I'm trying to move some files from my old (soon to be retired) XP Pc to my new Win 7 PC but am having problems?I am the only user on both machines and after checking user accounts on both machines I am described as Administrator. On the Win 7 machine I have UAC set at "Never Notify".I tried to map the C: drive on the Win 7 PC as drive Z: on the XP machine (I can see the Win 7 drive on the win XP Machine ). but it says "access is denied" When I do it the other way around I can map the Win XP drive on the Win 7 machine with no problems, but there are some files it won't let me copy over. It says:"You need permission to perform this action""You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file"

I have a few programs which require administrator privileges. I have tried running them normally... running them as administrator... I have even gone as far as to enable the admin account and then try running it. It is the same result every time... "You need to be administrator to run this program." I tried taking ownership of the programs, too. No luck.

Does windows 7 OEM require an OPK or do you just install it like a normal full retail version? I have looked for similar threads and all of them are from 2010 or earlier. I was wondering if any of it has changed or you can still just install it without having to worry about the OPK.

after a complete fresh install of windows 7 (the computer will be completely blank excluding the OS) what components (GPU, CPU, Motherboard, etc.) will require drivers to function properly and where would I acquire these drivers? Also are there any tips or things I should be aware about when restoring my PC?

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.
We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.
Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.
Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)

I've lost msvcr71.dll from my computer. I'm a Windows 7 Home Premium user and sadly can't run any of my games. They all worked fine before I installed a new graphics card, but my computer kept crashing during game play. So I thought a factory reset might of helped, it has in a way but not for my games (PCM2011, GP4, CSI's).

My current motherboard is a socket 775 G41 chipset with 2 x DIMM slots for DDR2 RAM. I currently have 2 x 2GB Kingston RAM in them, but need to increase RAM to 8GB.However 2 x 4GB DDR2 is so ridiculously expensive it is not economically viable to do this.Around 175 for branded RAM or 100 for unbranded stuff that might be dodgy. So I am thinking of getting a motherboard that runs DDR3 RAM, then I can put in 8GB of cheaper DDR3 RAM and even with a new Mobo I am still better off, even using branded RAM.16GB would be nice but I don't think socket 775 mobos exist that support that much.I am keeping the same CPU (Core 2 Quad Q8300) and everything else.Running Windows 7 64 bit. My question is will I need to reinstall Windows? in fact I probably wouldn't bother if that was the case.

I'm trying to fix my friends computer and I'm having some issues. There was a nasty virus on it that I managed to get rid of, but now programs won't run unless I first right click and click "Run as Administrator". Shortcuts also won't work (I assume for the same reason.) Does anyone know of a fix for this so we don't have to constantly click "Run as Administrator"? By the way, there is only one user on the computer and it is an administrator.

can someone please clarify a few things for me.
1. the upgrade disks and the full disks are exactly the same EXCEPT the upgrade one requires proof that you own a copy of vista or xp.
2. what kind of proof does it require? does it just ask you for an XP/vista serial during the install?

I am trying to move a .dll file from one of my folders in Downloads to Program Files (x86)/some_folder, but it keeps showing "you require permission from my_machine/Owner to make changes to this file", so I can't finish the job; I tried take owner ship of the dll file, but it didn't work.
Here is what I tried: First of all, I changed the own ship of the .dll file located in Download folder to my_machine/Owner(full control), and then i changed the own ship of program files(x86)/destination folder to my_machine/Owner(full control) as well; then tried to move the dll file to the destination, failed. Then I turned off the UAC, tried but failed again. The error msg is still "you require permission from my_machine/Owner to make changes to this file".

I have an Acer Aspire 5534 with an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core Processor L310 1.20 GHz laptop. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. My problem is that I can connect online, but cannot connect to certain online games that require the detection of my IP address. I have tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, but I get an error message saying the media is disconnected. This occurs when I am connected both wired and wireless. The weird thing is that I have a perfect internet connection. So, basically, how can I renew my IP address? I have Comcast internet and a Belkin Router, all which seem to be working fine.

I am having this exact same issue on my Lenovo E520. In the Advanced User Accounts - the box to check to "require users to press ctrl-alt-del" is greyed out. In the Local Security Policy I have disabled the Interactive Login. With these changes made the computer will require the Ctrl-Alt-Del during the first reboot but will revert to the factory settings upon subsequential reboots. I believe it is caused by the fingerprint scanner software or drivers but the uninstall option is not available in the Delete Programs utility. Also I am leary on removing these as I don't want to cause conflicts with the other Lenovo factory installed software.
