I had a HD in my old one that's only 4 months old..so I put it in my new computer, formatted it, named it, (I'm only using it for photo/vid storage) now when I reboot windows7 it tries to boot from that disk...so I have to go in BIOS and switch things..(yes I switch and SAVE) but it still does this every-time..What have I done wrong? Is this a Windows7 Disk Management problem? BOIS problem? or me? I have my normal disc set as..Disc0..Boot,page,crash, primary...New one as Disc1, primary.
I have Windows 7. Using win 7 home edition 64 bit. Ran and installed updates yesterday. Now I have minutes long waits for any program or action. When I looked to reverse the update, "no updates are installed on this computer", is displayed in the installed updates window. Also, none of my restore points are seen. This is a first. I have tried reboots, and McAfee scan. What's next?

1) Why does having many installed applications cause a computer (PC) to run more slowly? 2) Does this also happen if the programs are installed as portable? 3) Do portable programs run equally as efficient as installed programs?
We have a branch where we have a server (Server 2003) and four workstations (Windows XP Professional) all part of an internal domain we'll just call "ours.internal" so that it has a name. All 5 computers print to two network printers, one monochrome, one color. All of this works just fine. There are no connectivity or authentication issues whatsoever. The four workstations are public access computers. To control print costs we have paused the printers on each workstation and Group Policy prevents the public users from accessing the "Printers and Faxes" folder to resume them.In order for the public's print jobs to actually be printed, the public user pays the staff on site and the staff person connects to the "Printers and Faxes" folder on the particular workstation, from the server, and resumes printing to print out the job, then pauses the printer again when the job is done. This method works for a lot of folks who's budget simply doesn't include funding for a better solution and it has worked flawlessly for us since implemented.Introduced a Windows 7 Professional workstation into mix. It too is a member of the domain. It too has policies applied and paused printers, so public can't just dump unwanted print jobs to the printers. I even have roaming profiles working so I can standardize the desktop and change it on a whim if I like. However:I can't see the folder that contains the printers over the network.
I have a Windows 7 machine that stops recognizing the installed printers after printing a couple of files. If you reboot the machine, it will recognize the installed printers, but then stops seeing them after trying to print again.
I may have made a boo boo. I bought a used computer today without an HDD or an OS. I had an old XP computer that had two 1TB drives. I installed a legitimate upgrade of Windows 7 on the C: drive over XP and put it in the new computer. Now, it won't start, and startup repair does nothing. I don't have the XP disk since I bought the computer 7 years ago, and it disappeared since.
I have a problem, I need to temporarly get a Sata III installed in a AMD Athlon 64+ 4000+, when it is installed the computer doesn't boot when it's not installed (attached to the motherboard SATA port) the computer boots fine, my guess is that the motherboard can't handle these types of SSD, right or wrong ?
A friend of mine gave me his computer to perform a quick reformat intoIt had two hard drives, and asked me to please reformat all of them. However One of the hard drives was not being detected with windows, so I went to disk manager, and formatted/shut it off.Now whenever I try to boot back into windows I get the message Grub Rescue, and am unable to boot into windows.I do not have a linux CD, and I only have a windows 7 professional installation disk which is not working since I get the message ''Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer''Status 0xc00000e9If I try to boot windows from an USB flash, it does not get recognized and it displays Grub rescue again

New unit is win 7, old one was xp, sp2. anything i can do to use my old programs? can i copy the drive onto the win 7 hd?
Is there a utility for me to copy installed 32-bit programs form my new 64-bit Windows 7 computer to my rebuilt 32-bit XP computer, preferably with a LAN cable, and run it on the XP computer?
On a brand new, freshly installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64. I get the following error when resuming from Hibernate: "Your computer can't come out of hibernation. Status 0xc000009a". No other info, no reference to any file such as hyberfil.sys. I have tried to "powercfg -h on/off", reboot defrag and reactivate hibernation, however the problem is still there.....what can I try?
I tried to install Internet Explorer 9 for testing a website. It prompted me to restart after the install, so I did. It never started back up. Now my computer will not boot into windows except in safe mode and system restore doesn't facilitate at all.

i tried to download the movie make windows essential from ms website, after the installation, i have noticed that my computer now start to lag (that's right, the whole os is lagging, not in game, or when doing particular things, just lag whenever) and there's a buzzing sound accompany with it if i am playing a Internet video. i was monitoring my task manager and i notice that every lag the cpu usage would get spike up by a bit. the reason why i suspect it is a virus is because when i restart my computer, there's an option that tells me to force restart or close the following programs, but there were no program on the list, just the two options "force restart" and "cancel" what is even more weird is that it doesn't seem to act up anymore after i stopped the avira virus scan, but my computer were being slowed after restart.
i had installed windows 7 in my laptop, but accidentally i installed it in D-drive,now both C & D drives are showing program files, program files x86,windows folders,my D drive is full
I have an Acer Aspire 5745 and it has Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. I have Intel HD Graphics version 8.15.10.2104. I decided to upload it so I searched my laptop on Acer's site but they offer drivers for 64bit only so I downloaded drivers for another Acer model laptop (it uses the same drivers as my model does). I tried to install it but it says "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer".So I decided to update my driver through device manager and I asked it to update from the folder where I had extracted the driver downloaded from Acer's site.
I am trying to install Windows 7 on a new computer and i keep getting this error message. "windows cannot be installed to this disk. this computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."I am also trying to run RAID 5 on this system, i have x4 1.5T HD.
Every now and then my WiFi stops working, and if I go to dev mgr, the General tab tells me that "No drivers are installed for this device" for device status. On the other tabs, however, I have all the details on the installed driver, and if I ask Windows to update the driver, it tells me that the best driver is already installed. The problem is solved by rebooting, but I find that annoying. I'd like to figure out WHY it does that. I've saved earlier versions of that particular driver from over the last three years, and the problem occurs with all of the drivers. This is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit system. The driver is an Intel driver; the one installed at this moment (it just happened again, and I have not rebooted, since I had a powerline enet outlet handy), and the version of the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN is 14.3.1. I have other versions of that driver saved, from 13.2.1.5 to 15.1.1_Ds64. I had reverted to the 14.3.1 because the more recent versions seemed to be worse about the driver disabling itself or whatever it is doing.Coincidentally with this, the event viewer shows that mmc.exe was terminated because it was hanging. I had just run sfc yesterday, and there are no corrupt files that Windows cannot fix, and there weren't even any corrupt files that it DID fix.
I accidentally installed the 32-bit disk instead of the 64-bit disk on my new computer build. How do I remove the 32-bit version and install the 64-bit?
I have Dell lappy and my CD rom was not working since couple years. I need to reinstall my OS as my CD-ROM is not working. Can you please give an idea how to get installed OS with out CD- ROM or even partitioned.
I have a pretty old Compaq Pressario that was running 2 512 MB sticks so I added 2 1 GB sticks today but it still shows it only utilizing 1 MB. I put the new sticks in the original slots and moved the old ones over so it is not an issue of installationI ran CPU-Z and all four sticks show up in the SPD tab but the 2 new ones only have values in the timings table under JEDEC #1, the 2 old ones have JEDEC #1, 2, and 3.
