Screen Dims When Unplug Netbook
Aug 4, 2011
I have a gateway netbook. Normally when it is plugged in and I unplug it the screen dims. Yesterday it stopped doing that. Now when I unplug it stays at the same brightness. Just to clarify, it seems as though whether it is plugged in or not, the brightness is like it used to be when I unplugged it (it is dimmed either way). It's not that important because the thing stays plugged in most of the time, but I am curious as to how this could happen. I just reinstalled Windows on it a few days ago. It is 32-bit ultimate, if that matters.

I reinstalled Windows 7 and the screen on the computer has started to dim slightly then will brighten back up.
I have set the power functions to not go into energy conservation mode. I wonder if I am missing a driver or something.
I have the computer hooked to external monitors but they are not affected. Just the screen on the laptop itself. What could be causing the screen to dim on it's own?

I have a brand new dm3t series laptop. There are two issues that I'm having with the laptop that no one can seem to figure out. I literally had an HP tech remote access my laptop and spend an hour trying to figure out what was wrong.
I have tried system restore, recovery, re installation of drivers and really everything else they've asked me to do. I turn to the forum to see if anyone is can help, thanks much.
1) First issue is very annoying. When I awake my computer from sleep the mouse is very sluggish and doesn't hardly respond to the track pad. Furthermore, the mouse is a magnify glass and when I do try to move the mouse via track pad it just zooms in and out. Oddly enough, after a few minutes of sitting there the mouse starts to work again. It's almost like the mouse has to warm up. It is very frustrating.
2) Second issue is the display on battery power. When on battery power the screen CONSTANTLY is dimming and brightening itself. For instance as I'm typing this thread the screen is brightening and dimming for no apparant reason. I'm not sure why and i'm sure it is wasting my battery. I've tried all sorts of power management tips/ticks and still nothing.
Any help would be appreciated, should I just return it? What can I do?

I have a Elitebook HP 8530p, and it has a issue with the screen brightness. When put 100% (energy properties are at : high profile) the screen dims, but the % remains 100, however when manually setting to a lower then to max again the screen is bright (as it should be) This happens while i'm activly using the computer. (mouse/ keyboard interaction)I disabled every possible auto-dim feature I found. This happens at random moments but every 1-5 min it happens.

I recently got a new netbook and have had a problem with it. On 3 occasions now, during startup I have got a blue screen and although only around 4 weeks old, I have already performed a full restore. The netbook in question is an aspire one d270 windows 7 starter (not my choice of netbook but neither here nor there). Obviously I have programs like adobe up to date but other than using microsoft programs I have only installed avast and firefox.

when I got it back from her (she's not a pro, btw) and tried to turn it on to make sure everything was clean, it was stuck on a 'logging off' screen. I've tried pressing Control Alt Delete, as well as turning it off with the power switchControl Alt Delete has no effect; the power switch turns it off, but when I turn it back on, the same screen comes up. Heeeelp! All the solutions I found by googling suggest what to do when the home screen comes up. The home screen isn't coming up at all. Is there anything I can do with it in the state it's in now

I recently bought a netbook (ASUS N10J) which supports a maximum resolution of 1024x600. I have installed windows 7 on it and it runs pretty well however i have one issue...
Sometimes when you have a window open it will be too big to fit on the screen and cant see the buttons at the bottom.
I know you can get multiple desktops but what i would like is multiple desktops that run onto each other so if a window on desktop 1 goes off screen the bit off screen would appear on a desktop 2.
Hopefully that makes at least some sense
Does anyone know of any application or option ive missed that will let you do it?

I been working a a friends netbook for about 2 weeks now and I can't seem to find a fix to the problem. Once I got Windows 7 on it but when my friend started putting music on it it crashed. So then after that I installed Ubuntu on it and that worked for a little bit but it still crashed. Then I installed Windows 8 on it and it worked for fine for a few days then it quit working. So I decided to install Windows 7 back on it and after it dose a complete install where the screen should install the drivers I got a short blue screen then the netbook restarted. So now when you boot it up it try's to load windows but after it bets passed loading it restarts the computer. The netbook is a Asus Eee PC 1001p.

I always choose the "No Sound" option in windows control / sounds panel.
But when I unplugg some USB devices (like a bluetooth controller card which I use to communicate to my cellphone) I get a system sound which is incredibly large, makes me jump every time .. hehehe .. I cannot find any sound settings in the PC suite program (sony-ericsson) program .. and like I said above . I have made sure the NO SOUND option is chosen.
Anybody know how to stop that unmounting sound ?
It's probably right there before my eyes somewhere but cannot find it .... and since I have my computer connected to a external sound system with large speakers (use it for writing music and recording) .. that sound scares the .... out of me each time..

