Windows 7 Boots And Shuts Down Very Slow?
Dec 6, 2011I use Windows 7 Pro on my Sony VAIO Laptop and I have noticed in the last few weeks that it has became slower and slower so I did the defrag, virus check, disk clean up, windows tweaks and tips un-checked most of the start-up programs and it did make the computer faster except for the boot and shut down and the average time is around 3 minutes for both, so what else can I do before I decide to reformat and set it back to factory settings

Feb 15, 2012When my system is working, it will occasionally just shut off. No BSOD, no error screen of any sort, just a clean power off. It happens anywhere from twice a day to once every two weeks. My system specs are located below.
When my system is not working, I can't even get Windows 7 to load. It boots, I get the option to repair (which, only the first time, will say it reverted back to a time when everything was working fine) or start normally. If I choose to repair, it restarts, then goes into the infinite loop. It restarts, if I choose repair, it says windows cannot fix the problem, and shuts down. If I choose start normally, it shows the windows loading graphics, but then I get the clean shut down right before I get to the log-in screen (don't actually ever see it).
How does it go from the first scenario to the second scenario? Well, I think its Microsoft Office. Every time I try to install it (sometimes successfully), I eventually start to have these start-up problems. But I can't be certain, I just downloaded a fresh install file today to make sure it wasn't my DVD. There are so many more details that may or may not be important, but I'll spare them for the time being.
This is a home-built computer. It should be noted that I've had this problem mostly through the life of this system (15 months), and have replaced the power supply, the RAM, and the SSD that the OS is installed on.

I realize the shut downs sounds like a overheating issue. I wish I could go check the temperatures to let you know what it idles at, but my computer won't turn on. However, I play Star Wars: TOR at max settings and have never had a shut-down happen during that time.
I know this is a shot in the dark, but I don't know enough to narrow the problem down. It honestly makes me want to go buy a pre-built because I feel like the problem is my choice of components or some type of incompatibility.

I have had this computer for just over a year and it has ran like a top. I was surfing the internet last night when it just shuts off (no slow down no blue screen) and boots into startup repair. It would not repair, just sat in there forever and would not boot into safe mode or anything. It just kept booting into startup repair for hours.
So I hit esc when it booted to startup repair, I go to the dell backup and restore, save my work documents and pics and let it boot to factory fresh windows install from the dell created partition. Windows reinstalls and loads fine, boots in and begins to update successfully and then reboots back into repair. This happens everytime it reboots. After sometime it will boot into windows fine. If I restart I am back into startup repair for half an hour or more.
PC Randomly Shuts Off And Randomly Boots Up After (sometimes)?
Mar 7, 2012When the PC is on it will depending on how long its been on will randomy just shut off. When it shuts off, it "sometimes" reboots but most often it "tries" to reboot but fails and then stays off. After this failed try to reboot if I press the power button on the case and mobo, nothing.Now if I turn OFF the PSU leave it for a few minutes and come back turn the PSU switch on and press the power button the system comes to life for a second or two then dies and will no respond to the power buttons until I turn off the PSU again.I have gotten it up and running from this state by leaving it off and unplugged for a couple of hours. When I say the PC comes to life for a second or two, I mean the case fans. If I get it booted up the BIOS is reset to default for some reason. Also if it makes it to windows, the notification area icons also gets reset... very very odd.I have a short video of the problem, sorry for the darkness, I finally decided to video it and it was 11pm.PSU dying or Mobo. I dont have extra's so I cant test them.Forgot to mention, ive checked for heat problems but none of my temps are high, they are all normal and its a Antec 1200 with tons of air movement.Event Viewer shows nothing expect for unexpected shutdown. My event viewer is clean from any errors also. I do not get any BSOD and this is on a fresh Windows 7 install from late Jan.

Feb 22, 2012my computer was not booting up so last night I went to the built in startup repair in Windows 7 and through the command prompt did a "chkdsk c: /f /b" which I saw online. It took about 15 hrs to get where it is at now which it finished the stage 5 and now says "Free space verification is complete." I thought that meant it finished but im assuming not because it won't let me type in the CMD box. Its been at this point for about 2 hours now and im wondering if I should try to shut down and boot up my computer or wait out until it does more. Also during stage 4 it said a couple times that windows repaired bad clusters?

May 31, 2012So a couple of days ago, my PC started hanging up on a "Please Wait" loading screen in between the "Starting Windows" screen (where the Windows logo forms from coloured orbs) and the user account selection screen. Sometimes I'd leave it half an hour and it still wouldn't load.To start with, I simply gave my PC a hard reboot, and the problem would go away. When this stopped working, I system restored, and then the problem disappeared. This morning however, I performed a system restore from safe mode, and now when I boot my PC, in whatever mode, I get the "Starting Windows" screen, then the PC hangs up on a black screen with only the mouse pointer active.

The laptops are intermittenly hanging at the "Please Wait" screen right before the alt + ctrl + Delete option appears. The time it hangs varies. Sometimes it can hang for 2 minutes, sometimes it could hang for an hour. So far the only pattern we could find is that it happens mainly while the computers are not connected wired to the LAN and on wireless. If we toggle the wifi off during the please wait, a few seconds-mins later it finally shows the option to login. I set the NLA service to manual startup (network list service was already set to manual as well), and it stopped doing it. I enable it, and it starts hanging on message again. It also works fine in safe mode (both networking and without).
Any suggestions or ideas? Would leaving the NLA service to manual cause any major conflicts? Are there any timeout settings we could verify?
Hang For Up To An Hour Just Saying "please Wait"?
Jun 9, 2011We have a network of aprox 500 computers, and since putting windows seven on the computers and laptops, they intermittantly hang for up to an hour just saying "please wait". This error was supposed to be resolved with SP1 but it doesnt work. It must be one of the services holding as once it has timed out, the login box pops up and all works fine
