Anyone know if it's possible to convert an HP USB to RJ45 Print Server to a device that will allow an External USB drive to become a SAN?
I know they sell Routers and such that will do this, but I have an old USB to RJ45 print server around here and was just curious if it was possible.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 64 bits Windows 7 notebook installed with Samsung SCX-4725 series PCL printer. For network printing requirements, I tried to install (I am not sure) a 32 bits ZOT Network Print Server which is being used other folks in the office. When I installed the print server, a error message prompted "Failed to add network Monitor". With this message, I still could install the print driver. But upon completion, couldn't print anything with a message "Error Print". Such error message did not appeared when I installed the system under a XP or Vista 32 bits enviornment.
I wish to know what is the problem(s) here? Is it ture that I need to install a 64 bits network print driver.
I'm having sporadic issues with many users connected over the network to a print server. If the printer is their default printer the application used to print will freeze/lockup until they log out / restart their machine. The only way to fix this (from my experience) is to set their default printer to something else (like Adobe PDF) or bypass the print server completely and do it by direct TCP/IP.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHave been a LONG LONG user of Linux as a server (hosting VM's XP / Windows 7 mix) and file / print sharing.
I used to avoid MS like the plague as far as SERVER environments are concerned - probably because my first experince was Windows NT (Windows NeanderThal or Windows No Thanks) which was SO HORRIBLE that it put me off Windows servers for ages.
(Note I'm using a server in a HOME environment where we have around 8 machines (most of which are actually mine for testing -- not a corporate environment which has other considerations).
The problem now with the latest Linux distros that they are trying to be "A Better Windows than Windows". You can of course customize them but I haven't got the time or patience to do this any more. To select what packages to install / leave out now is a 100% pain and if you do it wrong the chances are the system will give errors.
I've looked at the new SUSE 11.2 -- slick and polished - bit I don't NEED "an alternative Windows".
I've just been looking at Windows Server 2008 R2 (got it from Technet) and I'm REALLY IMPRESSED with it so far. I've installed the STANDARD version - you don't need datacenter or Enterprise version for a home server.
It runs vmware server on it just fine (although I might go the whole hog and use the Hyper-V virtualisation -- need to do a bit more research).
I'm quite happy letting MS do the updates than having to mess around with Kernel compiles etc.
Incidentally as a HOME server there are some considerations that you might want to do to make it more like a Desktop OS than a pure server for example add multi-media to it.
This guy does a great job at this .
Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! - Multiboot Installation
Windows 7 VM's run just fine on W2008 server (they should as there is a lot of common code).
I've been using various print drivers for various locations with success for a month with my new laptop. Today, all drivers gone.Loading new ones doesn't work. Print spooler is not "started;" it starts successfully, then is not "started" next time I look.Other possibly relevant information: HP 1020, HP MX 340 at home office.Tried: multiple restarts of print spooler, multiple reboots, troubleshooters, HP detect and download drivers?
View 5 Replies View Related(Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, HP LaserJet CP1215)When printing from Word (or any other normal application) the documents just sit in the print queue with Status = "Error - Printing".If I stop, then re-start the Print Spooler service, they then print.Strangely enough, this does not happen if I print from the HP printer diagnostic utility.I've done complete re-install of the entire printer driver suite and I'm pretty sure everything that end is OK. So what's happening with the spooler? The error message isn't exactly very revealing

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm on Windows 7 and have run into the annoyance of my PrtScn key actually bringing up the print dialog box to print. It still copies the screen to the clipboard for a paste into paint, but I can't figure out why it's bringing up the dialog to print or how to turn that off. I have seen it before maybe 8 years ago on Windows XP but do not remember what was done to correct it. When I try to search, I just find posts about it not working or how to turn the whole screen capture function off for the PrtScn button.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI got a new PC at work that has Win7 Pro 64-bit (SP1) on it. Unfortunately, my printer (an HP Laserjet 1000) doesn't support 64-bit and it won't install.
So I created a Virtual PC with XP Mode and installed the driver there. I was able to print from within the VPC XP mode. But here's the problem: I would like the ability to print something from Win7. Is it possible to print something from Win7 so that it goes to the VPC printer even though the printer isn't installed in Win7? If so, can ya dumb down the instructions for me?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am working on my nephews laptop which came with Win7 64bit and I installed a usb connected HP4500.all-in-one which was working until recently. It shows under printers as the default and i can use testprint from the properties screen which works fine and prints OK. However, I cannot print with any of the apps like wordpad, acrobat, word 2007 etc. It flashes and disappears and nothing shows up in the print que. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling with new drivers I pulled from the HP site but still get the same result. Once in a while an HP4400 device shows up which apparently was loaded initially and deleted. I think perhaps a windows update has left something else as the default device

