Jan 8, 2010I am trying to change power setting but I got a message "Your power plan information isn't available." I will download a game that will take me like 8 hours. I'm about to sleep already and decided to change power setting and sleep option but options are not available. I activated the account administrator and have 2 account administrators. I logged in on the account administrator and got no option. Same as with the other account. What should I do?

Jan 26, 2011I have my power plan set to Energy Star with display brightness set around 40% when on battery and 100% when plugged in. It seems to get reset periodically to the default which 40% for both battery and plugged in. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem but every few days the plugged in setting gets reset to 40%. Is this a known problem with Windows 7?

Jul 27, 2011Anyways, in laptops (gaming or not), does setting the power plan to High Performance actually improve gaming (frame rates, speed and anything else) in battery mode? I'm using a laptop (not dedicated gaming, but suffices) and my games (the recent ones) slow down whenever I'm in battery mode. A couple of friends told me I should set it High Performance, which I doubted since they don't seem to be the type to change the power plan settings and more so with the advanced plan settings.

Jun 9, 2011I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?

May 2, 2012Over the past 2 years my PC has been afflicted with random power off/power on/reboot events.It will go for months without these and then have multiples of the events in a day. (I had 8 of them 3 days ago.)I assume I have a hardware problem, but nothing has been found and I'm grasping at straws.The time between power off and power on is several seconds.I had assumed this rules out a software cause, but maybe I'm wrong. I know Windows can schedule a power off, but can it tell BIOS (or something) to power back on in a few seconds?I know blaming the power supply is a much more simple explanation, but then I'm left with explaining the intermittent nature of the failure.

Mar 17, 2012My computer wouldn't shut down, even with holding in the power button, and so I just let it run out the battery. Then it wont turn on. I tried holding down the power button to clear out any charge that might be remaining. I have managed to get it back on, but I have to make a connection at the clip where you plug the power button ribbon into the mobo. Also, this is the second time I have had to do this. The computer works fine afterwards...or seems to anyway.

Sep 28, 2012I recently had to reinstall windows 7 on my laptop as it randomly decided not to boot up. I had a backup of my files saved onto a partition on my laptop but it won't let me restore them for some reason.
I can access the partition from the computer tab and I see the backup there. When I click on it it asks me if I want to 'restore files from this backup', but when accept there are no backups listed.
I originally tried to repair my windows 7 when I had to reinstall it but it came up with a message saying that there were no backups to restore!

Jun 1, 2011(Which I what I've started calling this product since I'm on my 5th reinstall and probably will get to a 6th.) Anyway so now I have a new issue this time with Live Messenger. I can double click on a contact and it theoretically creates a window so I can talk to them. The problem is that I can't make that new window be visible. If I hover my mouse over the icon in the task bar I can see that it really did create a window so I can talk to my contact but if I click on it nothing happens. (The window stays hidden.) Jun 17, 2011Im having a problem installing windows 7 on multiple hard drives and i dont know if its a problem with the hdd's itself or the installation setup. installation works fine on laptops but not on some harddrives i put on my open test bench. (though i have installed it on two harddrives on the same test bench.
the message i get is :

this then has a blank box
a popup comes up:
a requireds cd/dvd is missing. if you have a floppy disc, CD,DVD or flash USB drive, please insert it now.
Note: if you have the windows installation disc inside you can safely remove it now.

Jul 11, 2012I run a gt200, and windows 7 32 bit pro. One morning, about a week ago, I turned on my computer and I thought it was in low graphics mode. Reseated the GPU and nothing changed. Then I noticed Aero themes was still working and found out my resolution was changed to 1024x768. 1440x900 is the native resolution for my monitor, and when I tried to change it back it wasn't an option under screen resolutions in the control panel. 1440x900 also isn't an option in any of the games that I have tried. First thing I did was restore a windows backup from a few days ago and that didn't do anything, then I tried forcing 1440x900 with the Nvidia control panel and that made it look even worse. Then I tried rolling back my GPU update and rebooting, which didn't do anything either. Right now I run 1280x960, which is alright unless I'm playing a game, then it looks messed up and bother me.

I have been into the system config and unchecked this option, however the problem still applies. What's more, I occasionally will get a Drive Reading error, forcing me to rebootIn terms of recent hardware changes, all I have done is revert back to an older graphics card due to having an insufficient PSU. I also started using my old Logitech G11 keyboard, but I doubt this will make a difference
