No Success With Cloning Hard Drive With Norton Ghost

Sep 16, 2012

I want to clone my existing laptop hard drive to a hard drive that I have encased as an external hard drive. My current HD is in two partitions - C: and D:. Norton Ghost told me that I would have to copy one partition at a time. Fine. After I copied C:, I went back to copy D:, but before beginning it says - warning/any existing data on the destination drive would be deleted. So how am I supposed to move one drive at a time? I don't want multiple partitions on my new HD if I can help it.

I went ahead and began copying D: onto my external drive, and when it was done, I now can't see that drive in Windows Explorer. In Disk Management I see the drive, but it looks like there isn't any data on it from the amount available. So it looks like I"m back to square one.

Ghost A Win7 Install To Separate Hard Drive

Jul 30, 2009

I'm in IT (surprise surprise) and I have extra hard drives coming out my ears. I want to move my Win RC x64 install to a larger hard drive.

Whats the easiest way to do this? I know its possible, I used to ghost XP machines at the local highschool (dont fret, they were all licensed).

I'm toying with the concept of making a fresh install, and doing something to the effect of a system restore to it, or something like that.

On a slightly less related note, my system is more powerful a machine than i ever expected to own two years ago. Its a core i7 machine with 12gb of ram and Windows 7 installed on a raptor. Why doesn't a fresh install of Windows 7 simply fly? Sure, multitasking can be done almost infinitely (lol), but there's literally no speed increase in app startup times, opening "my computer" or the device manager. None of it works as quickly or smoothly as i would have thought.

Also, again, where can i find a simple list of changes between RC and RTM?

How Do You Search On Shared Drive?

Jan 15, 2013

In a small office (about 50 staff members) we have a shared drive on Windows Server 2008 R2. The file server is virtual machine on Hyper-V. The shared drive is mapped to every users account. And the data on that drive gets more and more. And now my goal is to organize a search on that drive. So how can I do that? Will Google Desktop installed in every users computer solve the problem?Or is there any other (better) ways to search on shared drive?

when i try to click on any of the shared folders as well as the whole drive shared on the network from my mac i get an error saying "Windows can not access \computers name\(folder/drive) check the spelling of the name. otherwise there might be a problem with your network" error code:0x80070035 the network path was not found. its a 3 tb hd and i would prefer not to format it becuase 2 tbs have been used and i would prefer not to have to transfer it to variosu other devices and then back

How To Allow Access To A Shared Drive But Not A Specified Folder

Dec 19, 2012

I have just created a VHD on my laptop so I can share is as a shared area as I have over 5 computers in my house. I want the whole household to have access to the drive but not to a folder that i own as it contains private stuff. How would I go about protecting a folder from being accessed without the correct password and username. Or maybe, how would i go about stopping the folder from being accessed from the whole network but being able to access it on the local machine?

Shared External Drive Folder Unshared Itself?

Aug 4, 2011

I recently replaced a Freeagent Pro with a Goflex Desk. Both the new and old drives were permanently assigned drive letter H and the new drive fitted in seamlessly about a week ago. The old drive is not used My Synctoy backups (run via Task Scheduler) all worked fine daily from 28th July until today when H was not found.I checked the properties and sharing was unchecked (not by any human hand!)The drive is permanently attached via USB.

Cannot Access Re-shared External Hard Drive

May 2, 2011

I have a Maxtor External Hard drive and Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. I have a user setup for each member of my family on the computer. The maxtor drive was working fine uptil I decided that I wanted only myself to be able to access it only. The drive appeared as my K drive. I went to sharing and added myself as read/write access and removed the everyone share thinking that only I would be able to use the drive. I restarted my PC and now nobody can access it. When I plug the drive into the usb slot the drive whirs up as normal but there is no drive letter for it and it does not appear in device manager etc. I plugged it into my old XP machine and that cannot read it either..

Mapping Network Shared External Drive?

Jul 26, 2011

We have a company drive that we map folders from to certain computers. They reconnected at log in like normal. However, we have a separate external drive that when I map a folder from it, it never reconnects on log in. I have set the folder permissions for the user I want. I have tried directly connecting with the folder share name and also using the IP address of the server. They will initially connect when you set it up at first, but then it never reconnects to the drive/folder when logging back on. I have tried almost everything I can find and it still never seems to connect.