My netbook froze on friday night. Try to restart, but was stuck at grey screen. It has asus logo and eee pc written. The options f2 to run setup and tab to display bios post yields nothing. In other words, pressing either button doesn't work. I have removed the battery, pressed the power button without the power cord, put everything back in, tapping f2. So far, no progress. Few times, i try pressing f2 similtaneously as i hit the power button, i got american megatrends screens. Still, none go further. I have this netbook for a little over a year. The warranty just expired a month ago. It is running window 7 starter already installed when i got it at bestbuy. I had contacted asus support, and tried some i mentioned above. I prefer to do this by myself.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Everytime when I unplug a device connected to my computer through USB port (such as FlashDrive, Zune, PSP, my phone...), if I shut down or restart my computer immediately, I will get a BSOD. If I wait for a while after unplug my device, then BSOD won't occur.

When I have my Headset plugged in the front of the computer, I find that I must unplug my Headset inorder to hear the External Speakers. Is there a way to get around unplugging the Headset plug? Afraid constant plugging and unplugging will wear out the connector and have to go inside of computer to replace the connector.

I recently built a new computer. The only issue I have right now is that I constantly get a pop-up from Realtek HDAM saying "You just unplugged a device" then immediately "You just plugged in a device".I disabled the popups but they still show up. That's not really the problem, I can live with that. It's the annoying cut out of audio every 20 seconds followed by the audio being a lot quieter. Originally I installed the drivers from the motherboard CD (Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3). Frankly those worked better but I still had the issue, I updated the drivers to a newer version, but now I keep getting this problem more often.

I was recently reading a tech magazine which I borrowed from my school's library earlier today. While checking this magazine, I found ( at the 82nd page ) a review about about JoliCloud (or Joli OS), which is an operating system optimized for small notebooks and netbooks. At first look, it seemed a good OS, so I decided to look for it on the web, and read some users opinions about it , ect.Unfortunately, I didn't find any review about it at Cnet, but nevermind. After about an hour of surfing, I've found a bunch of operating systems that are optimized and run smoothly on netbooks, rather than Windows 7 , perhaps.I got confused, so I came here to ask for help to choose the best operating system to run it next to windows 7, for some reason. My prefered way to run it, is on a virtual machine, but please tell me if running it by another way is still better and easier.Well, to help me (more) finding an OS that fits my needs:
1) Free, absolutely free please!
2) Power saver, just to keep more battery life.
3) Customizable, I like to give my special touch to the OS interface and apparence, just to be happy with it !
4) Good for web surfing, and mini games, because that's what I usually use my netbook for.
Characters in bold are more important, if the other recommendations are not available, it's ok.I have a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU (2CPUs) and an up to 900MB of RAM. (HP mini 311-1000CA)I am currently running windows 7.

My girlfriend, a student planning on taking advantage of the student deal going on right now, is going to be getting a new netbook. Unfortunately, Windows 7 Starter is sort of lacking in some features and she wants to upgrade.
Since they're both $30, what it comes down to is this:
Should she get Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Pro? It's going to be on a netbook, so I'm thinking HP is the way to go, but if Pro doesn't require any additional resources, it might work as well.
Also, this will sound very noob-tastic, but: Would it be easier on the netbook to install the 32-bit version of the OS, or does it not matter (32 vs 64 in terms of system resources)?

i recently ordered the lenovo ideaPad netbook s10 and should be getting it soon, it comes with xp, so i purchased a windows 7 upgrade from win741. for $32.00. they link you to a download .iso and .exe. i downloaded both files and have a product key.
so the question is how should i go about upgrading? do i just copy the .exe file on my desktop? i take it that the .iso needs to be burned to disk and installed by disk drive, but not available with my netbook.

i got a new netbook from hp (hence no dvd rom drive), it came with windows 7 starter, i want to get ultimate or home premium the digital version, my questions are:
1. once i install either upgrade, how do i restore to out-of-the-box state incase it screws up in the future?
2. many "installing windows 7 to a netbook" videos show disk part on usb drives and putting it on a usb and booting into it, can i go with "custom" installation from windows and reach a successful finish without booting into setup from bios?
heres my favorite video to show what im referring to:
