View 1 RepliesI'm currently helping my uncle with his laptop (Acer Aspire 5742Z) running on Windows 7 with a problem stated at the title. I've tried waiting for it to finish up which took a couple of hours but go a BSOD moments after trying to login through windows so after it restarted I canceled the CHKDSK this time and was able to get through windows but everything was running very slow that I could barely open My Computer.
View 3 Replies View Related"Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Product Part No.: X15-37379 Installed from 'OEM' media."Is what Magic Jelly Bean Keyfinder says. The system won't boot, and the COA is mostly unreadable. The key that MJB keyfinder gives me is clearly different from what is on the COA on bottom of laptop. So I first loaded Win 7 HP 64 bit, and got an Activation error, so I reinstalled using Win 7 HP 32 bit, and got the same error. Both installs were done with OEM discs. The machine was working prior to HDD failure, she just doesn't remember what exactly the OS was. What are her/my options to get her up and running without repurchasing a new COA.

Some of the fonts on some websites have changed to look like this image: As you can see, it's very difficult to read. This does not happen in Firefox. I tried going to Chrome settings, to change the fonts under 'web content', but the problem still persists. I've also tried the settings in Win7 control panel, under 'internet options', to no avail.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot machine, Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and Kubuntu 9.10. Everybody was getting along just fine.
Today I booted from Windows, no problem; booted Kubuntu, no problem; then later rebooted to Windows. I now get a message that my Program Files (x86) folder is corrupt and unreadable. [While in Kubuntu I did nothing other than look at the list of files using Kubuntu. No file was opened or modified.]
- I tried dropping to a command prompt to run chkdsk (as recommended by the error screen) but cmd is corrupted
- So I booted off the Windows 7 disk and was able to run chkdsk - no problems found (with the /f and later the /r switches)
When Windows 7 opens, all my 32-bit programs are unusable, and I can't explore the Program Files (x86) folder. Properties lists it as 0 bytes. However, when I browse the folder from a Kubuntu boot, everything seems normal and is accessible.
I (gently) used some Kubuntu ntfs tools (such as ntfsfix to flag the volume as dirty so Windows would check/repair the volume on boot) but got nowhere. [I have no idea if this is useful, but I included the ntfsinfo output from both my Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders.]
Moved doc, docx, xls, xlsx, jpg files from a backup drive to a new computer. Files showed up, and I used them for a few days. As it was a demo computer I changed the owner name via regedit. Then could not locate the files. Have used two undelete programs, these locate the files. When recovered however, although the names show, the contents are unreadable. Went back to the backup drive. Cannot locate the files, even using an undelete program.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm in desperate need to recover things from my corrupted D drive. When I click on it, it says D: is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable. When I restart it always does chkdsk for that drive, but it can't repair the corrupt master file table, and it's the same result where the drive is unreadable. I used the Getdata recover my files software to recover the drive. It didn't find the things I desperately need, and I noticed a bunch of files it recovered is now corrupt. The most important thing I need to recover is a windows movie maker project that I've spent hours upon hours upon hours on for a music video. I so desperately need that .mswmm file. This software found just about all of my windows movie maker projects except that one, just my luck.
The second most important thing I need is my Adobe Audition session files along with the wav's for the sessions. I have a new computer I should be getting today, and my friend will be over in 2 days. I need to figure something out quickly cause he will need to format the drive which will make it lose everything. He is pretty sure that the drive will be unreadable on his laptop which he's bringing over.It recovered 2 936gb files and a 465 gb file with no file extensions that were labeled $BadClus~$Bad_1 $BadClus~$Bad_3
I have Dell 15r, which runs on win 7 home basic, i recently started using toshiba hard disk,i have some files in the external hard disk when i try to move them or delete them i will get this kind of error message. Error : 0x80070570 The file or Directory is corrupted and unreadable.
View 1 Replies View Relatedrecently i've been having a problem when trying to move ISO files from one harddrive to another. I've tried with 3 different ISO files and all come up with the same error:"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.Error 0x80070570: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."First time I got this error i just thought something had gone wrong with the download so i deleted the file and downloaded it again. Same problem. This made me think that maybe it was just that download but now I have tried 2 other files and gotten the same error every time. This only happens with ISO files though as in case it was the harddrive or connection issue I tried transferring some other .avi files and they went across without problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate on two PCs on my home network. I went to use one yesterday and was presented with a black screen. I rebooted the PC hoping that would solve my issue and was presented with the following error message while trying to reboot:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
File: BOOTBCD
Status: 0xc000000d
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data
I checked my other PC and saw that it had been updated with several Windows patches yesterday. I'm guessing that the broken PC had an issue installing or rebooting from one of the patches. I ran the repair utility on the windows 7 dvd as instructed by the error message. It was unable to find a previous installation of windows with an error box saying: The file or directory C:BootBCD is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk utility.
I tried the auto repair anyway, which appears to be working until the end when it gives me the "The file or directory C:BootBCD is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk utility" error again. Then it says it can't save the fixes and says it can't be repaired. When I check the details it says I need to "repair offline" and that it cannot find an OS installed.
In my searches for an answer, I read about rebuilding the BCD through the command prompt. I ran the following commands:
BOOTREC /FIXMBR - said it was successful
BOOTREC /FIXBOOT - said it was successful
BOOTREC /REBUILDBCD - failed saying The file or directory C:BootBCD is corrupt and unreadable please run Chkdsk utility
I ran chkdsk and got no errors. I only have one hard drive, but when I go to a command prompt (from the repair section on the Windows 7 Install disk) it defaults to D:. I checked C: and it appears to be making the reserved system space drive C:, which would explain why I can't find a windows install on it. Worst case, If I just go down the path of re-installing windows without formatting the drive, will it pickup my old settings?
Here is what system info I could get (from the BIOS startup diagnostics):
Main Processor: AMD Athalon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
Memory Testing: 2030592K +64M shared memory
Memory Information: DDR2 533 Dual Channel, 128 bit

