I have recently updated my hdd with a clean windows 7 install, but had the old one on a secondary hard disk as a back up. I now need to delete these files to save space on my data drive, but am unable to delete the system and windows files as they are owned by TrustedInstaller.
I discovered how to take ownership of these directories, but now the UAC is telling me that I need permission from myself to delete the files which I own!
Is there anyway to get round this without shipping out my data and doing a format, which I don't want to do as I always seem to miss something important..
I would like to know if I disable the "Error Reporting" program is this also the "Event Viewer" program ? or are these two separate programs ? I just do not feel comfortable having my personal home computer telling (mother Microsoft) any of my personal "Error Reporting" problems However I still want to be able to know when and why my computer rebooted in the middle of the night at the same time for no apparent reason.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had an old P4 system that the PSU went out on, so while I was at the store getting a new PSU, I picked up a copy of Win7 also. Put the PSU and Win7 in and the next day, the Motherboard died. Went and bought a new i-core motherboard, processor, memory and video card and put it together using two drives. The one Sata drive from the old system is a 1T that has the Win7 from the other system on it along with about 75 movies, 500 pictures and 1500 songs. I used a 250 gig SATA to load the Win7 onto the new system. So now the new system is running off the 250gig and all my files are on the 1T drive along with the old Win7 folder. I want to delet the old Win7 folder but it won't let me giving me a message saying I need permission from a trusted installer to remove these files.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am familiar with System Restore, selecting earlier times, and the often-available option of undoing a System Restore. But I found out (too late) that according to Microsoft, System Restore done in Safe Mode is not able to be undone.I lost 1,000's of photos doing the system restore, now the only restore point option visible is what I believe to be the new one after I did the restore. Prior to me doing the System Restore, there were a number of times from me to choose from, I just chose one that was 10 days ago. Is there any software, method, or hack that I can use or do to recover the thousands of photos that were on my desktop and that were in folders on my desktop? It's a 1 TB HD?

View 0 Replies View RelatedI recall reading some time ago about a new feature in Windows 7 for user generated error reporting that would allow a user to record their desktop / take periodic screenshots while they replicated an error, which would then allow them to forward / email the report to someone who could offer help.
I can't seem to locate this feature in Windows 7 Ultimate, and i'm having trouble locating any articles talking about the feature.
Was it removed or am i not looking hard enough?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have office home and student 2010+ outlook 2010. All work great, but since the last updates whenever I open action center there are loads of non critical outlook errors, all the same! I don't know what the error means, I never had them before the updates and I dont want to see them! I have tried: repair on both office and outlook. Excluding outlook from error reporting, turning error reporting off! they still appear, about every other time outlook is opened. They are all identical! each error is phoned home. I don't want them to be!
View 3 Replies View RelatedIm running a single Windows 7 Ultimate x86 OS on my laptop and it used to work very well till earlier today once I get back home trying to use my computer as usual to find out that it always runs the startup repair after showing the words windows is loading files instead of starting windows normally. Once the diagnostic & repair process is done it tells me that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically. When I view the details I get the following under Root cause found:
Boot configuration is corrupted.
Repair action: Partition table repair.
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
After many times doing the previous repairs with no result I went to Command Prompt in order to check my system drive to find out that both Windows & Program Files directories are not existed there anymore. Instead, theres a Windows.old directory that contains those 2 system directories as well as Users & PerfLogs directories plus the autoexec.bat & config.sys files. Sure theres noway to use the system restore tool or anything else even using my Windows boot DVD. Still cant use the cmd commands single handedly to fix this.As I said earlier I have never faced such problem before plus I have no idea how to regain my windows since I can never format my system drive as I need to backup all the files, settings, bookmarks & favorites located in my user profile first.
My sscreen goes black every time I play a game , can't tell at how much time but happens frequently. I'm attaching the diagnosis of the ""dxdiag"" report. Check it out.
