PC Freezes After Restart Dont Recognize Drives
Jul 5, 2012
the PC freezes but HDD light keeps ON.After restart, it wont recognize the DVD or the HDD drives. If I wait sometime it recognizes again, but after a while it keeps freezing/not recognizing. When it dont recognize it says that there is some problem with HDD, to make a copy and to to change it but it also dont recognize the DVD drive. It freezes sometimes on windows, sometimes before windows login(when its loading) and even when trying to load safemode, when its loading the drivers. It started 5 days after I change the PSU and GPU. Also formatted Windows.Already tested the system with the old PSU and graphic card. Also changed the SATAs connections on the mobo to different ones.

I have switched CPUs in order to upgrade my system, but I have copied over all the important files from my old computer. The current CPU was used by my dad before me and worked perfectly. It runs on Windows 7. However, since unplugging the tower and moving it back to my room, it no longer recognizes any of my CD/DVD drives. They are both functioning, turning on and opening and closing, but they are not listed under COMPUTER. I have tried several fixes on this site including merging my registry with a file on Notepad and running a program called cdgone but it still doesn't work. When my computer boots up I go to a screen with F2 that allows me to view my system. The drivers are listed as off but when I switch them over the computer will not let me. [code]

The new MB will not recognize the old hard drives. My previous MB (socket 775) failed so I installed a new LGA1155 MB and a new Intel processor. I also installed my two SATA drives. One HD has the Windows 7 OS plus all the programs. The other HD has all the user data. When I try to start the new rig, it tries to reinstall Windows.

I have been trying to install a copy of an x86 version of Windows 7 Ultimate for weeks. For some reason when I first installed it It did not recognize my hard drives. I was ok with the upgrade at first (from Windows Vista Ultimate) but along with the disk space it is taking up from windows.old, I want a clean copy. When I go in the setup, click install, and go to the Custom Install tab, no hard drives or partitions show up. I have tried installing drivers from the Western Digital site, to no avail. The ultimate question I am trying to get answered is how do I get a my hard drives to show up on the setup and finally get to my destination of having one partition, with my copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on it? This is the information of the hard drives and where I tried to download the drivers to allow the installation to work: WD Support > Installation > SATA & SAS > WD Caviar SE / SE16 (SATA I)
I tried to load the drivers at the installation and apparently they were not the correct ones, although the most recent ones I could find were for WinXP.I am getting frustrated with Windows 7! I also have a problem where I am not sure If my video card is working properly or not, but that is another issue that I have posted on that the advice I received did not work..

My motherboard is ASUS P6X58D Premium, Intel i7 920 2.67Htz, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Hard drives: C: WD Caviar RE2WD500YS, WD1002FAEX 64mb cache, 3rd drive is 1TBWD1002FAEX 32mb cache, and 4th drive is: 1TB WD1001FALS-00J7B0 32mb cache. When I click on My Comuter in Windows 7, it does not see hard drives #3, and #4 but it does see the C: drive that is a 500GB WD drive and the first 1TB WD hard drive.Drives #3 and #4 are not seen by Windows. Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics(DLGDIAG) sees all four drives but the SMART status of drives #3 & #4 say: Not Available. I can run a Quick Test on drives #3 & #4 and they pass the Quick Test but it won't run the other WD tests for drives #3 & #4

the problem being is the motherboard will not recognize the graphics card with the latest drives and older ones to test, the strange thing is if i take a stick of memory out it boots up in single memory mode and recognises the card straight away, likewise if i install another module to make it 6gb it fires up perfectly and plays CODMW3 no problem but if i am doing office work after about 30minutes the screen starts to flicker and black lines appear through writing then finally the BSOD comes up complaining about one of the graphics card drivers, dont get me wrong i have played COD for ages and not had a problem, i am at a bit of a loss i want 6gb memory ideally but the system becomes unstable, the system works great as an office computer with 4gb of memory but wont play videos or do video editing because it doesnt recognize the card.

I have a problem where roughly 25% of the time I insert or remove a thumb drive, my cellphone, or an external hd, windows explorer restarts. This is mostly a problem for me because certain programs in my tray are not restored and I have no way to access them after that even though they are still running. Could you help me figure out why this is happening or how to access a program if it's tray icon disappears?I've got an HP Pavillion Elite HPE and I've noticed this occurring with all of my front facing USB Ports.

