally it came back with all tests fine except the following which crashed: System Files Integrity Check and Repair , Failed , Error Code #0x490 , Time Taken = 541573 ms. So it looks like the test that checks for problems crashed, leaving me to wonder if there might still be some hidden problem. And yet reboots run perfectly normal.
System Hangs When Trying To Access Downloads Folder / Opens Very Slow

I've tried the following till now and havn't yet solved this problem.Scanned for viruses or spywares in the system. Used MBAM and TDSSKiller. No infections.Switched the View of that folder from Large Icons to Detail or List View.Customized the folder for "General" items. Right click on folder->Properties->Customize tab->Optimize this folder for General ItemsDefragmented the folder using Piriform Defraggler.So anyone knows what's going wrong with my system.

Now when using the computer it sometimes becomes very slow and the mouse lags and if I am playing music at the time, the sound becomes slow and badly distorted high screeching sounds. * boot computer
* Windows boot screen displayed ~ 1 minute
* screen goes black. Can move mouse. Drive light constantly on, not blinking. ~ 5 minutes
* log in screen comes up / log in
* Desktop loads ~ 1 minute > sometimes it loads with regular windows aero theme other times it loads with basic windows classic theme.
* Error message pop up "failed to connect to System event notification service"
* Have to wait for about 5 more minutes before computer is actually usable
* Occasionally the audio service does not work as well...
From when I press the power button to when I can actually use my computer takes 10 - 15 minutes. Here is what I have tried so far:
* Turning off all start up programs / services
* Uninstalled AVG anti virus
* PC Tools Registry mechanic registry clean up
* Tested Memory - passed
* Hard Drive Self Test ---- # 1 - 7 fail / #10008 Fail > I am guessing that this is the source of the problem, however my computer does still work once everything is finally booted. So I don't know what to do with that information or if that test even matters.
* I have tried looking at the event viewer but every time it says that the event log service is unavailable > I try turning on Windows Event Log but that does not change anything
* I tried "netsh winsock reset" in command prompt, based on a different thread that I found - it didn't work

USB Sticks Slow Transfer Speeds, System Takes Forever To Load Drivers?
Jan 31, 2012have been struggling with my system taking 2-3 minutes to find drivers for any memory stick I plug in to any of 3 USB ports on my Acer 1810T. When the process finally completes, the transfer speeds are about 1MB/s or less.Another (possibly related?) problem is when I insert any SD card in the dedicated slot for the first time, everything is fine. Once I remove and either re-insert (or insert a different card), nothing appears. I get a message saying "process is already in memory". I have to reboot to get things working again.

It takes forever to bootup, startup and it sometime hangs when I open up a program or typing.For the bootup, it takes very long time on the window logo, after that the black screen, followed by the welcome page with the loading cursor. Each of this process take a long time. For startup, its not so long but its still quite lag. For the opening up of program and typing, everytime I open up my visual studio, it will take a long time to show up and even if it showed up, it will be "not responding".So I will have to open it a second time before I can start using itWhen I am typing my codes, it will randomly hang and show that the program is not responding. I am still able to move my cursor though.

Lately whenever i try to start my computer it pass the Dell Bios and then directly goes to the screen which states
Repair your system or Start windows normally When i chose repair system , it start downloading windows files and then launch the windows , but hung up at the sky blue login window with only movable cusor . When i choose to start windows normally it gives me BSOD momentarly ( hard to see the message) and then restarts again . i tried with the advanced boot up options like
repair my computer , all safe modes , restore to last good configuration but it does the same and hangs at windows loging sky blue window .I Tried to run the Dell PSA+ Diagnostic and it returns with 2000-0146 error . As per the Dell online solutions for this type of error ,I tried to reinstall the Hard disk but the problem still exist.
Windows 7 Won't Boot - No Operating System Listed / System Partition Not Valid
Oct 19, 2011Suddenly my Win 7 Home Premium x64 will not boot. The system starts, POSTs then loads the DVD driver, then the screen goes black (not blank but "lit up" black if that makes sense). Then nothing. If I use Hiren's boot cd I can boot up using the "boot from HDD" option fine and Windows operates normally. System restore to a previous configuration made no difference to the original problem. I cannot boot into Safe Mode. F8 just offers me boot order options.
- Running the Windows 7 DVD I find: "No operating system is listed on the Repair Windows option."
- Running Startup Repair finds the following error: "the partition table does not have a valid system partition" which it claims to have repaired, but the error remains and Windows will still not boot.
I followed this advice:
Boot 7 dvd to system recovery options command prompt. Type: Diskpart
list vol (find the vol letter e.g C or partition number e.g. 1 for the system partition )
Sel vol C ( or sel vol 1, obviously use the correct letter or number)
act exi
My system partition was easily identified and listed as healthy so I selected it and made it active. The problem still remains exactly the same. My system is self built just over a year ago, to my knowledge has been running fine, without any hardware issues. I'm prepared to do a clean install if that's what it takes but if there is a way to fix the partition problem without that I'd like to explore it first.
Missing Operating System" Error Massage When System Starts?
Feb 18, 2012"Missing operating system" massage is coming when i start my system and i am not able to start. I think because , i had given "mark partition as active" option for one hard dive (E) in disk management when last time i opened. it did not have any data. i did not know, this will make any problem. Now i am not able to boot windows re installation dvd also. i can only take BIOS settings.
