I have a seagate 2TB USB drive.
Can I make system images from several different computers to the above drive?
When I restore will the computer find the correct system restore file?
Now I have a doubt if drive images will work on different computers. I think windows may not work if I do it. Have any of you guys tried it? I also know that unnecessary drivers may be left installed. But the main question is will Windows work if I transfer a drive image to a different computer?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a few friends that would like me to fix some virus/malware issues. Most are Win 7 users(a few running XP), but don't have any of their installation media or driver disks or anything. I've had a few personal instances where I used Norton or a similar program to scan for viruses before, and when it did so it removed some of the boot files, or some other system critical file. I don't want that to happen here, cause I don't want to give them back useless machines.
Can I just create a "Repair Disk(DVD)" in Windows? Will that take care of an issue like the one I described above? Should I use an external to create images of each, one at a time, run the scans and then use the image if anything goes wrong? And if something does go wrong, how would I restore from the image? I've never done that before, and I'm eager to learn.
I have an internal hard disk not in use ,and I would like to make it as external disk !I looked on the net and I found I should have the " encelsure " butt I think I wont find it here in my city .So is there another way ? like usb -esata cable
View 3 Replies View RelatedI created a backup and image (Win 7 Pro) on an external (USB attached) HDD and then created a Windows 7 System Repair Disk. I then booted from the repair disk and the attached external drive is not visible.
The external drive is attached via through a hub, does it need to be attached directly? Is their a generic USB Mass Storage Device driver that I can load?
I was hoping that by creating the repair disk that all necessary drivers would have been loaded to the disk, but apparently not.
and i got problem with my brothers WD external hard drive, it's not recognized in my computer, my brother says "it lost the drive letter or may be some files broken" he had some knowledge about that but we can't fix that one.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with my external hard drive. It has been working just fine until today. The drive is showing up and I can access a few folders and fewer files, but the majority of the contents are nowhere to be found. It works without a hitch on every other computer in the house but the main one. Running chkdsk says the drive has a RAW file system and chkdsk can't run. This pc is running Windows 7 32-bit (all the others have Windows 7 64-bit) but no idea why I'm having this issue. Yesterday I installed a new printer, did some windows updates, and had a power outage, so I suspect the problem lies with one of those things. I'm really at a loss here as what to do though.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a hard drive I recovered from my old Dell laptop when the motherboard gave out. Originally, I just put it in an external hard case and have been using it as external storage. Now it is getting filled up, so I would like to reformat it to remove the OS partition (Vista) to give me access to the entire drive. I have removed and baked up all my files, but cannot find a way to repartition the drive to remove the OS volume. Disk manager will not let me access that volume to delete it - nor will diskpart. In fact, only the non-OS volume even shows up with a drive letter in diskpart.
I have searched the web but have only been able to find info on how to reformat the main hard drive...and this is definitely NOT what I want to do.
I've taken a 1TB SATA HDD from a second computer which had Windows 7 OS on it. I have housed it in an external caddy to use as a backup drive for my primary computer. It comes up as two paritions G and H. I've formatted G to give me a 931Gb drive and I have a H drive with 99.9MB which is the System Reserved from the previous Windows 7 install.Can I format the System Reserved partition on the external drive and combine the two partitions to create one external backup HDD?? If I need software tools to do this are there any freeware tools that would do this?

The size was like 25gb's so I saved it on my external hard-drive(I bought a case and put a hard drive(Seagate I think) in it). I know want to use this to restore my computer. So I made a system repair disk and loaded it up. However it cannot find my external hard-drive. I have "WindowsImageBackup " in my root directory of my external drive. Yet it still does not see it. I would install some drivers but I have no clue what drives I need as when I plug it into my computer and I am in windows 7 it finds my drive. What do I need to make window 7 recognize my image?
View 9 Replies View RelatedPart of my job involves taking images of many different computers using Norton Ghost and saving them to external drives. One of these drives is a Western Digital MyPassport that is soon being re-purposed. When taking one of the images with this drive I accidentally clicked on the System Volume Information folder and, while I caught my error this time, saw that there were 2 other ghost files already saved in that location. I would like to pull these off of this drive and transfer them to one that will still be in use for storing images, but can't gain access to the System Volume Information folder outside of Ghost to do so, and the steps to access the folder on my computer don't seem to work for the drive (show hidden files and folders is selected, hide protected operating system files is unchecked, and system restore is turned off for the drive).

Apparently it was related to my WD hard drive for my computer does not recognize it anymore. I checked my device manager; "Base System Device" is not recognized. I ran windows troubleshooting. It says "Base System Device" Driver is not found. I searched a lot, but I couldn't find the driver. I also ran drive checker software.
It says:

I could not find this too. I also have another portable WD which is still recognized by my computer.

A message will then display that says CMD failed to start and then it will shut down. It does the same thing in safe mode as well.My question is. I have already set up the HD from the desktop as an external to my laptop so I could get files off it. Is there any way to do system restore on the hard drive when it is set as an external? Because I did this last night and I think if I restore the drive it will fix it.

I have a password but that's not the point, I want to be able to make the my documents folder inaccessible completely from other computers on the network. It's disabled in the sharing properties but that makes no difference. Any ideas?

View 9 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I tried to restore a windows system image to my 120 Gb OCZ Vertex III SSD. The restore process started with no problems, but stopped after a few seconds and would go no further. So then, I decided to try another image I had created with Easeus Todo Backup and the same thing happened. The restore process started and then suddenly stopped. I thought about it for a while and decided to try to Clean All command in Diskpart to wipe the disk and start over. When the disk was successfully wiped I started the restore process once again and it worked like a charm. Since I was concerned about the system restore not working the first time, I decided to see if I could restore the image from Easesus Todo Backup, but once again, the restore started, but then stopped and when I tried the windows system image again, the same thing happened. The only way I seem to be able to get an image to restore on my SSD is to wipe it first. This has never been the case with my hard drives and I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem with SSD's, and if there was a solution for it.

The "30% default rule" means I can save only one image on that drive (the "most recent", and that's overwritten by the new one).I'd rather save the last two images (new plus that of two weeks ago).Because I've had a lot of problems getting Windows Backup&Restore to work correctly, I'm leery of changing a lot of settings around.is there something simple I can do to save the most recent two images?

I used to be able to have my images come up as thumbnails without having to Right Click > View > Large Icons everytime. However I only have the upgrade version of Windows 7 Professional. So my question is can I use Windows 7 backup image to restore the image on a different hard drive to boot from? I do have multiple computers available incase I need them.
I know the best way is to use a Drive image utility, however I am not fond of paying extra $$ since I am on a strict budget at the moment. I need alternatives to fresh install because it would take me days to redownload or reinstall all the setup.
Mostly CS4 is what concerns me (legit). Now I could have it reinstalled but I won't be able to for a while due to the missing key/discs.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
