View 6 Replies View RelatedThis has been going on for ages. Upon a fresh boot, keyboard brightness dimming does not work until I put laptop to sleep. Then, the FN+up/down works fine. I can't remember if this has always been the case, but I know when I first got my laptop, Windows 7 pre-installed, the auto-dimmer was working. Now I am not sure it is (not that I mind, I don't want it on). Now, when I check Advanced Power Options, the "enable auto dimmer" isn't even listed.
I pretty much need to have quick brightness keyboard control due to my light sensitivity. Win+X is annoying to resort to.
Also, when the FN+up/down keys DO work to change the brightness, it says: "Ambient Light Sensor Disabled". (Also also, I checked, and I have no "sensors" installed, so says my system.) Also, my keyboard has a FN+Auto Dimmer key that is the 'left' key in the arrow set, but it doesn't appear to do anything. Or am I completely missing that THIS might be what I need to hit in order to enable keyboard dimming commands? (I haven't tried, but right now, after coming out of Sleep mode, the dimming commands are working and the "auto" option does nothing).
Anyway....

Don't know what else you need to know. I did some searching online and this might be a BIOS setting, but I didn't want to go that route before I talk to someone. (PS, Power Options, as far as I can tell, only lets me manually, on the screen, adjust brightness - it seems to have no control over keyboard adjustment settings).

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe way i connect to my XP network is i open explorer and click on the Network folder icon. Then i wait for the green search bar to do it's thing at the top of the screen and when it detects the XP computer, it will show XP under Network and i can access it.Well it stopped. No matter how many times I clicked on Network the green search bar only searched once after a reboot and it would not find the XP drive. After searching I found that you could open the drive by typing in the start menu's search bar, \NAME. This worked fine, so I am able to access the drive but why don't it work with the Network folder in Explorer anymore? After I open the xp drive this way, it will then magically pop up under the Network folder but not before. Also is there a way to create a shortcut to this drive? I don't see that option by right clicking on it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst I know this has been asked a many times but no solutions seems to work for me. I have a bunch of stuff going wrong and all seems to related to each other. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. That is how the problem progressed:1. I was trying to enable Telnet service and found out that 'Turn Windows Features on/off' in Control panel > Programs and Features is a blank list.I checked on internet and i found out that it means my windows update wont be working as well so i check it:2. Windows update gives the error 80070002 and it does not check for updates.. Again check net and it said to run sfc/scannow in command prompt (as administrator). I did it. and it gives error 'Windows Resource Protection can't execute the command'.
I have tried everything. I have tried: msconfig.exe to enable/disable services and restarting and rechecking. Uninstalling my Avast Antivirus. Running MS Fixit toolI have checked disk check in advanced startup options. Deleted C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload' contents and recheck the Windows update facility. Nothing works. I dont have Windows CD coz my laptop came installed with windows.

I am running Windows 7 32bit.
Is there some way to configure Windows 7 to execute commands (such as resolution changing, killing/starting processes and services, etc.) whenever the laptop switches from AC to DC and back? I have been using batterysaver from codeplex.com but it is still in beta and hasn't seen any updates for around 6 months. It is somewhat unreliable and I can't get it to trigger nircmd.exe to lower my resolution when I switch to battery or to raise it when I switch back.I think my best bet would be Task Scheduler, but I don't know how to make a power event a trigger.

I want to put CCleaner into my plugin bar of my browser (Maxthon2.5.18.1000) via Tools>External Tools. But, here's the problem. Normally, when opening CCleaner from a shortcut, one then has to give permission before it opens. I have followed Brink's protocol to elevate a shortcut [URL]. So, now when clicking on the pinned shortcut, CCleaner opens without having to give permission. Its path is C:WindowsSystem32schtasks.exe /run /tn CCleaner. The problem arises when trying to place CCleaner into the plugin bar as I just can't get it to work.
When setting the external tool's Utilities dropdown Command field to C:WindowsSystem32schtasks.exe /run /tn CCleaner (and nothing else in any of its other fields), that doesn't work. And, when setting to C:Program FilesCCleanerCCleaner.exe, it works, but I have to first give permission...which I don't want to have to do.
