how can i choose a user in the win 7 welcome screen using only the keyboard (without using the mouse)?
I'm hoping there is some sort of key combination that may be used to choose the user so that i won't have to use the mouse in order to login.
I would prefer not having to change the standard welcome screen to the domain login screen in which i believe it is possible. I'm using Win 7 professional.
I've been having trouble with my new motherboard BioStar TZ68K+ . Whenever I access the BIOS, the selection keeps moving up as if the "up arrow" key on the keyboard was stuck. My keyboard is connected via purple PS2 in the back. I tried with a different keyboard, this time a USB connection, and still the same result. It seems to be happening only in the BIOS as it doesn't do any strange behaviour when I'm in Windows. I updated the BIOS to the latest version and cleared the CMOS using the jumper on the board.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.
It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
8 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
When I took over a PC used by my predecessor, he had Win 7 (MS keyboard) set up so that the Windows key to the right of the space bar and Alt key will dump "http://www." into any open text field. This saves me a lot of time on a repetitive task with our software. However, when I asked one of our best developers how I could assign "mailto:" to another key, he had no idea how the existing functionality was set up. Googling "Windows 7 hotkeys" didn't find me any tips. What to do?

This problem was much worse when I was having problems with McAfee, and seemed to stop once I solved those.However I have noticed that it is still occurring, just not as often. This happens in Chrome and in Windows.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed on a Dell Xps 15z-i7.I have read most of the windows forum suggestions on this topic, and none have work for more than a week or two. I have run ARO software checks and Advanced System Care 6 Pro.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7 32 bits, and had no trouble till yesterday. For a year and so, always update and have no problem. But last update made computer go crazy.It did no turn off by herself, it took more than half an hour, so I turned it off pressing power button. After that, when booting, it shows users screen, enter pass and it freezes in the "welcome" screen, with the little think turning arround forever.So far, tried with safe mode. Thing is, VERY weird, it never happened beforme to me, even on XP, there is NO chance of a previous good cofiguration. So, when I try to go back to previous state of those beautiful updates, I cannot, for there is no chance. I don't know why, seems like it was turned off. When xp user, had so many time system back that way.
Also tryed changing to "backup" files of SYSTEM and SOFTWARE, in :WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGREGBACK I don't know if doing it right, apparently not =P copied back files from that directory in system32config and restarted, but same thing happens.I am using the same machine to post this, with another HD, so I think that it's no hard problem, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to use it. Runs games and stuff, so it's OK I guess.Also tryed, before, CHKDISK and defrag.Now I have the "good" disk, from where I boot, and the other connected, and can access to old Windows, and disk itself, so, I guess too that the HD works fine.
Having selected the messages I wish to delete in my inbox I then wish to "Select All" , how to do this totally defeats me at the moment ! (Its very time consuming selecting one at a time for deletion ! )
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two hard drives, C and D. I had Windows 7 installed on both at one point. Now, I only have Windows 7 installed on C. However, it still comes up asking which installation it wishes me to boot on startup.
I was getting annoyed by this, so I followed a guide that told me how to stop it, by unticking the "Wait 30 seconds before selecting" option.
Now, however, on booting, Windows automatically selects the WRONG installation, which gives me a 0xc000000f error with device inaccessible. I need to get into my C: version of windows to retick that box until I can figure out how to get rid of the menu the correct way.
Booting from disk to repair doesn't do anything, I've tried repairing both installations but it didn't help.
i am having trouble repairing the error. i have tried all the bootrec commands etc nothing is working do not really want to reinstall as it has important files on it . problem occured after wife installed some software that worked fine on her old xp system

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my friends laptop, when she boots it up, it gets to the log-on screen and instead of having her account there, it's just the blank blue background and it doesn't say the Windows 7 bit at the bottom of the screen or have the shut down/sleep mode options and the cursor is in the middle of the screen, but it's not the normal cursor, it's larger and looks like the cursor from older versions of Windows. It is also frozen in place, and you can't move it. And when you close her laptop, it stays on instead of going black. We've tried looking it up already, but it's either just people having similar problems on other operating systems or people who are only missing some user accounts and can still log in on one. We're pretty sure it can't be a virus, because she scans her PC regularly with Avast, MalwareBytes, SUPERAntiSpyware and Spybot. (She also has McAfee, which came with her PC and when she tried to uninstall it, it made her computer bluescreen and then start frequently bluescreening randomly for a while, but soon stop)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently just battled the virus Win32:Small-NNE [trj] from the Anti-Phishing Domain Adviser program that was installed, without my knowledge. Now that it is removed and I am declared virus free by Avast, Malwarebyes and Spybot Search and Destroy I started my computer up in normal mode. However, after logging in it is just black with a white cursor. I have two monitors, but in case it matters there is only one cursor and it can move to either screen. I cannot access crtl + alt + del for the task manager and it just sits and sits. I didn't have the patience to wait more than ten minutes because I know its not supposed to do that. Prior to the virus issue it booted in less than thrity seconds all the way to my desktop. Oh, and the time from log-in to supposed desktop screen is longer than usual but still not more than a minute or two. is this repairable or did the virus do permanent damage to my pc? If it is, please please instruct me on how to fix it, since it does still run in safe mode.