Windows 7 Unshares Shared Network Drive

Oct 9, 2012

I have two computeres set up in an offline LAN with a 4 port switch connected to a router. One is a server with 4 shared 1TB drives. The other is just a works station. Both computers are running windows 7 ultimate x64. My problem is that 1 drive which I've label as Z: keeps disconnecting in the workstation. When I check the server I noticed that the Z drive has been marked as un shared. So I re enable sharing and set the desired permission. Then I re map the drive on the workstation. A few days later and the same issue happens. Both computers are always left on and I've set the power options accordingly.

Ghost In The Machine?

Mar 29, 2011

I just completed a HTPC build consiting of a small ITX form factor case and ASUS CPU/Mobo ITX combo. All I have plugged in is a USB keyboard, mouse, and ethernet (well then of course the HDMI cable to my TV).I have the power settings set so when I push the power button the PC goes to SLEEP. Problem is in the morning I usually wake up to the thing turned back on.No other power saving features have been customized other than the "choose what the power button does" and the rest is set to the Windows default "Balanced" power features. When I push the power button it's usually to go to bed so the mouse and keyboard are undisturbed during the night.I've scoured the settings and I cannot find anything that may cause the machine to wake up unannounced.

Windows 7 + Ghost 8 Bart PE

I am after some help with getting this working. I have multiple test PCs within the company I work for and we are soon to be creating Windows 7 test images.I currently use a Bart PE disk I built with a copy of Ghost 8 and would like to stick with this method as there are over 40 PCs all of which have multiple images, therefore would be too much work to recreate the images for a different program. I can take a successful image ( disk to image ) but upon restoring the image I get a inaccessible boot device.

Can't Reinstall Norton Ghost On Windows 7

Mar 2, 2011

I had some kind of problem with my Ghost 15 installation. I kept giving me this message that it couldn't communicate with my computer? Probably had something to do with getting a new external hard drive for my backlups.

I finally decided to just reinstall it, to reset everything. It told me that I had to uninstall it first. I did that and it still kept telling my I had to uninstall.

I ran Revo Uninstaller. It still kept telling me I had to uninstall it before I could reinstall it.

I finally found the Norton Removal Tool and after running that it would let my reinstall.

When I started it, it said I didn't have permission to run it, even when I logged in as Administrator. I found the instructions that said I had to uninstall it again, run the reset permissions tool, and then reinstall it again.

I think I did that, (it's weird takes me to a page with no active buttons and I have to click at the top of the screen giving permission to install something, then nothing) now it still tells me that I don't have permission to configure Ghost when I start it.

I'm about ready to give up and switch to another program, I've run Ghost for years, but this is crazy. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, I have the UAC turned off, I don't know what else I can do.

External Backup Of Norton Ghost?

Feb 5, 2011

after reading that I should have an external backup, I bought a Nexstar 3 USB 3.0. compatible with USB 2.0. This in part as I lost my last Computer during an electrical storm about thirty miles away. I just want to back up about once a week.I also bought Norton Ghost. Norton Ghost seeming to be working ok. Question: why do I need it? Apparently with Windows 7 I can just transfer Data to the external disc. I have to ask this question as the instructions coming with Norton Ghost don't seem to have been written by a human being. I should like to uninstall Norton Ghost , reformat the external and start again. Is this OK?

How To Delete Corrupt / Ghost Files From Computer

Oct 2, 2012

I have this really annoying file in my library on windows 7 and I can't seem to delete it. I've tried the traditional ways of deleting it, dragging it to the the recycling bin, renaming it, copying and pasting it somewhere else and then trying, using software programs called "Unlcocker" and "CCleaner", and even going into the CMD prompt of my computer attempting to remove it from there; side note...(I'm not the best at using CMD commands and navigating through there, so maybe I've missed something). Ive also tried to run chkdisk command to see if it was some sort of registry error and I've also tried safe boot mode to see if I could simply delete it that way. The problem with this file is that my computer cant seem to find it on my hard-drive, its like the file doesn't exists, its just a icon in my pictures document.
