Broadcom USB Smart Card Reader Not Working
After upgrading my Vista Business SP2 (32-bit) to Windows 7 Ultimate RC (32-bit) my Broadcom USB smart card reader does not work any longer (Dell Latitude E6400 with built in smart card reader).
The newest available driver from dell support was already tested (Broadcom, driver date 09/23/2008, version 1.0.0.1, digitally signed WHQL, released by dell in March 09), but the device can not start (Error code 10) with Windows 7.

With the Microsoft WUDF Driver (Usbccid, driver date 06/21/2006, version 6.1.7100.0) the device starts but whenever I insert my smart card an additional device is detected (other device - smart card) but no driver found - Error message is: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28).

What else can I try to get this reader working again (with vista sp2 the smart card reader was working fine with the broadcom driver)?

Akasa Internal Smart Card Reader Does Not Work
I have installed this reader on my Asus Rampage Extreme MoBo, plugging it in to 2 different USB headers and, although there is power to it as the blue power light is illuminated, and I get a red light when plugging a Compact Flash card in Windows7 RC1Â does not recognize the reader.

I have installed the software using Vista SP2 compatibility mode and Vista compatibility mode, both with and without running as administrator I get a device status of 'Device cannot start (Code 10)'.

There are no Win7 drivers for this reader on Akasa's web site.

Does anyone know of a different card reader which will work with Win7?

I need some Drivers for my computer I bought at Cyberpower pc. It's an x- infinity case. It's about 5 years old. They said they don't have the driver's anymore. Wondering I somebody here has them. Drivers for the USB smart card.

Smart Card Driver
W7 RC is requesting a driver for my smartcard. The smartcard reader is properlly installed and W7 reports no issues with it.

Same hardware/smartcard is working under Vista. Any idea?

Smart Card Compatibility
Can someone shed some light for me on the elusive Smart Card driver issue present in Windows 7.7600?Â First off finding a PC/SC reader that would work was a challenge,Â I settled on the SCM3310 reader, but now I cannot find a "card" that windows will see and speak too. From the logon screen, it says insert SC. Once inserted it says it searching for drivers, then it fails. Reporting Smart Card error. I have used the Gemalto .NET Bio card, and a standard card, as well as an ActivCard. Please advise, im stumped.

PS. I have tested this within 2008R2 as well as 7.

Smart Card Issue
I do own a SmartCard Reader, which seems to work under W7 properly, but I'm getting no success with the smartcard itself.

I do have the same software installed in Windows Vista x64 and W7. Vista works perfect, W7 doesn't.

Even tho the reader can access to the smart card and show me details about the certificate stored on it, I can't authenticate into any webpage.

Any help on this? Is anyone else having issues with smartcards?

W7 Beta running on an AMD Semprom 3200+ (1800Mhz) with 2 Gbs of RAM and a built-in Nvidia 6100 VGA, and mate, it runs like a charm! And now on my VAIO FE31M Laptop.

Smart Card And BitLocker
I am trying to use the PIV card for BitLocker Drive Encryption. The smart card has an encryption certificate and authentication certificate. I get an error message that "A certificate suitable for BitLocker cannot be found on your smart card".

My encryption certificate has no Enhanced Key Usage field and the key usage attribute is set to Key encipherment. As per the Microsoft documentation http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd875548(WS.10).aspx it should work, but it does not. Any ideas/suggestions?

Gemalto Smart Card
This isn't really a driver issue but more of a some help with local policy / permissions (I think).

I have just put a new Windows 7 PC on our domain and I am having a few troubles getting the Gemalto Smart card to work as a user. This card has the Gemplus esigner which lets us authenticate to connect back to our bank for secure banking.

Basically this PC is in a domain which locks the desktop and programs down so a user cannot access Programs etc. We then place an RDP icon in the start menu and they access their programs via RDP into a terminal server. Only a few programs are run locally on the PC.

When we install the Gemalto software on an XP machine we set permissions on the installation folder for everyone to have read / write access along with the registry key and this works fine an allows users to be able to use this on the local PC.

With Windows 7 I have tried this but I keep getting "Cannot fine the certificate store" error – however this works as administrator (local PC) which leads me to a permissions thing or a domain setting.

I can insert the smart card and manually import the certificate which reports successful yet the same error occurs.

Has anyone else has this issue or can anyone point me in the right direction?

Drivers Not Found For Smart Card
We are using SCR3311 card reader to connect smart card to our java application. It works fine with Windows XP, VISTA and Windows 2008 server 64bit OS. But when we use the card reader with Windows 7 64 bit or windows 7 32 bit, it doesnot work properly. On inserting the card into the card reader it says drivers could not be installed properly.

