Mouse Won't Wake PC - No Power Management Tab Under Properties
Feb 18, 2010
I can only wake my PC from sleep using the keyboard. How do I get it to do it with the mouse? My Logitech mouse does not have a power management tab under Properties.

I built a tiny yet powerful HTPC with the new sandybridge Intel i3 CPU. is there some kind of software that will turn off the spinning HD when it is not needed and only turn on if say a tv recording is scheduled for a certain time, record the show, and then turn the hd off again. it runs windows 7 64 bit, 8 gigs of ram, 2tb hd, blu ray burner.

I would like to ask you about my problem in Window 7 professional 32bit.I just reinstall it, and update it. But when I change Processor Power Management at 5% min and 80% max in power plan at both battery and plugin, so when I am in Windows everything works fine, but when I start a game in full-screen, this power plan will change to 100% for max and min, and stay like that. I change it as Administrator. It is on laptop Toshiba A300D.But before this last reinstall everything works fine.

Just got my new system up and running. My system drive is a 256 gb SSD, and I have two internal 3TB HDDs...one data and one backup. I also have an external 2TB USB HDD that I will use as a backup (albeit, less frequently than the internal backup). Because of the SSD, the power management for turning off hard drives automatically is disabled. This is recommended for running SSDs. Therefore, both of my internal HDDs are constantly spinning.I would like to find a solution to manage the HDDs, but at the least find a solution to turn off (or just stop spinning) the internal backup drive, since it is not used very frequently. It would be nice to do this with the external HDD, but I'll probably just unplug it when not in use...easy enough.I searched for any software/utilities to do this, but couldn't find anything. Other users have the same idea, but it doesn't seem like they found a software solution either. As of right now, I've determined my options are:
1) Manually unplug/plug internal drive. Requires access to the inside of the case.
2) Get a mobile rack for my case (eg Vantec), which allows me to remove the backup drive or just power it off from the mobile rack.
3) Wire in a power switch for the drive. Cheap, easy, simple.
4) Get an external enclosure that has a power switch on it.
Out of those choices, I would probably choose 3), just because it is cheap and I'm not adding more components that have potential for noise (like the mobile rack that has a fan in it).

This started two days ago. When waking up from sleep, the power cycles on and off about every 2-3 seconds. This is happening before any programs are restarted, and the screen is still dark. I first thought it was my new battery backup. I called APC, and they agreed that it had failed even thou the UPS was only 10 days old,. So I disconnected it, and plugged the computer into a dedicated outlet, removed the UPS monitoring software with Revo, and then cleaned the registry with CClean, with no effect. The only new programs I've loaded, were about 2 weeks ago I added itunes, and a Win update or 2, and the battery backup software, which has been removed.
The computer is a Win 7 Pro machine about 3 months old. I7-2600, 16 GB ram, and boots from a SSD that only holds the OS, 4 TB of HD in raid 0. No mods or overclocking....Just as it came from Micro Center.

I'm leaving town for a few days and want media center to continue to DVR my shows in my absence. Trouble is, we've been having intermittent power outages in the area and of course the computer is turned off when this happens. WMC wakes my PC fine from sleep or hibernation, Can it be configured to power on the PC when necessary?

I live in a place where we have power shortages from time to time. I have my Dell desktop pc attached to a UPS and i have configured the pc to go to sleep after 5 minutes when on UPS. Is there anyway to wake up the pc automatically once the power is on? I have connected my UPS with USB cable to the pc, and the pc treats the UPS as a battery. I use this pc as a media centre so this feature is something i really need.

I can't open Mouse Properties in Control Panel. I click and nothing happens. I ran sfc /scannow but it didn't fix the problem. It found some corrupted files which it couldn't fix, but they weren't related to the mouse or control panel in any way I could see.

I have a bluetooth mouse and when the computer goes to sleep the mouse will not wake it up. If I move the mouse or click the buttons nothing happens, even though the mouse has a blue activity indicator light (indicates mouse activity, not connectivity). If I instead type on one of my keyboards it will wake the computer up and the mouse will reconnect.

Bought a GW DX4860, it comes preinstalled with Win 7 and I have it hooked up to a Dell (S2240M) monitor. I noticed that once the PC goes into hibernate (Power led is blinking) that I can not wake it with keyboard (USB) or Mouse (USB). The only way is to hold down the power button for a while. Then the screen pops up saying that I did not shut window down propoerly - probably because I hard booted the PC.

I have a Razer Copperhead USB Mouse. Specs of my desktop can be found here: TechComet: My Gadgets, Basically, I put my desktop to sleep (using S3-STR) and when I wake it up my moues does not respond for about 15-30 s after which it works fine. I am running Windows 7. I have no other problems with my system, my keyboard responds fine and I have all necessary drivers installed. I have no idea why this is happening and the fact that my computer resumes from sleep in 2 seconds is great, but not when I have to wait another 30 for the mouse to work!

I have both Windows Vista and Windows 7 on the same PC. I run a 64 bit version of Windows 7 and both Vista 64 and 32 bit. The problem is that no matter what mouse I choose to use on Windows 7, shortly after using the system for at least an hour I either have pointer problems or battery problems. I use the same mouse on Vista and it can go months without an issue with the batteries going low. I have used othe mice but I am used to using the MS Intellipoint. On both O/S's I have the latest drivers and where the MS system gives you a leaway on usage on the changing of batteries the Win 7 system gives you hardly any recovery time before replacing the second battery. I use mainly photographic and artware programs so The issue is lagely to do with the workspace management in windows. Power seems to be a high wastage on win 7 whereas win Vista just takes its time to boot in. The driver database in both Win 7 and Vista seems to be identical about the only difference I can find is in coordinate checksum amalgamation on a 64 bit datalog. Something needs to be sorted because this is not the ideal selling point for Windows 8. In fact I am even more put off of the newer interface because it seems to be catering for smudgey fingers more than the everyday user whom uses the computer to work for him.

Desktop does not respond to mouse actions as previously nor the front panel power switch.I have to disconnect the power cord, reconnect, and press the front panel power button. Then the unit starts up and returns to window without the login window as if it was sleeping. The problem started after my attempts to install a defective external drive enclosure connected with an esata cable. I have since obtained a working external enclosure connected with an esata cable. The present Sleep wakeup malfunction is now present with or without a working external drive.

I've done a lot of searches using variations of the above title and came up empty or just plain missed the answer.I'd like to know, if it is not asking too much, the following points:
1. What exactly is the function of Link State Power Management in the Power Options Advanced Settings, PCI Express?
2. What are the implications of using the options available:
a) Off.
b) Maximum power savings.
c) Moderate power savings.
d) Which option is the best selection for my Dell laptop.

I use my PC for audio production and I have a few external controller devices that are USB powered, for example a midi keyboard. I recently had to build PC due to a theft....long story short after building the new PC I've noticed that my USB buses have continual power to these external devices after I've powered down the PC. My old windows 7 PC did not do this. Is there a setting I can change to shut off power to the USB buses when I power off the PC? Or is this a hardware issue?
