View 6 Replies View RelatedThe following text is the culmination of information from a failed attempt to get qualified advice via the Yahoo Answers route. This is why the text is not in a strictly narrative form. I thought it best to provide the accumulated data as is:I recently purchased a replacement battery for my Acer laptop (Acer Aspire 7740-5029). The battery is not a "manufacturer" replacement battery, but is of third-party manufacture. When I turn on my laptop (windows 7 HP 64bit), the laptop does not recognize that the [new] battery is inserted, even though the new battery is inserted. The laptop does function with the replacement battery, but it does not report to Windows the remaining charge, or even that the battery is even there. So, this being the case, I have no idea of the charge/time remaining as I use the laptop and is of no use to me because of that fact.
Technical information: *The factory battery (OEM) is a Sanyo AS07B31 (lithium Ion, 4400mAh, 48Wh, 10.8V, 6 cell). *The replacement battery is a Famis FAM18674 (Lithium Ion, 5200mAh, 49Wh, 14.8V, 8 cell)
Additional Details:For anyone who advises that I seek out and download/update drivers for the new battery, I cannot "download the driver", since in the Device Manager does not even recognize the new battery as being there as an unknown device or otherwise. I cannot update or install a driver for device that Windows doesn't know is even there.
Additional Details:One other person has submitted that the original battery that came withthe laptop contained DRM electronics, so that one cannot replace the OEM battery with a non OEM model.
Additional Details The battery status/plugged-in status icon is on the taskbar and is not hidden. I have always had my taskbar set up to show all icons and to hide none of them. With the laptop not plugged into the AC and the new battery in place, the only icon that is showing is the "no battery detected" icon. Even though the laptop is drawing power from the battery, Windows does not "see" that there is a battery and therefore cannot provide battery usage/time remaining, etc.
I am using a Dell Studio 1557 model. I downloaded the Windows Live Essentials update yesterday and it prompted me to restart my laptop. I meant to click "Postpone" but I clicked "Restart" accidentally. This was in the middle of while I was running Firefox and running Winamp (as far as I can remember). So when the computer was back on I noticed I totally lost the internet connection. Even though the CAT5 cable is connected, the laptop does not recognize it at all. It simply says "Not Connected". And just today I realized that whenever the Ethernet cable is connected to the computer the computer periodically(every other second or so)makes a faint buzzing noise. This is something I had not noticed before. I replaced the cable with a new one and the same thing still happens.I think the modem is working fine since my roommate can access the internet. On the modem where the lights should be on for my connection, it is periodically blinking.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Gateway laptop MD-8718u will not recognize a new battery. It had been updated to Windows 7 and because of that update much of the
MD-8718u
software (like the camera) became out of date. I went into the BIOS setting and enabled the "recognize battery" command and upon turn-on it automatically becomes disabled. Gateway has a BIOS update for Windows 7. When I tried to install it, I received a "BIOS Unflashable" message or something like that. Being a integrated motherboard, the BIOS is probably soldered to it and difficult to replace. Can anyone tell me how to get my system to accept the new battery?
I am running an HP Compaq 8510w with Windows 7 Enteprise. When I first got the laptop the USB ports didn't recognise devices when they were plugged in, and the laptop would just hang when shutting down (on the Windows Shutting Down screen), so I decided to reinstall the OS as there was a lot of unnecessary applications installed.
I've been using the laptop since the rebuild and all has been good, until the past week or so when the same two problems have materialised again - when I attach a PSP, or a printer via USB, they are not recognised. And when I shut the laptop down, it hangs on the Shutting Down screen.
What checks can I run to see what the cause of this might be? I've not really installed a load of software on here, and I can't think of anything specific that I may have done that would cause this...
I have had a dual monitor setup with my laptop(Inspiron 1545 with GM45 Intel Card) extending to a regular LCD screen. It worked for two months and until recently has stopped working.I have uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, reinstalled the newest drivers, changed the cables(power supply and VGA), system restored back a month to when it was working, and changed the power outlet. This originally worked flawlessly and now the laptop is not recognizing any device I attach via the VGA output. I have plugged the laptop into another monitor with no avail as well. I find it hard to believe that this would stop working one day with no notice or any problems. I have also tried attaching a projector that had worked for over a year with the laptop and have gotten nothing.
I receive a black screen as if to say this something being outputted, but nothing is displayed. Both windows screen resolution and the intel GUI both do not recognize another device. [code]
I am a MAC user but for a project I have to upload something on a PC...the external hard drive is recognized by the computer but I cant see the files on it...it is fine when I hook it up to the Mac..

But as soon as Windows starts, the picture will only be displayed on the laptop, 'Starting Windows' being the last picture shown on both displays. After some investigation it seems that windows could not detect the external display successfully. In the 'Screen Resolution' window the external display is shown as 'Display the device on: VGA'. It is impossible to view the properties of the external display, as the option is disabled, and the display is called 'Default Monitor'.I tried updating the AMD Radeon Catalyst drivers, but this did not help. Tried to install the external display drivers, but these installed as the mobile device display drivers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit from a DVD with no problems. Once Windows 7 booted, Device Manager saw the drive and the proper model number. Says it was working properly. I could even flash the firmware. What I can't do, is eject the tray or see the disc. I can't eject manually or via Windows 7. And Windows 7 doesn't see the Windows 7 Ultimate DVD stuck inside.
I flashed the firmware w/ Vista 64-bit firmware, Vista 64-bit from the previous version, XP, Vista 32-bit...didn't matter.
So I bought a brand new Sony drive people on Newegg had zero problems with in Windows 7. Just installed it and I have the same problem!!!!
Both drives are SATA. I have 2 SATA HDDs as well. The order shouldn't matter with SATA right? Still I changed the DVD drive to be first in the chain, rather than 2nd, but that didn't help either.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe drive will recognize a recorded disc and display and pla ythe contents. If I put in a blank disc, it will pop up the "What do you want to do" window and will start the process by allowing you to choose as USB or Data disc and will allow you to name the disc. The DVD window opens but you can not Drag and drop. Highlighting the files and clicking burn, copy and paste or send to options do not work either. The computer will just ding like it received an incorrect command. I do have a CD/DVD burning software program installed and it works to burn discs. I had not used it before today. This came installed on the system. I have not installed, deleted, downloaded or made any changes to my system. One day the disc burning function in Windows 7 worked and the next day it didn't. I ran the troubleshooter for burning discs and it said everything was fully functional. I prefer the Windows 7 option to running a separate program. I have rebooted and I also tried a rollback to a previous date. Nothing has worked.
The computer is HP and is about 1 yr old. It came with Windows 7 home premium. This is not an upgrade from a different operating system. I am very technical, but this has me stumped.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHas anyone been able to get the VirtualXP environment to see a physical DVD burner as a burner, rather than just a DVD drive?
I've configured the setting to use my physical F: drive which is a LG DVD burner. However any software I have loaded into VirtualXP does not recognize this drive as a burner.
I can put a DVD in the physical drive and access it via the virtual environment. That part works just fine. But no burning capability.
I guess this would be moot if I could get Nero to install on Windows 7/64.
