I first got Win 7 without success. Search simply does not work. Answers on-line say click on start and type in the search box, but when I do, I get nothing. Same thing with Explorer. Typing in the search box yields nothing.

I've been having this issue for as long as I can remember. Certain sites simply never load on my desktop. My Firefox and my IE would indicate that the page is down by returning the following error: Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at [URL] The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. Theses same sites work FINE from work, from collage, and from my cellphone (Android 2.3) but NOT my damn desktop.At first I thought maybe Comcast was blocking them but then I realized that I CAN view them on my Android phone, using Dolphin Browser, or any Android browser for that matter when connected to my Wi-fi which obviously, is the Comcast/Xfinity.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows 7 Ultimate, upgrade install from Vista. Toshiba Satellite laptop. I searched for this both in Google and on this forum, can't find anything. I can type into the search/run box in the start menu, but nothing happens when I do. No search items come up; if I type in a program name, I can't make it run by hitting enter. If I open a command prompt I can run anything I want from there. This happened several weeks after the upgrade, it was working fine. I had to clean several virus infections, so my thinking is that something got removed from the registry that shouldn't have. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance, forums like this have been a lifesaver for me more than once. I rarely have to post, I can usually find my problem, but this one seems to be a bit odd. Just remembered the other odd thing that happened, seemingly along with the above: my "printers and devices" window is empty. The devices are there, and work, but they're not listed in the window. As far as I know, this happened around the same time the other issue did. I did find some mention of this problem on the net, but none of the fixes worked for me. Don't know if it's relevant or not, but better too much info than not enough.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy problem is when I go into computer (my computer) the search in the top right isn't working from within this window! However if I click to go into an individual drive the search will then work from within there on the individual drive. At first it told me the index had been switched off, so I turned it back on even rebuilt the index. & its still the same except it doesn't tell me about the index when I try to search anymore.
It will still search within the individual drives but not from within the computer window. Apart from this the installation works fine. I even run a scan with Kaspersky & Spybot S&D to make sure of any nasties causing it. & run a CHkdisk this morning. I would rather not have to perform a system restore or new installation. It took me ages to install all my apps & don't fancy doing it again.
I have downloaded and unzipped a set of C project files from a Google code repository into a folder on my PC so that I can study the code. I would like to use search so that I can find the files where particular variables are used.In windows explorer, I browse to the folder at the top of the tree, and then in the search box I type a variable name that I know exists in one of the files. Search always comes back with "No items match your search".

View 10 Replies View RelatedI reformatted my PC and now I'm unable to get windows built-in search to "work" again. I want to be able to search inside the (hundreds of) files using specific keywords (and to actually search the files, with no indexing bullshit). I know this is possible because I managed to make it work before, but I just can't remember how I did that.
Turning on "Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)" under folder options seems no to do anything at all (but I've kept it selected anyway). Then I tried disabling indexing via computer management -> services and apps -> services -> windows search -> disable (and rebuilding the index), but that doesn't seem to accomplish what I'm after either.
Yesterday I bought a Western Digital 2TB hard drive, what I have done is installed windows 7 on my old 640GB and all my software and music is on my new drive (2TB), The issue is I have changed the location of music and videos etc., to the new drive (drive letter A). (Right click on the folder and change the location to the a drive). Now when I search for music and films in my search bar it doesn't work. I have tried a few of the results from google and not had any success.

Now I can't use Windows Search from the Start Menu, and I think I got an error somewhere related to ProgramData while I tried to fix itndexing is not running, according to the Indexing Options window. So I think I need to "un-take" ownership of the ProgramData folder. Is there a way to "untake" ownership of a folder?

Without an ability to search my computer I am pretty much lost now.
Bluetooth seems to have completely vanished from my computer. I've reinstalled the driver to no effect. The only thing I can think of is that I usually kept the adapter disabled, and that I deleted the HP program which toggled that adapter on and off. Other than that, I've got nothing. Has it gotten disconnected inside my laptop? Is there a piece of software I need to install to make my computer recognize it? How much would a new adapter cost? Is there a way to get a new bluetooth adapter for my computer?

One of the updates was for nvidia software, however I noticed that after this update that when watching video on full screen that the image was much brighter more contrasty and sharper, so I fouterd (fiddled)about with the various nvidia menus to no avail.I'll just do a system restore and that should sort it The only good bit was that my full screen mode was back to normal; but it the first thing that happened was that when I went to type my password I couldn't type using the keyboard so I had to use the easy access on screen keyboard using my mouse.Even with windows up and running the keyboard simply won't function, in desperation I tried a couple more restore points and none them worked. I used the F8 KEY with keyboard to get into safe mode and this worked but as soon as the password is needed the keyboard is not here or even in safe mode it's not there. But the keyboard obviously functions since I can use it F8 mode; now the latest thing is that any system restore points fail.In F8 mode selection I notice that there is the option of Computer Repair but if I take this route does this mean that all my software will be removed? To be honest I don't care what the reason is or why this has happened I just accept that glitches can occur and all I really want to know is how to get out of this predicament.

View 3 Replies View RelatedLast week I've reinstalled my Windows 7 because my notebook was slow and I wanted to went back to the factory setting. I've picked my Seagate external HD (2TB) and moved everything I had into a folder called "[Acer]".
Well, I had some problems with external hard drives this year, I've lost many information from an external HD, and I found out that it was because I've connected this HD in a Macintosh. I really DON'T KNOW WHY, but every folder that I had opened in my Macintosh went CORRUPTED in Windows 7, with no chances to repair the files.
Since then, I haven't plugged my external hard drives into my Macintosh.
I don't know if it's a Windows 7 problem or a problem with my Seagate HD, but the quantity of issues that I had with this external HD since then was crazy. Every time I disconnected this HD and then connected again, Windows asked me to repair and scan the files. And the amount of time to scan everything was, like, one and a half hour... so it was bugging me a lot. But the real problem is: yesterday I've plugged my external HD and my backup folder (called "[Acer]" simply disappeared from the drive. I've tried to run "chkdsk E: /F", with no success.
Now I'm running a "chkdsk E: /R", and it will take me a lot of time, and I'm really not positive to recover my backup folder.
All the old folders are there, everything is fine, but this folder disappeared, only this folder (and everything that were inside of it) disappeared.
I've also tried Recuva (Recuva - Download) to recover my folder, but it haven't found it.
Can I boot my Windows 7 or XP PC into a USB mode where the computer can be used simply as an external USB drive? Mac has this feature and it can be very convenient for large file transfers.how do I connect two PC to swap the files. Win 7 to XP?

I enter the same keyword (one of the words contained within the title of a completed task) in the Outlook Task search box as I do the Windows 7 orb 'search programs and files.' The Windows 7 search returns the correct search result (along with a lot other results having the same keyword) practically immediately whereas Outlook is still searching...and searching.
If I have index options set to include the C: drive and Outlook, what's going on with Outlook?

It is fixed now, but the other issues I was having at the same time was not being able to view indexed files through the "search programs and files" and "windows explorer search" box. The screen goes blank or does not produce any results. Also, one of my downloaded software disk programs will not open--error. This particular program, Logos Bible software, index its files quite often. Even when I am not using the program. I also cannot change my desktop background to any picture except solid colors. I think my laptop has a corrupted file somewhere, or it is infected with malware.
