The usual utilities associated with ATI catalyst software, my Kaspersky security software, the weather channel app. But then this one started, and the only thing I could see on the taskbar looked like an open application such as Word - and a title of MyOleComputerWi..., and a small black square maybe two inches square on the screen. I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop. Inside the program "Dell Support Center" it tells me that BITS - Demand Started to Auto Started. I don't know what BITS is. It runs in the System Services. Should I disable the BITS?

So i come to you guys as a last result after spending large amounts of time and money trying to, troubleshoot my own issue. Before i dive into details, im 95% sure that my issue is caused by overheating, i just dont know what and why.As of roughly 3-4 months ago i began having issues with my computer randomly shutting off while playing high intensity games (BF3 on medium which caused my HD5670/CPU to run at ~90-100% capacity). It wouldnt blue screen it would just turn off. Upon shutting down it wouldnt boot for between 15 minutes to even 4-5 hours (where i would pull the whole thing apart in exasperation and upon putting it back together it would boot). So over the next few months i did the following in an attempt to fix/stop the issue (dot pointed so you guys dont TLR)
My computer has been acting up in increasingly odd ways for no apparent reason. Firstly my computer will, seemingly at random freeze up, my monitor will go blank, and it will pop back up, occasionally with an error shown below.It has also caused my flash player to randomly crash as well. I've done plenty of virus checks, but every time it comes up clean and nothing changes. I'm not sure what to do.

Everything seems to be running fine but now everytime I start my computer there are about 20 windows that open up. Almost seems like it is a brand new computer. Some of them are windows programs that are starting i.e. fax/scan etc that have never opened before as well as about 15 windows that open folders that say: windows-startmenu-programs-startup-then a myriad of various HP, lightscribe, games etc. It appears it is opening every file. How do I keep them from opening like before.

I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem I have experienced recently. Since a week ago, my computer has started to freeze at random times, which would lead to some random applications closing such as chrome or microsoft security control. I can still use my mouse and such, but the computer would be completely unresponsive. I have tried to do clean installs, with vista, and the problem still persists. I then used windows 7 to do a clean install and the problem still occurs. And at almost every startup the CHKDSK runs. I tried updating my graphics card, and still nothing has happened.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my computer's hard drives started clicking, both of them. I wasn't able to copy off my files or boot up as it would constantly freeze. So in order to save my data I bought a sata to usb cable to connect to my laptop to copy off the data. When I connected it I was able to save all my data and the hard drive didn't freeze one bit...a friend of mine suggested that it wasn't the hard drive but in fact the power supply that was causing it. Could it really be that or is my HD really dying or is it something else?

View 6 Replies View Relatedmy computer started freezing on on the windows loading screen, so i had to turn my computer off again, wait a few seconds and start it agin, it then worked on the second time. i couldnt get into any kind of safemode.when i got into windows i had loads of generic win32 errors, i couldnt acess the internet or any anti spy/virus programs. i shut it down and it hangs so i have to manually swith it off.i was on xp so i thought i would format my computer and install windows 7. This has helped with all the win32 errors but my computer still freezes on start up at the windows loading screen and still requires me to swith it off and restart it, this works most of the time. might have to do this 2 or 3 times.i have looked in the events viewer and it says i have 3 errors: error 6 kernel process power / restart manager.

I have tryed dusting the computer and the prosessor, I have tryed using uniblue speed up my pc, registry cleaner, drivers update. Did run all of them didnt help. I have de-fraged. I have installed avg free protection, and i connected an old ide hard drive, installed a clean windows 7 with drivers, and games like mineraft were still laggy.
My HP laptop screen just went black and it started humming and I can't shut it down? What going to happen after the battery runs sown?

View 10 Replies View RelatedOur office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
I have recently built a new computer and installed Windows 7 on it. At first the operating system could only see 1 of my 1TB hard drives. So I formatted the second to NTFS by using ubuntu live cd. Now my windows system can see the hard drive and I can open it with right mouse click--->open, and can write to it. When I try and double click the drive in My Computer it comes up with a pop up saying E: Application not found. Where I can set the double mouse click to open it?

I don't what happened but all of a sudden a message box opens up on my windows 7 laptop and it says this " the application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" . I clicked ok but the error message box keeps returning back.If i remember properly, this happened when I tried installing some wallpaper.system seems to be working finw with all applications, but this message box is quite annoying.