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got pop up in utorrent says a directory is corrupt, I start to run chkdsk on that drive. In this case in have drive letter E. I click on computer, then go to the drive, right click, properties, tools, check now. It says the drive is need to to forced to dismount. I click on ok. then in computers, the drive just show the letter, not size or disk meter. In the open windows on task bar, I did not see scan disk running, or maybe I accidentally closed because I was switching between several programs.
I thought restart pc the drive will show again, but after restart, the drive does not show up, it says 'E: is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.' I tried to start pc 2 times, still same. I downloaded Partition Wizard Home Edition (minitool partition wizard home edition 5.2) and running it, it showing my files are still in the drive, but not accessible in windows. I also run chkdsk in recovery environment, but still says disk is corrupt, chkdsk cannot continue.
We had an external USB drive with tons of media files on it connected to computer A running Windows 7 Pro SP1. The drive was safely removed and connected to another computer that was running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3. I was told that the drive was not recognized in XP and that it was disconnected (I cannot say for sure "Safely") and returned to the Windows 7 computer. Once the drive came up I get the following:
K: is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.
I know every drive fails eventually and I'm not sure how old this drive is. Any utilities to use to try and repair the file structure. I have only tried rebooting the Windows 7 computer and that did not change anything.
It's my daughter's computer. A little e-Machine, 250G HD, Windows 7 32-bit on it. Out of nowhere her computer wouldn't boot up. I can get it to try to boot using the Windows disk, it gets so far, and then the repair fails saying:
The file or directory C:/Boot is corrupt and unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.
I try to re-install. she had backed up everything on my external just days before. It gets near the end, and then the same error comes up. I cannot get into anything else. Nothing else will load. I don't even know how I can run chkdsk. Unfortunately the computer is about three years old and she can't remember the specifics except there is only one HD in it. She had no internet at her place so it's not because she suddenly installed something. She was using it to watch movies and listen to music mostly. I'm at wits' end, can't figure it out.

I kept receiving messages that said "The file or directory D:Windows is corrupted and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility" I let the startup repair work overnight but as i checked today morning, it was STILL going on. I then decided to use the chkdsk /f /r but it did not seem to help. I also tried to install windows again but it kept saying it was corrupted.Currently, i believe that my hard drive is failing(which is sad because i just replaced a failing hard drive about half a year ago that came with this new comp)
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy dad was using the computer to watch some videos online when Mozilla Firefox froze. Then I tried to get into the task manager using Ctrl+Alt+Del and that wouldn't work. Tried right clicking the taskbar and going into task manager and that didn't work either. So I just shoved the power button to turn off the computer, and turned it back on. It hung on the "Starting Windows" screen for a while, then it launched into check disk. It scanned for a bit, then said "File record segment 2xxx is unreadable" and it kept going until about 58%, then it just kept giving "File record segment 3xxxx is unreadable" and kept going up until "File record segment 44139 is unreadable". Then it said something about index errors and the computer reboot. Now it says "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"
