Restore Default Libraries Not Working?

May 29, 2011

I own a Gateway Desktop PC which runs Windows 7 Home Premium x64bit.I had to restore it to it's default factory settings a few days ago as it was playing up severely and a system restore did not work etc...I was downloading some Windows Updates and after the updates installed and I restarted my PC, when I logged back in and clicked the Windows Explorer tab down the bottom... the folders in Libraries were gone (Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos) and the "Restore Default Libraries" does not work.I did an internet search to try and find a solution and came across a thread on here somewhere where Brink was speaking to people about it and there were a few tutorials... I tried them but nothing seemed to work for me...

Cannot Use "mklink" On Default Libraries

Nov 23, 2011

So I've had my PC setup with an SSD for a while. It's just an Intel X25M 80GB so of course I need to try and save space where possible.

Since the beginning, I've already gone into the Library properties and changed their default save locations to a Documents/Pictures/Videos/Music folder created on my HDDs, and I was able to use mklink for the Downloads folder.

The problem I'm having is that some programs do not adhere to my settings. I'd much rather just use mklinks for this reason, but I simply cannot create one for the My Documents and other default library folders inside my Users folder. It seems like the folder cannot be deleted, as that is what the error tells me is happening.

I know for certain that Battlefield 3 and Skyrim both save to the default C:Users(me)My DocumentsMy Games folder, regardless of how I have it setup in my Library options. There's also a few other programs, there's an Adobe folder in there and maybe another 1 or 2. I also find it really strange about Skyrim, because that game is on Steam and every other Steam game I own saves to the proper location D:My DocumentsMy Games...

So the short version of all that, is whether it is possible to actually delete the My Documents folder from C:Users(me) and create an mklink, or is it just impossible and I'll have to create individual mklinks for all the stupid programs that keep using that location?

Restore To Factory Default?

Jan 25, 2012

My computer has been slowly deteriorating the last few days. It first ran a system repair every time I started the computer and would then boot to the desktop, then it would just loop through the system repair screen over and over. I am thinking that my last option is to restore the computer to it's factory default since I have everything backed up on an external hard drive.

Restore system from factory default. 2. Restore system from user's backup and 3. Exit. Option 1 and 2 are grayed out. Have disable the D2D Recovery option in the Utility screen. But still unable to by-pass the eRecovery Management. If am unable to by-pass this, my only option is to insert my recovery disk and restore to factory default losing data store on HD.

How To Restore Default Hidden Files After Using Unhide.exe

Feb 10, 2012

i have a problem and i found this forum which seems good in providing solutions.I was attacked today by a malware and I did some actions to get rid of it and now all seems good.Among my actions I used unhide.exe.the problem now is that ALL my files and folders are visible, even those which were supposed to be hidden.Well, maybe there is no harm in that but maybe they were hidden for a reason, that's why i would like to restore them to their default state.I see in many places that they say to do this:Start Menu - type in Search box -> CMD find at top - Right Click on - RUN AS ADMINType or Copy and Paste this at the prompt :secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verboset i'm afraid to do it because elsewhere it says that it may make my system unstable and not restore all the default security settings.

How To Restore Windows 7 Premium Default Startup Icons

I just got rid of that stupid Windows Restore virus and now my startup menu->all programs show the folders but non of the shortcuts inside them. I was wondering if someone knows a fast way to restore default windows 7 start up icons like Windows media, microsoft word, calculator? Or better yet if they know how I can get all my startup menu program folders to be restored, rather than show up as (empty)? I've tried an unhide program after the virus was removed and it fixed my documents, but it says to turn off firewalls etc. to restore startup menu which ive tried many times.

Restore To Factory Default Recovery Crashes Before Completing?

Dec 23, 2011

I have an HP dx7 laptop, which was experiencing repeated blue screens with many different error codes as well as periodically restarting seemingly at random. Occasionally it would also have the screen go black (looked like it entered sleep mode), which was unrecoverable.I tried to track down the various drivers and problems suggested by the error codes in the BSOD, but didn't have any success in preventing the blue screens/restarts. Eventually I decided to take the system recovery DVD's from HP, and reformat and reset to factory defaults. I figured at factory default settings if the system was still unstable, it'd point towards a hardware problem as opposed to drivers or other software. While performing the system recovery, it proceeds all the way to where it says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" and gets to the step of installing drivers, at which point the system restarts. After booting up it then tells me that the installation has failed, and to reinstall. I've done this 3 times now, and get the same issue each time. I cant provide logs or dump files of the blue screens or other errors, since the HDD has been formatted as part of the system recovery.