BitLockerToGo Smart Card Issue
I am trying to encypt a USB Flash Drive with BitLockerToGO using Smartcard as an authentication.
When iÂ insert the smard card into the smart card reader, it says that theÂ card is available for use. However, the card is not the one being requested, and cannot be used for the current operation.
The smart card reader is CCID USB ReaderÂ

The smart card inserted is ActivCard ActivClient (Oberthur CosmopollC 64K V5.2)

Windows 7 Smart Card Logon
Testing PKI with Windows 7Â x64Â underÂ a (otherwise) working public key infrastructure (Windows 2008 CA) using Smart Card certificates based on V2 templates. I've enrolled an AD user successfully with a smartcardÂ and validating the cert it looks all ok (via certutil -scinfo). For all intents and purposes the smart cardÂ appears ok butÂ when I try to logon with theÂ user and the smartcard inserted in the machine, I get the following error message:

"The system could not log you on.Â You cannot use a smart cardÂ to log on because smart card login is not supported for your user account. Contact your system administrator to ensure that smart card logon is configured for your organization."

Kind of weird message :-/Â The smart card reader isÂ in-builtÂ onÂ a Dell E6400 ATG... the smart card itself is a Gemalto .NET based card. I've validated that the cert is correctly written to theÂ card via the netsolutions site at Gemalto ... WindowsÂ 7 reads the smart cardÂ andÂ the user ID correctly from the GUI Logon screen ... it's only when I enter the PIN and it attempts to logon do I get the above message....

Is there anything "special" I need to do in Windows 7 or in group policy to enable smart card support?? This has worked fine in the past on XP....

Both the smart card service and the certificate propogation serviceÂ are running..

Virtual PC RC Smart Card Not Recognized
issue I am having as it is causing me to need to carry a second laptop.I am running RTM Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I have installed the RC for Windows Virtual PC and created another Windows 7 virtual machine as well as downloaded and enabled XP Mode. I am trying to connect via VPN to a corporate network that requires Smart Card authentication.

I have ensured that Integration Features are enable, and the smart card reader is installed, but any time I try to connect it states the following. A smart card was detected but is not the one required for the current operation.

The smart card you are using may be missing required driver software or a required certificate.I can't seem to find a way to get it to recognize the smart card itself, not the reader.In my host Windows 7 machine it works just fine.The smart card reader is the following from Device ManagerTexas Instruments PCI GemCore based SmartCard controller, it is PCI based, and has the default Windows 7 driver from GEmplus Version 1.0.1.20

The smart Card is the following from Device ManagerGemalto .NET Smart Card with the default Windows 7 driver from Gemalto Version 8.1.0.1 The VPN dialer starts but it states to please insert a smart card, if you look at details it knows there is a smart card in the slot but gives the message above that it isn't a valid smart card.Â

It does this with both the XP mode machine and the Windows 7 machine that I have created manually.Has anyone experienced this or could provide additional steps to make this work.

Smart Card Dialog Popup
We have an issue in smart card dialog popup with Win7

If you try to sign any data with Smart Card, user is asked to insert his smart card in the reader and thenÂ enter his PIN. Now as long as card is not removed from the reader, user is not asked to enter PIN every you call sign API and data is signed correctly.

If you pull smart card out, then user is asked to insert card and enter PIN when signing API is called, but after that even if the card is left in the reader, user is asked for PIN every time you call sign operation.

This only happens on Win7, we have tested on Vista, 2003 and XP and it does not ask PIN again and again for each operation after you Â pull smart card out and put back in. I have tried creating a new instance of RSACryptoServiceProvider on every signing call or used singleton implementation both and problem persists in both implementations.

Does anyone have idea on what is changed in Win7 ? and what is the fix for this? Below is the sample code which repros the condition.

Smart Card Integration With Bitlocker
I have read about bit locker feature in Windows 7 and i need some clarifications for following queries. I appreciate if someone can answer.

1) We cant use smart card certificates to encrypt operating system drive. Please confirm?

2) If i use USB Flash driver to encrypt operating system drive, in that case can i use smart card certificates to encrypt Fixed, removable and other partition(like D, E) drives? I know if i have TPM enabled on my hardware then i can use smart card to encrypt my fixed and removable drives.

3) What certificate template i have to use to issue certificates for my smart cards ( i am using Windows Server 2003).

Smart Card Readers Get An Extra Driver
I am working for a smart card reader company, and was checking Windows 7 with our existing drivers.

I noticed that on installation Smart card readers get an extra driver (scfilter.sys, some class driver).

This would be fine with me, although i am not sure what it does exactly...

Next to that, whenever I insert a smart card, Windows 7 tries to install a device!!
Weird for me, but as long as it works, I in fact do not care too much ;)

But unfortunately in some cases, like:Â 'combined' drivers using a bus-driver, a virtual reader/card driver, this prevents the drivers to work?