I am trying to install windows 7 64 with a new M3A79-T. It keeps freezing at expanding files with error 0x80300001. I figure this might be due to missing sata drivers but when i click load drivers during the installationwindows doesn't recognize anything. I tried with the mobo support dvd and i tried burning drivers from the mobo website and using that dvd. In either case i can browse to the dvd but all the foldersin it are empty, so nothing to install even though the driver are definitely there. when i click on scan

I installed windows 7 on a brand new HDD,i updated all the drivers of chipset etc,the computer runs fine, but the only problem is that when i try to make it restart the screen goes black, the keyboard and mouse also, but the fan and the pc keeps running, i tried to set the bios to default but nothing,so i tried to restart it from the safe mode, from the same mode it loggs off ok but when the shutting down screen comes it freezes there,so i am guessing its the same thing happening to the normal restart. I tried uninstalling all the newly added programs but still the same thing,i tried resseting the ram but still the same

this computer is working away for surveillance purposes. It has been crashing since installation, maybe once every two days. The computer does not restart neither shuts down. It justs freezes, and happened once when I was there. I tried to turn on the display but it acted like nothing was connected, so I could not see if there was a BSOD.I opened the Event Viewer and the last event I can see (for example this very last time, the computer froze at 04:29 AM), under "Error" category, it displays: The device, DeviceHarddisk0DR0 has a bad block. The error appears 3158 times, from 01:12 AM to the time of the crash.Do I have to replace the HDD or would it be something else? [code]

I've been having this problem for about one year now and I decided it's time I sought online help. My PC is about 2 and a half years old and the current windows installation is roughly 2 years old (windows 7 professional x64 from microsoft academic alliance).Crashes/freezes happen at random times (I had gone about a month with none) and not when a particular program is running. I've attached minidump files and system health report.

I just built a new system today, and I have been running into some significant issues whenever I try to reboot. Basically, the system hangs up on the Starting Windows screen at the exact same instance whenever I reboot. This has been happening since I installed Windows 7 64-bit edition. After I booted and installed off of the installation DVD, it froze up on the first restart. I then tried to install Windows again. That worked, but it then again froze on the first reboot. I then had to manually shut down the pc and start it up again. Fortunately, it picked up where I left off and finished the Windows 7 install. After I installed Windows 7, I have had no problems whatsoever expect for when I restart, as the system freezes at the point specified on the image above. However, if I shut down my computer and then start it up, everything loads fine.
Here are my specs:
AMD Phenom II Black Edition dual core 3.2 ghz CPU (all four cores unlocked, overclocked at 3.8 ghz)
HIS Radeon HD 4670 GPU
BIOSTAR T A870+ mobo
Seagate Barracuda SATA 7,200 RPM 1TB HD
4 gigs G.SKILL DDR3 240-pin RAM

Every now and then, my system just completely freezes, I can't anything. I can't even restart by pressing the Power button. I don't think it happens when I do a certain task, everything freezes one by one or window by window. Just as an example, first Windows Media Player will freeze then FireFox then Explorer and then the Windows Gadgets and the last to freeze is the cursor. I have no choice but to hold in the Power to hard shutdown my PC. Could this be because of my old motherboard or is it my hard drive crashing? I have 2 HDD, 250Gb each, the HDD that has windows on has about 70Gb free.
Specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506) Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 840 Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (Dual Screen setup)
Here are the 2 HDDs I have:
Hitachi HDP725025GLA380 ATA
ST3250318AS ATA
I also have a 2TB external HDD, connected via USB.

My Gateway runs great until a restart is requested by me or a program. A few days ago, it would restart just fine. When I select Restart, the computer appears to shut down fine, it beeps to restart, the Windows 7 screen begins to open but it freezes with three colored dots on the screen. It always stops in exactly the same place.
If I kill power, then boot again I get an offer for Windows to repair itself. If I let it, it cannot repair. If I select Boot Windows Normally, all is well. Except for this one problem, things are really running well. Odd. I've run Chkdsk, SFC/ SCANNOW, and PC Pitstop Optimize3. Nothing finds a problem or fixes anything.

I have a HP labtop and my laptop froze all of a sudden so I did a hard restart of the computer. After restarting the computer I am no longer able to boot my computer up, the screen will go black sometimes after the log in screen. But now I do not even get the option to go to the log in screen now it just goes to the startup recovery stage. Everytime I try to fix start up I get startup repair off line following by the details of 0.00000 or something like that. The numbers are all zeros in the details but I tried other options like restoring to a previous point and I keep getting errors.

The icons on my desktop keep going to the left side of the screen. I have unchecked the option to "auto arrange" several times, but it keeps moving the icons to the left side of the screen anyway. Are there any alternatives for me having quick access to the programs, folders etc that I use on a regular basis other than putting them on the desktop as shortcuts?? I may or may not be using some of these terms in the correct way?Can I move them down to the task bar? How many icons will the task bar hold? Can I have multiple task bars? Will this slow down my computer?
What does it mean to create a library for shortcuts?why do some items appear under the start menu and others dont?

I'm building a new PC and I want to buy a retail full licensed version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I don't want OEM or any other kind of version. In my country Lithuania (Europe) it's ridiculously overpriced to $500 so I must buy it from the internet. I was about to buy it from Ebay for around $50-100 but then I figured out the truth. My friend informed me about all that region stuff. I mean most of them are "for distribution in US only" and thus the activation code is not going to work in my country Lithuania (Europe).
