OEM Windows 7 From Pre-built PC Into A New PC?

Nov 13, 2012

Alright so a year ago I bought a Lenovo PC and it came with Windows Home Premium 64-bit. Im now planning on putting together a new PC but using the same HDD. The only part I will be keeping thats from the original PC would be the HDD and possibly RAM. The windows copy is apparently OEM (According to Jellybean Keyfinder) so will I have any problems with this? If so what can I do to fix it?

Can I use either - are there problems? 2/ Occasionally I need to do a clean re-install ( Upgrading PC neds HDDs etc). Installing Windows 7 On An Newly Built Pc

Dec 16, 2012

I am going to build a new pc from scratch, I already have a windows 7 installation disc and an windows xp installation disc from my old pc that i bought. I am worried when I try install the windows 7 os on the new build it wont work because when i put the disc in my laptop the auto run comes up and says run setup.exe, but as far as I know that is a file that is associated with windows (and the new pc wont have an OS yet) Is that file just for upgrade purposes? because on the disc there are also many other files and folders.Does that mean I will be able to install the OS on my new system from the BIOS menu or will i have to install the old xp OS and then upgrade

Just Built Computer But Cannot Get Windows 7 To Install

Jun 28, 2010

I just built a computer, but it will not load an OS. I got Windows 7 x64 to load once, and everything worked perfect for about an hour while I updated my drivers and whatnot, but then it froze and erased the hard drive. I've been trying to install it the exact same file in the same way off my flash drive and it just won't work. I've tried to switch the ram around and remove one each time, using the cd, using a friends cd, using new connectors from the cpu to each drive and I even tried installing Windows Xp pro but it didn't work for any of that. Here are the parts that I put in my computer, maybe some aren't compatible with each other? [code]

BSOD On Newly Built Windows 7 Computer

Nov 6, 2011

So I recently put together a computer for a friend of mine. We booted it up, and everything seemed to be fine. Unfortunately, he has been having intermittent BSOD crashes, often when installing new software (though not always). We've tried reinstalling Windows 7 (64 bit) several times, and I've had him run various RAM and hard drive diagnostics, which have (so far) not indicated any issues. My suspicions are beginning to point towards the motherboard or power supply, but honestly I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to analyzing dumps. I've attached the relevant dump files. I don't have a full list of hardware directly at my disposal, but if necessary I can have him run a dxdiag tomorrow.

Built-in Instant Messaging Function With Windows 7?

Nov 16, 2011

I am working in an office and would like to know if there is some sort of instant messaging capability in Windows 7. We would like to be able to message other computers in our small (5 or 6 computer) network without having to get up and walk around or use a phone page (some people have headphones in). I seem to remember a feature in Windows 2000 that had some sort of messenger. Is this possible in Windows 7 or any good non-invasive program that would work? We don't really want to go the route of AIM.

PC Built Gets Black Screen After Windows Boot?

Aug 2, 2012

I just finished a new built and I ran into a problem after installing Windows 7. I was setting up some some drivers the PC randomly went to a black pixelated screen and it sounds like the CPU fan started running on max speed. Now, every time I turn it on the fan is still running on max speed and the screen goes black soon after the desktop starts up. I know it could be a hundred things but it be huge if you guys have any information on this issue. One last thing is I switched the main graphics card back to the integrated one and it seems to be running okay but I only had it on for a few minutes because the CPU fan is still running on MAX.

Unable To Get Windows 7 Built-in Search To Work?

Jul 16, 2010

I reformatted my PC and now I'm unable to get windows built-in search to "work" again. I want to be able to search inside the (hundreds of) files using specific keywords (and to actually search the files, with no indexing bullshit). I know this is possible because I managed to make it work before, but I just can't remember how I did that.

Turning on "Always search file names and contents (this might take several minutes)" under folder options seems no to do anything at all (but I've kept it selected anyway). Then I tried disabling indexing via computer management -> services and apps -> services -> windows search -> disable (and rebuilding the index), but that doesn't seem to accomplish what I'm after either.

Burning With Windows 7 X64 Built-in Burner Issues?

Aug 21, 2010

When I burn a 3.5GB RAR File using Windows 7's built-in burner, it's always getting "stuck" at random parts of the process. Sometimes, it gets stuck at the middle of the process, sometimes towards the end, and etc. When it gets stuck, you will see that the rate (KB/s) will not vary and it is constant. I use a LG Hitachi GBW-T10N Bluray Combo Drive with my laptop and it has the latest firmware UN09. Why is this so?By the way, this doesn't happen when I burn using ImgBurn.

Built New PC, Genuine Windows 7 Fails To Activate

Oct 31, 2012

I built a new PC about a month ago, and have installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on it. I know it's genuine but it will not activate with my current key.

I'm pretty sure I know why. Because I had the same OS on my old PC with the same activation key which obviously activated fine. Now it won't activate because it's detecting multiple PCs attempting to activate with the same key. Obviously this is my fault for not "deactivating" the old PC, but it's unfortunately too late to go back.

Can't Install Windows 7 On Fresh Built Computer

Sep 18, 2011

I just built a new computer ordering the parts online & putting them together and I have come to the stage of trying to do a fresh Windows 7 install on the HDD. But, for some reason when I get to the step of selecting which hard drive to install on, Windows can't detect my hard drive. A Samsung 1TB F3 Spinpoint SATA II. The weird thing is that it shows up fine in the BIOS. I've tried changing SATA connection port on the motherboard (this changes which channel it is listed under the BIOS. i.e Channel 1/2/3 Master/Slave) but Windows still can't detect it. So apparently I need to format the hard drive before I can install Windows on it. I've been told this is easily done using the Windows 7 disk but I am still having no luck. It can't detect the hard drive to format in the first place. When I press Esc to go to the boot manager there isn't an option to format there either. And when I browse for drivers under Windows installation, I click on C and format and an error message appears saying check that it's connected properly or it's read-only. I have also tried burning boot disks and running them but they just won't run when I insert of disk and boot from CD-ROM.

Just-built Computer Crashes On Windows 7 Updates?

At some points, the computer will just freeze up and crash, or randomly shut off, during these updates. Not all of them, but some of them. A lot of the time it will occur while I'm doing something else, so I've tried to update some of them and not use the computer at all while it's doing them, but I've still encountered some crashes this way.I can't remember all of the updates it has crashed on, as it has crashed around 5-6 times give or take, but the latest ones it crashed on were the general/security updates for microsoft .net framework 4[CODE]

WinZip Driver Files Can't Be Opened On New Windows 7 Built

Aug 19, 2012

I have just built a new computer (desk top PC) and am using Windows 7 (Home Premium edition - Service pack1). My new computer has the same setup as my older one, obviously the latest one is a higher spec. I have run into a problem with installing my printer driver, although its working with the default driver installed by windows it is not the latest driver that was issued in Feb 2009 that I have been using on my old computer. I have found the required driver on a CD that was possibly created by me when I was running windows XP. It's a WinZip file (epson322530eu.exe). When I double click on it I get an error message:-

"This self-extracting Zip files was created by a registered user of WinZipSelf-Extractor 2.2 (4003) WinZipComputing, Inc."

Is it possible that WinZip files can't be opened on my new build computer because of the age of the WinZip file? I don't seem to have a WinZip programe on either computer so I don't know how I installed it before.