When I hit winflag+L it just displays a picture of my account and a "Switch User" button, which for me serves no purpose what so ever.Is there any way I can regain Windows XP's user switch functionality in Windows 7, where winflag+L takes me directly to the user list on the login screen?

Basically it shows the user boxes with the same name twice, (both with the same password, picture, etc.) It's not really a problem, just kind of annoying to me for some reason.

The problem is when using a program (such as Freestar AMR MP3 Converter) I cannot select multiple files at once. This can make using the program extremely tedious and time-consuming if there are large numbers of files to convert. It is not just this one program that does it, because other programs also fail to allow me to select multiple files. Again, I must state that this only seems to happen when using certain programs and not generally in Windows 7. Also, a small unrelated question: how do I get out of 'Libraries' view in My Documents and basically disable the Libraries view permanently, and just have it normal like in all earlier versions of Windows?

View 1 Replies View Relatedrecently my laptop (Toshiba Portege R830) started to freeze on the login screen almost everytime I power it up. As soon as I enter the login screen (the screen where you choose which user you want to log in with), my laptop just plain freezes: nothing works except shutting it down and restarting and praying. But sometimes it works and doesn't freeze, strangely (like right now).When I open my laptop in safe mode, it always work. There isn't any problem at all.I did a chkdsk in the console command screen (the famous cmd.exe) and also checked for any ''integrity problems'' (sfc/scannow I think it was) but it came up with nothing.I know it's vague but this is all I know. Does anyone know what might cause freezes on the login screen when you have to choose user? Personally I'd say this isn't related to hardware since the computer is like 2 or 3 months old, which there isn't much stuff on it right now too. It's also not a virus, I didn't do anything shady (yet) with this laptop.
I also have another small problem with my user folder. It's the default folder located at C:Users/(my name). It has been acting strangely since I had this computer. Sometimes when I delete one of the annoying useless folders like ''Favorites'' or ''Searches'' they don't disappear right away. I have to refresh the page to make it disappear for real, and this is troubling me because I never saw anything like that before. Usually when you delete something, it just goes away instantly. Also, I backup'ed some of the folders in the user folder on an external hard drive and sometimes when I power up my external hard drive some duplicate folders are created, which is so unbelievably annoying since when they keep coming back and I have to refresh everything to confirm I really deleted them
For some reason my Win7/64 is now insisting on showing the user login screen. In Win7/32 mode the user login screen does not show. How does one get rid of the idiotic user login screen and just boot into the desktop? I've tried using the various .msc apps suggested on the MS forums but they either hang the system or don't exist.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSome background; I am a quadriplegic and use a combination of a mouth operated mouse, voice recognition and the on-screen keyboard to control the PC. I also have a high level of PC knowledge (I used to be an IT consultant) but I have been unable to resolve the following issue.
Sometimes when I hover over the onscreen keyboard to type in an application (like notepad) it will automatically switch to the last application I was typing in (like firefox or Internet Explorer). It does not happen all the time and it does not happen if I use the applications in quick succession (i.e. directly one after the other).
An example, say I have been using firefox and the on-screen keyboard to fill out an online form then I might go move some files around from one hard drive to another. Then I might start Word and dictate a letter using voice recognition (without touching the on-screen keyboard). Then I might need to go back to Windows Explorer to rename a file, so I get file ready to be renamed go to type the name in using the on-screen keyboard and as soon as the cursor goes over the On-screen keyboard it will switch to firefox and make it the active window.
I have tried many times to replicate this to find a distinctive pattern but I have been unsuccessful and it seems to be very much random and quite annoying.
I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this issue and if so have they been able to resolve it.
Is there a way to create a shortcut for the On-Screen Keyboard that can be attached to the Bookmark area in IE and Firefox?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled (Windows 7 Pro x64) on my computer. I want to configure the available keyboard layouts at the login screen. For now, there's 4 different layouts at the login screen and it has keyboard layout French (France) on default.When I got in windows, I configured so it only had the good one (French (Canada))(I deleted all the useless ones) but when I logged out, it still had the 4 same keyboard layouts at login screen. Even the default one wasn't the one I hoped it would use.
