Windows 7 recently updated with about 17 additions.Is it policy to take a systems back-up (originally carried out after purchase on two DVD's)?If the answer is yes (which seems logical) can it be carried out on an external hard drive since the notices appear to only mention USBs or DVDs?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was clicking around in my C drive because I was trying to find a folder that was hidden. I right clicked, click properties, selected the "hidden" folder attribute to the administrator folder, and clicked apply to all folders, subfolders, etc. I realized this was not the right thing because it just hid all the folders inside, so I undid it.Afterwards, it kicked me off of skype and when I tried to log on again, it said my disk was full when it is obviously not and gave me the "disk i/o error"In addition, I clicked firefox and it gave me a dialog box that said "Could not initialize the browser security component, etc etc and gave me another warning about my disk being full.What did I do? Obviously my disk is not full but these two programs think it is full and is giving me error messages.

I can't understand why I even need them, as I uninstalled net framework. Notice how the update at 8:17 AM., KB2656368, is the same as one of the 4 updates installed at 7:47 PM. Windows wants to install the same four kb files again.How do I stop this?

I know this has been raised in the past but my problem is slightly different.I prefer to choose "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", however periodically the settings change without my consent to "Never check for updates".This is very frustrating as I am constantly having to keep an eye on this, and change the settings back to what they were in order to receive critical updates, or indeed any other update.The laptop was bought new just under 12 months ago and came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit pre-installed.Has anyone else experienced this, or can anyone advise on a fix?

I am unable to connect to MSE to get updates or to Windows to get updates. I have run Malwarebytes and Emsisoft and neither one can find a bug. I knew there would be a lot of updates and there is 92 to start with. It didn't give me the options to update a few at a time. I made a thread a few days ago about not being able to install a specific update. Now I've discovered I cannot install ANY updates. I've tried disableing my anti-virus, firewall, tried manually dling the update from M$, even tried installing the updates on a newly created admin account, and no luck. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?

These errors arises as a result from Windows Update, several updates don't intend to install i.e VS SP1 2005 comprises the update error resulting many update downloads but not one is installed successfully.
Any tips on solving this nonsense issue?
My computer downloaded updates for my Laptop. Upon restarting to install the updates it reaches a point and can not install certain updates. All it shows is fatal error.Every time i switch off the laptop and restart it, it re-installs but on reaching that particular point, an error code is created.

So everything seems to be working fine but when i click start and shut down, the shut down has the shield logo thing next to it for updates and when i click on shutdown it says theres 92 updates. So i waited for it to install them and when its done it configures them and windows comes back up. But then when i go to shutdown again it still says theres 92 updates to install and does it all again.

I seem to have resolved that issue, but now ALL of my miscrosoft documents, pictures, etc. that were in files are gone. The file folders apeear as usual, but they are now completely empty. In addition, my Libraries folders no longer appear (My Documents, My Pictures, My Videos)
