Have WLM on my old XP and strange thing is all the messages I get from this forum have a little yellow envelope that does not open like the other messages do.Any ideas - it's not a problem only I still have mail as being unread in the inbox.Plus some messages have obviously a picture in them but the square as a small red "x" in a small white box am wondering what that is about too.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn on the screen of my PC I get weird shapes all over the screen. Some of them are coloured, some are grey but they appear on all programmes, including a Word blank page and the desktop page. Some of them flash, some of them change shape, ut they are all pixel shaped within the boxes. There are also some strange 'squiggly' marks on the screen. When I opened Windows mail, the left hand side of the screen was completely black and it didn't show any of my messages. As I'm typing this message, I've got grey boxes which change shape as I type and it's covering some of the text.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI've reinstalled windows many times in the past and have always used the 'import/export' option for my email folders and accounts, and it's worked flawlessly everytime. Until now.
Accounts were imported correctly, and Live Mail is sending and receiving email since the reinstall, but all my saved email is not showing up in any of the folders. It looks like it loads them from my saved files (the box pops up showing them being transferred) but after it finishes the folders are empty.
I even just now tried to copy/paste them into one of the mail folders manually (had to google to find the pathway to them in explorer) and still they don't show up.
I don't have a clue as to what is going on with this.
Followup: I just noticed some 'imported folder' at the bottom left side and all my files are in there, which is fine I suppose, but why didn't they go into the current folders?
I am trying to create a message rule in Windows Live Mail Desktop. For example, I want a rule to automatically place any email from Pay Pal, to a folder I created named Pay Pal. But when I chose the option "specified folder", only the Outbox shows up as a list of folder options to move this to.

The .eml extension does show in the Indexing list, but not in the Default Programs list. How it can be added to the Default Programs, and if so how can I do it and would I associate Windows Live Mail with it??? I have missed quite a few mails because of this problem.

I made another toolbar, and placed it directly adjacent to the Programs toolbar, to obscure the eight folders and force it to be a dropdown menu.Trouble is, as soon as I lock my taskbar, right next to the arrow that displays the eight items of my Programs toolbar in menu-form, one of the eight items is showing up as an icon, as if the other toolbar isn't close enough to the Programs toolbar in order to completely obscure the eight items.

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently after I finished editing a .txt file in WordPad, I closed out of the program, but then immediately opened it back up because I forgot to change something. The program loaded, and I could see it and it's preview on the taskbar, but it would not show up on my screen. I hadn't installed or modified anything very recently also. Then later that day, after opening up Google Chrome, it did the same thing. I would not show the window on my screen. When I minimized and maximized the window from the taskbar, the animation showed the window going to the far right hand side and off the monitor. When I pressed "Windows Key +Tab" it showed the window, but wouldn't bring it to the front again. I'm not sure what is going on with my computer.

I'm told that the file is open somewhere else but I don't understand where. How do I delete it?
I am having is that websites keep crashing, it has only started to happen over the last few days. I have not installed or removed anything. I have scanned for viruses but there are none. I have restarted the computer but that makes no difference either. I am using windows explorer. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

My home page is Google and when I boot up the message >Your profile could not be opened correctly. Some features may not be available. Please check that the profile exists and you have permission to read and write its contents< without the arrow heads.I have tried keying the message into Google, but there doesn't seem to be a cure up to now. When I open it, the screen stays off.The only way to fix it from here is to either turn it off or to put it in sleep mode (with my designated button). Everything still works, its just that the screen doesn't turn on.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a large amount of photos saved in one folder and want them to be sorted by the date they were placed there, for some reason the "sort by date" feature doesnt do this, the "sort by date last saved" does work, however the problem i have is that when the folder is opened winodws spends 10 seconds or so sorting the photos by the sort criteria i was wondering if there is any way to get windows to save the position of each photo so it doesn't spend that time sorting each time i open it! The "sort by date created" manages to show the photos as soon as the folder is opened without needing to spend the time sorting, the problem is this sort criteria doesn't quite have the photos in order. a few are randomly placed here and there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded (via Customer Install) my Vista laptop to 64-bit Windows 7 HP.
Under Vista, I was able to set Power Options so that the computer would go to sleep/hibernate when I close the lid. That works in Windows 7.
However, I was also able to set the Power Options so that the laptop would wake up and restore Windows when I opened the lid. So far, I have been unable to set that behavior in Windows 7.
In the start menu the games I play don't go higher up the list, in fact they keep getting pushed down until they aren't even in the menu at all by programs that I run once in a blue moon.
Games should be ordered by how frequently they are used, the same way that all other programs are, despite the fact that there is a games folder.
...and yes, I'm aware that games can be pinned to the start menu.
My startmenu just stays unchanged. I am on build 7068 64bit. On the previous builds the recently opened programs were listed in my startmenu with the jumplists.
The settings are right.

Screenshot below:[URL]But it never used to do that. And some programs like Firefox, do not, or MSN.When I launch a program from the taskbar, I want the icon to just get highlighted, not open another icon.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know, the easy solution would be to turn off desktop composition, but that would be like disabling visual styles in windows XP, going back to windows 98 look.for me the most important thing about the desktop composition is that it let me choose colors, if not it is fixed to the green/bluish windows 7 default colores and cant be changed unless desktop compositiion is enabled.but when desktop composition is enabled (i mean, by default, it is enabled) when i move the cursor over the taskbar, over the folders i get a very nice chumbanil view, yeah.. pretty cute. but, how do i know which one is the one i am looking for? of course, there are thumbnails, but come on, they are thumbnail of folders.check the images of what i sayhere i can't see the names, until i go one by onewithout desktop compositionbut here with windows 7 at minimum (desktop composition turned off, with just moving the cursor over the folders in taskbar i get the menu with the names and i go to the one i need, fast and without confusion.is there any way i can have the names with desktop composition ON? or at leas the names offer the thumbnails.

You know how you can left click on an icon and select from the menu OPEN WITH..., well by accident i clicked on a shortcut and selected it to be opened by Adobe reader, And now all my shortcuts in START menu are being opened by Abobe reader . Of course it doesnt work. I dont know how to reverse it... Please let me know how to make shortcuts to be opened by shortcut exe. This is my work computer and it is very annoying that none of the shortcuts work in START menu. I have to actually go to the C drive and find the folder with actual program im trying to use. I tried creating a new shortcut just to see if the new one will work and it would creat it with adobe reader icon. I click on it and it says that it cannot be read.