However when i attempt to install drivers for my 3000n, 3600n and CP2025 printers, after downloading from HP website as i don't have discs, i just get a message 'unable to connect to printer'. I can set up the 3000n as a local printer over tcpip using the same ip address as the network printer and this works as a clumsy work around but i need to be able to manage printers from the server on my 64 bit systems going forward.

My network at home is a mix of Mac's and PC's. So when I decided to start messing with Windows 7 on the box that I was using for print sharing I as well as file sharing I didn't realize that I would have such a hard time using my Win 7 box to share printers with my Mac's. Has anyone else had any experience trying to share on win 7 box to Mac's? I have been able to find shared files but for some reason my Mac's will not find the printers?

"access denied". i am the admin for this computer. it worked the first time i tried it with no errors. now i get the failed echo message.
-cannot setclassid "as know adapter is in a state permissable for this action"-i saw something about the dhcp-read on one forum that people were having trouble after deleting norton(symantc) programs. i have deleted norton programs and think i got all of them (how to be sure?)-netsh winsock reset successfully-tried regrepair, regseeker, and a few of those "free download" programs that say they will fix your problems after you register/purchase them. i figure if the computer can stop working so easily i can get it to start as easily. maybe that's naivety speaking.-i have scanned my cpu for viruses (naturally) with 3-4 different programs (maybe norton would have found something).clean-thought it might have something to do with the registery since i had a nasty virus everal months ago that i think changed it somehow.-of course my system restore points are dated after this problem occured.-i bought the computer at staples and it did not come with a windows startup disc.
i can't think of any more though i know i've tried more than is listed. the dns and rpc servers seem to be the main coulprits but how do i fix that? also possibly the norton issue? i've read so many forums i'm seeing triple and everyone seems to suggest the same things. i've tried them so many times (to no avail). i've even changed the network adapters ipv6 and ipv4 adresses to 208.67.222.222 with the alternate. nothing. there has to be something i'm overlooking but what

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and have a Brother HL-1440 installed which has been working fine. I recently had to go out of town with my laptop that has the brother printer installed, but did not take my printer with me. A friend lended me an HP laser jet 1022n to use since I forgot my printer. Apparently this printer is so old that when I plug the usb cable into my laptop windows 7 doesnt not find a driver for the printer automatically. So, I tried downloading from the hp site and had issues installing the driver.
Lastly, I went to devices and printers > selected Add A Printer > Then add a local printer > Then I select a usb port to connect >I selected what I thought was the correct driver from the list and finished the set up, but when trying to print a test page it would not print. So, I tried adding a printer again and this time selected the correct printer driver with the usb port. So, I am able to print now but when I go devices and printers I notice that it shows the first wrong driver i installed showing as my brother printer. when I look at the properties from right clicking the printer there is a drop down that shows all the drivers i have installed and shows the driver for my brother printer, but when I look back at devices printers it seems to show my brother printer icon named the wrong print driver i installed, basically my brother printer shows with the wrong driver i first installed.
I'm worried that my brother printer wont work now. How can I delete un needed printer drivers that are on my laptop so that only the drivers i need are installed?

The Registry for the Print Spooler keeps shutting down. When I attempt to print from Micorsoft Word, it shows my HP1018 printer as not really being a printer. I checked the Print Spooler and attempted a restart. It restarts fine, but then when I attempt to print from Word (or any MS office program) the Print Spooler shuts down. Same is true with adobe acrobat reader.
My guess is something corrupted the Registry to screw with me.