In the case of the bus driver it does not load the other function drivers, the virtual reader driver (where a buddy driver takes on the role of the card) the reader/'card' insertion is never noticed.

Is there anywhere where I can find info on this and on how to solve this??

Smart Card Certificate Problem - W7 Beta, X86
I am having an issue with an Aladdin eToken R2. I use the smart card to store a digital certificate & keys for my online banking.Having migrated from WinXP to Vista it worked flawlessly. Now, on W7 it doesn't.I managed to isolate the problem by starting the eToken application and testing if i can read the certificates/keys on the smartcard.

I can't, here is the error :eToken error occurred.Action:Â Â Read CSP information in [name of smart card device]Error code: 0x80090006.Description:Â Invalid Signature.Again, this is not a driver problem and don't think is application related because it worked on Vista.I would appreciate any kind of help except sending me to talk to the vendor.Â -

Dell Latitude D600 Smart Card Problem
I have a Dell Latitude D600, which has a smart card reader i have been longing to try out. I managed to get ahold of a smart card at one of our library branches seeing as i didn't have easy access to any, and it was cheaper than ones online. What i did not realize is that a domain was needed to set it up, and that is alot of work just to log on with a smart card. When i got the windows 7 beta, i was ecstatic to see that it had the credential manager, with the ability to add smart card certificates.

Now the only issue is i cannot get it to accept my smart card because it cannot find drivers. I managed to get ahold of a brand new Giesecke & Devrient SIM card from somebody who did not need the new sim. This card is also not recognized. I tried using the semi-generic ones included with 7, and they work fine with the cards, but the credential manager still thinks they need drivers.

How can i get it to let me use the cards with the generic drivers, or does any one know how i can get the ones for the cards themselves. Only issue is i have no idea what models either of them are. Im pretty sure the first is a Gemalto, but i am not sure.

Our company implement ipsec l2tp vpn with smartcard authentication to corporate isa server 2006 vpn server. Our solution works fine with Windows XP and Windows Vista, but with windows 7 we have a problem. When we try to connect from windows 7 workstation to our isa 2006 vpn server a strange error message popup, which states "The local Securiry Authority cannot be contacted".

In isa server system log, we found following error message "The user ****** has connected and failed to authenticate on port *****. The line has been disconnected" and "The user ***** connected from ***.****.***.*** but failed ana authentication attempt due to the following reason: The supplied message is incomplete. The signature is not verified"

HP Nw8000 SD Card Reader
I'm running Windows 7 RC on HP nw8000 and I'm pretty sure the card reader worked ok on Vista Ultimate 32.

Has anyone found a driver for the built-in SD card reader? HP doesn't list anything past XP on their site, not even for Vista for this device for this notebook.

All In One USB 2.0 Card Reader No Drivers?
im running an evga sli 58x, and windows 7 64bit 7077

i have the RC1 version of windows 7 but i hate to install that and as i have all my games and everything id have to reinstall with it(major pain) plus im not even sure if that would fix my problem

anyways when i plug my card reader in i can't access it at all, it does show up in device manager but it says drivers not installed. I don't think they make this card reader anymore and there would be drivers floating around for a card reader, so what are my choices?

USB All In 1 Mini Card Reader
I bought this Generic USB All in 1 Mini Card Reader off eBay (Some Cheap chinese thing) It worked fine on my previous setup, Windows Vista x64, and it still works on my fathers computer, Vista x64 I believe. But When I try to connect it to my current Windows 7 x64 install, it justs gives me an I/O device error, I think it might have something to do with the Device driver for Win 7 It might not be compatible, I don't know just thought somebody might have an idea if I can get it to work in Windows 7.

Drivers For EMachines Card Reader
before i gutted it out and put all new stuff in, my computer was once an eMachines C6415. it has a built in card reader that 7 identifies, but just as a generic card reader. there are windows xp drivers for it that will give them certain icons and specify what kind of slot they are, but i can't find any for 7. they work and all, but i want them to show up in my computer with all the correct information (instead of the generic icon that just says "removable drive"). i can't find any 7 drivers for it. any help?

Ricoh SD/MMC Card Reader
on my laptop (ASUS Z91N), I've got one left driver issue: the integrated memory card reader.

It's called Ricoh SD/MMC controller, the latest driver having the best behavior found is 2003-10-20 (1.4.2.9) from ASUS website for WinXP. All other drivers found does nothing, they install but when I plug the card, nothing appears in "My computer".

The problem is that when I plug a SD card, windows detects it, assigns a letter, but I am unable to open to look at the files. I get "Access denied" every time.

When I try to format, it does it with the good size detected! I tested by looking with another computer.

So, this problem is weird, I never had any issue similar to that in the past.

Anybody here having the same problem?
